Decidedly with Luck by Stina Lindenblatt

ABOUT THE BOOK

Masquerade ball rule #1: what happens at the ball doesn’t always stay at the ball.

Oops.

A chance encounter with a masked stranger at a charity ball led to an incredible kiss and a night of hot sex. The kiss was my goal for that night, a baby step forward after my husband’s death a year ago. The hot sex? Not so much.

You know what else hadn’t been my goal?

To be knocked up by a man whose identity is a mystery to me.

So now I’m preparing for my impending motherhood and planning a fundraiser to provide books for foster kids.

The latter is where hot hockey player Logan Mathews comes in...

****
The last time I saw Kiera Ashdown was the night of the Jingle Balls masquerade ball. She’d wanted her first time with a man after her husband’s death to be with a stranger.

After my NHL team trades me to San Francisco, where my daughter and ex-wife live, I’m determined to be a better father and not repeat past mistakes. My hockey career and my daughter come first.

The last thing I expect to discover is that Kiera is my seven-year-old daughter’s teacher. The last thing I expect to learn is that she’s pregnant with my dead best friend’s child.

And the last thing I want to admit is that I was the one who made love to Kiera—several times—the night of the ball.

Because if she ever found out that I’d lied to her, I could lose her friendship. I could lose so much more...

Decidedly with Luck is a standalone romance. All the books in the series can be read in any order.

This was a wonderful addition to this series. It stars teacher Keira who lost her husband about 15 months before  and now finds herself pregnant by a guy she had a one night stand with at a masquerade ball in the city of Chicago. She lives in San Franscisco.

When she turns up pregnant, she feels awful to say it was a one night stand and she doesn't even know the guy, so she claims it is her now deceased husband. What happens is one big farce after another and I absolutely loved it as Keira's lie gets bigger and bigger and more complicated as parents get involved and friends. It was a laugh riot and I laughed a long with the story as Keira creates a jumbled mess.

Logan and Keira was once best friends until she met her husband and then he and her husband became close friends. Now the husband is dead and she is pregnant and so he tries to be a good friend to her. While at the same time he has a big secret that he needs to share with Keira.

Now he has been traded and is living in the same town with Keira and Logan is a single dad and divorced from his ex. I kinda hated the ex. I felt she was a bit too much in his business and telling him how he should treat Keira. I did love how great Logan is with his daughter and his interactions with Keira when discovers that she is his daughters teacher.

This was a really fun story with lots of humor and lots of great characters with lots of secrets that come out in the story.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Life isn’t all mai tais, coconut cupcakes and the big “O,” but it should be.

I met Wes on a beach in Hawaii. Tall, tan, unruly blond hair and don’t even get me started on that gritty southern accent.

To the locals, he was Wes, “The manta ray whisperer.” To me, he was an infuriating, too young for me surfer dude.

But that didn’t stop me from falling into bed with him.

Being with Wes was thrilling, but he’s all wrong for me. All wrong for my life. After our week was over, I snuck out of his beach house without a goodbye. I was never going to see him again, right?

How wrong I was when I walked into Cardwell Bourbon a few months later to find
Weston Cardwell and those smoldering green eyes staring at me from across a conference table.

Working together will be a challenge. His family is counting on me to save their bourbon empire.

Wes and I have nothing in common except for our hot for each other chemistry—it’s hotter than the copper lining in a bourbon barrel.

But that’s the thing about copper, it’s an effective heat conductor—maybe too effective.

This is book 3 in the series and while I have never read the other books, I fell in love with this story and all the characters and I plan to read the first two books in the series as well.

This story stars Minka (I did not love her name) who is a 36 year old wealthy woman who charters a private yacht in Hawaii and meets 29 year old, Wes, a surfer and the guy who saves Minka while on the yacht. They end having a very hot and sexy fling while she is visiting Hawaii.

They both really fall hard for each other but feel it will never work until they run into each other again. And I am not spoiling how and why that happens.

Being as I have not read the other books in the series, I was never lost but I want to read them because they sound like awesome stories and I adored how the author told this story. In this story we watch Wes grow up and become the man he was always supposed to be and we get to know his awesome family and where he came from and his legacy. Minka, is all grown up with a daughter  and in this story we watch as she forms a connections and grows as she gets to know Wes and his family. I loved how she had some really tough decisions on what her future should be for herself and her daughter.

This was a wonderfully romantic and fun story with awesome characters and I look forward to checking out the first two books in the series as well. If you love a second chance at romance with deep southern roots and a close family, you will adore this story.

Unraveled by Alexia Chase - An Everyday Heroes World Novel

ABOUT THE BOOK

Alexia Chase’s Unraveled is a fast-paced, emotionally charged, sexy, contemporary romance written in K. Bromberg’s Everyday Heroes Worlds project.

Can a man who’s been burned find love with a woman who’s full of sunshine and happily ever afters?

Kameron Willoughby

His mom walked out the door when he was twelve and never looked back. That was Kameron’s first taste of a woman letting him down, but certainly not the last.
Over the years, he’s caught his high school girlfriend with his best friend. And his last girlfriend used him to humiliate another woman. To say he’s bitter and looking to lick his wounds is an understatement.
When his cousin offers him a place to stay in Sunnyville, he jumps at the chance. Little did he know, he’d meet Little Miss Sunshine herself.

Layla Malone

She’s looking for Mr. Right, and he has some big shoes to fill. The men in her family have loyal hearts and a helping spirit. The biggest complaint people have about her is that she’s always rushing off to rescue someone. Why’s that such a bad thing?
The first time she meets Kameron, she’s wrangling ducklings when one accidently falls into a rainwater drain.

