Power Play by Toni Aleo

Power Play by Toni Aleo is AVAILABLE NOW!
Universal -- getbook.at/PowerPlayTA

Posey Adler is coming home. After a devastating journey for what she mistakenly thought was true love, she is saying to hell with men and love forever. As the Nashville Assassins’s new assistant coach for special teams, Posey is ready to focus on her job and have the attention on her for a change.

She’s been haunted by her place in her sister’s shadow, but this is her chance to shine and force her family to take notice. But in order to make a name for herself, she’s going to have to go toe-to-toe with her team’s leading power play scorer. Boon Hoenes lives for special teams.

The power play is his favorite thing about the game. He loves having that advantage over his opponent. And most of the time, it’s his quick thinking that sends the puck to the back of the goal when he’s on the ice.

Off the ice, however, no amount of quick thinking prepared his heart for being dumped by his college sweetheart.

Boon has sworn off women, but when Posey Adler comes onto his ice—and kicks him off his beloved power play—he decides she’s one woman he doesn’t want to swear off. They’ve both been hurt, but instead of going in for the penalty kill, Boon is ready to convince Posey their hearts are the secret to how they’ll win. How they’ll score the ultimate goal. A forever kind of love.

About the Author:
My name is Toni Aleo and I’m a total dork.

I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.

I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!

When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.

I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably Belle.

… and did I mention I love hockey?

So I am a newer reader to Toni Aleo books, meaning I love the generation Assassin stories but I did not read the original series at all. This is book 2 or 3 in the series and I have read all of them though we haven't seen Posey that much before and Boon is a brand new character. So this book can stand alone. However this story features ALOT of Shelli and Aidan so I definitely recommend you read their story first.

Posey is 21 years old, just graduated college and she gets a job working for her mother who owns the Assassins Hockey Team as a play coach. Meaning she teaches the players plays and her attention is on the special team that Boon is on.

Posey is living at home and is pretty broke because she went after this guy who she had a crush on and it did not go well. Boon just got his heart broken by his ex Julia who cheated on him while they were engaged and is now engaged to the guy she cheated with.

The two meet and instalust is born but Posey thinks Boon would never be interested in her because she is the ugly/thick Adler sister (Shelli's her sister) . Meanwhile Boon thinks she is super hot but he comes from nothing and so he thinks she wouldn't date him. But he likes her a lot and so he cannot resist trying and trying and trying....

This story was absolutely awesome. At first I was hesitant because Boon comes off as a jerk but when he falls for Posey, he is all in and I fell hard for him as Posey does. He is the best part of this book as he is very honest throughout the story about what he wants and he wants Posey more than anything in this world.

Posey has a tough time believing how awesome Boon is and how he truly sees her. These two together are a really beautiful couple and this story made me laugh, cry and it has a all the feels.

This series is just such a different on than I have ever read before and its been a great challenge for this author. I am a huge fan of her writing and characters and I loved in this story we see some characters from a really old series of hers and its a small Cameo appearance but it added to this story and I loved that.

This is a story about three best friends who also have three other bestfriends and their wives. But the primary story features these three friends. Mara was an orphan and in foster care when she met her best friend Amelia in college. Then Mara got pregnant and the father took off and so Mara and Amelia are very close. Amelia  grew up in a small town with wonderful parents and close friendships so after college she goes back home and invites Mara to visit hoping she will eventually move there.

One of the friends Amelia grew up with was Seth and they are bestfriends and almost have a brother/sister relationship. Seth meets Mara and he falls hard but she has a child and he is not sure about an instant family and so he texts her to get to know her and doesn't show her he is interested as she is not really local anyways.

But while they text Seth falls hard and so he decides he wants to try and he needs to convince her to move to town and that's how Seth and Mara start a relationship. I am leaving many things out to not spoil the story. Its a really heart felt story and its told absolutely beautifully and these three characters form an amazing connection with each other. Expect some tears and to fall in love with Seth, Mara and Amelia. A very unique story that works on all levels. It is full of romance, love and friendship and I loved every second of it.

Syler McKnight by Cora Brent

Blurb

Maybe there’s one of us in every family.
The guy who scorns all the rules.
The guy who shuns expectations.
The guy most commonly known as the ultimate villain in a cultish self help movement.
On the other hand, perhaps we’re not as common as I thought.
But so what if I’m never anyone’s hero?
At least I’m a good brother. That is the one thing I manage to get right.  So when my big sister is abandoned by her prick of a husband, leaving her and her four kids alone a week before Christmas, I don’t hesitate to head home.
To my surprise, I’m not the only one who shows up.
Katrina has always been my sister’s best friend.  She’s headstrong and hot. She’s neurotic and sexy.  She belts out old power ballads with horrible, tuneless abandon and her hair always smells like vanilla cookie batter.
We have a long history of being at odds and she’s never appreciated my natural talent for getting under her skin.
And then there was the time when we accidentally got naked together…
There might have been some post-wedding horniness involved.
Combined with antique furniture abuse.
Along with a creative application of lemon buttercream.
It’s kind of a forbidden topic.
Now, nearly a decade later, it’s possible I’m still using that memory to get off once or twice or twelve times a month.
Katrina never knew that back in the day she was the one girl who really got to me.
In the spirit of the holidays I’ve decided it’s time to settle the score.
She already thinks I’m not one of the good guys.
She also realizes I’ve got something she wants for Christmas.
All she has to do is swallow her high maintenance pride and ask nicely.
I can guarantee she’ll get more than she ever bargained for...

*SYLER MCKNIGHT is a complete stand alone with:
·       Small town quirkiness
·       Enemies to Lovers (with majorly hot hate sex)
·       A sarcastic flannel-shirt-wearing anti-hero

This book was absolutely awesome. It is a stand alone and I am sorta sad about that because I fell hard for every character and I want to visit again.

This is a holiday romance in a small town in New York State. Its a snowy and White Christmas and mom of 4 Gemma has been abandoned by her husband of ten years for the ex school principal who he had an affair with.

She calls her favorite younger brother and bestie and they both come home to help her out in this bad time for her. The bestie is a Katerina and the brother is Sylar and they have a very adversial relationship.

But they also secretly had a one night stand on the night of Gemmas wedding and it did not end well and since them they fight and verbally spar to fight their lust for each other. So the fun begins when they both arrive at Gemmas and help her face her future while also facing each other and their past as well.

This was a sweet, HOT, and fun story about finding love and about being there for your friends and family, It is the perfect holiday story and one I know I will re-read again.

Blurb:

I was only trying to help a friend. I swear. I was legit asking for a friend who was finally ready to date again.

I knew what she wanted in a man -- smart, funny, ambitious, well-read (no, the sports section doesn't count), and plays a wicked game of badminton.

So I did what any good friend would do. Posted it for her. It seemed like a good idea at the time — I’d weed through the candidates, and bring her my top picks.

But then he responded.

Is it wrong to date the guy I screened for my bestie? Not asking for a friend.

Excerpt:

“No. I was just getting the lowdown on office allergies.” He moves closer, leaning against the bar, looking like a tall drink of man. I break out my mental yardstick. Yup, I’m betting he’s over six feet. I’m going with six foot one. Which might even push him to a fifteen on the goes-to-ten babe-o-meter.
“So you’re on drinks detail,” I say, trying to sound all cool and casual, like I’m not busy sizing him up.

Not consumed with checking out his arms. Not occupied admiring his blue eyes. Not tied up enjoying his smile.

He points his thumb at his sternum. “New guy. That means I fetch all the drinks and buy them too. And you? What put you on errand duty?”

“I made my friend snort her drink out her nose.”

He looks impressed. “You officially have the best reason for being on drink detail.”
I preen, enjoying his praise. “Why, thank you. I was hoping to win that contest.”

“What was the snort-inducing remark, may I ask?”

Flashing back, I recall the culprit—my “you need V-time” comment to Peyton—but that’s too personal to share. I give him another one. “I referred to her ex-fiancé by his proper name.”
Clark Kent gives me a curious look. “Is his proper name amusing?”

“Of course. It’s Richard Cranium,” I say, and I wait. Will he pass the test?

This is part of a new series but also features characters from a previous series. It stars Amy who if you remember is the sister of  Josh from Overnight Service and Quinn's sister from Special Delivery.

In this story we move into the publishing world where she meets her new coworker Linc. They both fall into insta-lust but Linc wants to avoid work entanglements and Amy feels her life is very busy and instead she needs to help her best friend find a guy.

So she enters the online dating world. Linc knows he needs to date away from work so he too enters the online dating world. And that's how Asking for Friend meets this guy she really likes. I LOVED that Linc actually figures it out and is pretty honest about that.

This is a romance at work story with a tiny bit of online dating. Both characters are great and I loved how honest they are about each other and with each other. I would have prob enjoyed a faster paced story but this story read a little slower than the stories in the other connected series. That said its a fun romance and I loved it.

The Boyfriend Blog by K.L. Grayson

TBB - BT banner.jpg

TheBoyfriendBlog_FrontCover.jpg
The Boyfriend Blog, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by USA Today bestselling author K.L. Grayson.

Boyfriend (n.)
  • A frequent or regular male companion with whom one has a romantic or sexual relationship.
  • A myth. A legend. Impossible to find.
According to her eighty-year-old neighbor, Lizzie Donovan is looking for Mr. Right in all the wrong places. Though it’s made great fodder for her blog, Lizzie is finally tired of swiping left and awful blind dates, and she’s ready to take Mrs. Skinner’s advice and find love the old-fashioned way. Goodbye dating app, hello grocery store, book store, dog park, and wherever else she might be able to meet a good man. And she really has nothing to lose. Not only will she be entertained along the way, but even if she ends up alone, she’ll always have her longtime best friend, Aiden, by her side.
Friend zone (n.)
  • A situation in which a friendship exists between two people, one of whom has an unreciprocated romantic or sexual interest in the other.

  • Location of Aiden Wallace.
According to his eighty-year-old neighbor, Aiden Wallace has been friend zoned. And that’s mostly his fault because instead of opening his eyes and seeing what was right in front of him, Aidan has spent the last several years enjoying the single life. But things have changed—he has changed—and now he needs his best friend, Lizzie, to stop shoving him into the friend zone so he can work at winning her heart. Until then, he’s stuck watching her string of dating disasters and wishing she’d believe him when he tells her he’s the one.

The Boyfriend Blog

August 29, 2015

Boyfriend wanted: Loyal and funny. Wait…I just described a dog. I should buy a dog.

For real, though, Loyal and funny, that’s easy enough, right? Wrong! Do you ever ask yourself why dating in today’s society is so hard? Or where all the good guys are? Or what happened to dating before sex and *gasp* chivalry? I wish I had the answers to those questions for you, but I don’t. Unfortunately, I’m scratching my head and wondering the same things you are, which is how I ended up here in the first place.

I never thought I’d be a blogger—especially one who writes about men and dating—and really, I’m not; I’m just a twenty-something girl who got her heart broken for the first time and, while drowning myself in a pint of cookie dough ice cream, thought to myself: Self, how many other girls out there are doing this exact thing? How many of us are loading up on carbs and sugar while mentally berating humans of the penis-wielding variety? I know I can’t be the only one. After proposing that same question to my sister, she suggested that I blog about it. So, whether you’re like me and are swallowing past the bitter first taste of a broken heart, or you’re on your tenth helping and somehow keep finding the courage to go back for more, this blog is for you. Let me start out by saying you are not alone.

Louder for the sobbing girl in the back: YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Sit down, buckle up, and let’s enjoy this crazy ride of bad dating apps and even worse dates together. P.S. Men suck. And not in a good way. XOXO, Liz

This was an awesome story, it was my first time reading this author and I loved the whole story. It is a friends to lover storyline with a plot twist of starring a set of twin sisters. Lizzie, our female lead writes a boyfriend blog where she tells her fan base they deserve better in a boyfriend. Its pretty much her big secret except for a bunch of senior citizens.

Aiden is her bestie and he does not know her big secret. These two are very close and he wants more with her and he tells her many many times. So what's the hold up? Well Lizzie won't give him a 2nd shot at her heart.

Aiden has no clue what the problem is and I am not spoiling that. This was a really fun story. Aiden is a great guy and he has a lot of work to do to get Lizzie to date him

I loved this story, if you are looking for a fun best friend romance with no angyst then you will love this story.

Sleeper by Kayley Loring

Blurb

SHANE MILLER SLEEP DIARY:

Went to bed at: Late.
How long it took to fall asleep: Forever. I have insomnia. Duh.
Number of caffeinated beverages you had consumed: Zero. Thanks for advising me to quit!

My stress level is off the charts.
I can’t sleep right on a normal day, and lately my days are filled with the best kind of chaos.
My ex-wife and husband number two are filming in Poland for three months,
so I’m turning down movie parts to focus on the most important role of my life—
impossibly charming and somewhat capable young single dad.
My son won’t stop asking questions.
My daughter won’t brush her teeth unless I sing her showtunes.
Our regular nanny quit.
The only person I could trust to hire as a temp nanny is my best friend’s sister.

If Mary Poppins and Bill Murray had a baby it would be Willa.
Fresh out of grad school and beautifully weird.
She hates my movies, and my kids adore her.
I couldn’t sleep last night because she wasn’t here.
Turns out I can’t sleep unless she’s in my house now.
Turns out she’s what’s been missing from my life all along.
If my friend had any idea what I want to do to his gorgeous troublemaker of a sister,
he would smother me with a pillow.

The chances of us succeeding as a couple are about as good as that little indie movie
that I made being a huge hit.
But it’s a chance I’m going to take.

Author Bio

Before writing steamy romantic comedy novels, Kayley Loring got a BFA in creative writing from a Canadian university and had a fifteen-year career as a screenwriter in Los Angeles (under a different name). She mostly wrote PG-13 family comedies that studios would pay her lots of money for and then never make into movies. In 2017 she decided to move to the Pacific Northwest and write about all the fun stuff that she wasn't allowed to write about in those PG-13 scripts. Now she’s breathing cleaner air and writing dirtier words. It’s an adjustment she’s happily getting used to.

I have never read anything by this author before and I highly enjoyed this romance. It is a standalone and is an actor/Hollywood leading guy romance with his besties little sister and nanny/boss romance.

The star of this story is Shane, a single dad of twins who he loves but who drive him crazy. He is low on sleep and his ex who he gets along with is off in Europe on location so he needs a nanny asap.

Enter his best friend whose sister is visiting and who was a nanny in Europe. Now she is in the United States and wants to launch her perfume company and needs a place to work on her scents and so her brother fixes these two up, with a job.

Willa met Shane when she was 12 years old and had a HUGE crush on him but in the years between he has married and had babies and also divorced. So when they start spending time together its Willa's dream come true.

This was a very fun story. Technically it takes place in Malibu/Hollywood but we don't really see that much of the typical scene. This is much more of a nanny/boss/single dad romance and its done really ell and I loved it.

I have to tell you I LOVE Kristen Proby. She is definitely a gifted author and some of her stories I love more than others and this one was a huge hit. I has a lot of heart, romance and Christmas and is prob one of my favorite books she has ever written.

It is part of the Seattle series but is sorta loosely connected. The female lead in this story is Noel Thompson and Noel is the sister of Joy Jace's wife in Love With Me. We do get to see previous couples from this series as they casually know the male lead, Reed as he has done business with them. It is always fun seeing them in stories.

In this story Reed is a very single bachelor. He lives in a Penthouse and lives the single life and he LOVES his life. Until one day a bundle of joy is dumped on him. He now has a 4 year old daughter, Piper and he falls in love at first sight with Piper.

He changes his life pretty much overnight and he buys a house but its Christmas and Piper is missing her mom and so he hires Noel to give it a festive spirit. And Noel is such a fun character. She is feisty and flirty and she is very excited about this job and she has a lot of fun redecorating for Reed and Piper.

Reed meets her and he sees something in her and so he tries to get her to see him as more than a client. And I am not spoiling anymore of this wonderful story. This is one of those stories you will read over and over again because as I said it will make you smile, laugh and give you a lot of joy.