Kameron couldn’t be farther from what she’s looking for. He’s grumpy, doesn’t like animals, and thinks she’s a do-gooder. Every time they meet, she’s jumping headfirst into helping someone, and he’s lecturing her on taking unnecessary risks.
What happens when two people, who have nothing in common, keep getting thrown together?

One thing that’s soon apparent – they have an undeniable scorching chemistry that has them both unraveling.

Will they stay enemies? Do they have more in common than they think?

Can Layla show Kameron that there’s light after the darkness? Or will Kameron destroy Layla’s belief that life is sunshine and rainbows?

This story is filled with breaking preconceived notions, resolving miscommunications, learning to appreciate your past, and healing old wounds.

There’s also some duck wrangling, cat rescuing, sexy firefighting, and an eighty-year-old man’s rushed delivery to a nursing home before his erectile dysfunction medication wears off.

Are you ready to enjoy the next Everyday Hero? Kameron’s one Grumpalicious fireman.

EXCERPT

Layla
Between Gertrude and I, we manage to corral three of the baby ducks into the park as several customers file out of the cafรฉ to cheer me on.
I lean down and swoosh my arms in the air as another puffball waddles toward the yellow center line. “Oh, no, you don’t.”
At my exaggerated movements, the duckling shots into the grass like a fox is hot on his tail feathers. “Good job, little one.”
By now, cars on both sides of the road have come to a complete stop. Mayor Winston steps out of his Cadillac. He leans against the door with his arm resting over the top edge. “Beautiful day, isn’t it?”
I swipe a strand of hair out of my eyes, but it continues to swirl. “Yes, it is.”
He chuckles as Gertrude darts to the side of the road and frantically quacks at a duckling that has wandered down the cement gutter. “She sure has her hands full with this batch. I don’t think they’re going to make it.”
“You and me both,” I sigh in utter frustration. There’s no time to make idle conversation. I jog to catch up with them before another unsuspecting driver ends up running over the little family.
Not that there’s anywhere for vehicles to go. The road to the south is blocked by the Mayor and a couple other drivers who’ve stopped to chat with him. And from the north, a large 4x4 is angled sideways to block traffic.
I squint. Who’s that? I don’t recognize the vehicle. Before I can catch a glimpse of the driver, the pipsqueak on the loose slips between the rails of the drain grate and disappears.
“Oh, shit.” My heart skips a beat. I run to the covered trench and stare inside with my co-parent quacking and fluttering her head from side to side. How am I going to get you out of there?
“What are you doing?” A deep voice booms from behind me.
My mouth drops, and I pivot on my heel. Holy hotness, Batman. The man, who has apparently emerged from a monster truck with dual tailpipes, strides across the pavement.
The muscles in his shoulders and neck ripple with each movement. When did superheroes start wearing low-hung jeans and wifebeaters? I swallow over the dry ball of lust in my throat and straighten my back. “Gertrude’s baby duckling fell into the drain.”
He yanks the sunglasses off his face, and the darkest pair of brown eyes stare at me in utter disbelief. Then, he glances in all directions. “And that warrants this mess?”
I jerk backward. “What mess?”
“This.” As he waves his hand in a circle in front of him, his eyes flash with contempt. “You’re holding up traffic. All the lookie-loos are out gawking. And the Mayor’s over there holding an impromptu press conference.”
I spin around to see Mayor Winston grinning from ear to ear as he uses his hands to talk. Tracie Atherton and Max Parson have their cellphones up as they appear to be recording his conversation. Welcome to Sunnyville, California.
“Then, move on.” I shrug. “It doesn’t have to be your business.”
The man purses his lips. “Yes, it does. We received a call at the fire department, and I’m the lucky one who got the assignment.”

Alexia Chase’s Unraveled is a fast-paced, emotionally charged, sexy, contemporary romance written in K. Bromberg’s Everyday Heroes Worlds project.

I have not read the Heroes series by Bromberg and I have never read a book by this author either so I did not know what to expect but I absolutely adored this story and loved every second of it. I fell in love with Chase's writing and her characters.

This was a really awesome small town romance with a hero, Kameron,  who is only in town temporarily and the girl that grew up in a small town of Sunnyville, Layla and adores everything about it.

We also meet and get to know some other characters that Chase has written in her own series and I loved meeting them so much that I started reading them as soon as I finished this book.

When these two meet it is not love or even lust, its grumpy Kameron and happy Layla and it takes a few times when they run into each other for the attraction and lust to form. But when it does oh wow! But Kam is only in town until his cousin who is lending him his place comes back to town and Layla is a permanent resident and adores everything about her small town.

If you adore grumpy characters, Kameron is awesome. And I loved how hard he eventually falls for Layla. Layla while she seems happy and uncomplicated. She is very complicated and I loved how cute she was and her banter with Kam. Inside she is lonely and wants to find love but she has her standards.

If you love small town romances with grumpy heroes and heroines that show them the light, this was a wonderfully written story with laughs, and more!

Built to Fall by Julia Wolf

ABOUT THE BOOK

“You’re perfect for this job, Claire. He won’t want to sleep with you. You’re not his...type.”

Dominic Cantrell has been famous almost as long as I’ve been alive, but he remains a dark, volatile mystery.

I know why I was hired to handle Dominic’s PR while he’s on tour. It’s not because of my experience—I have next to none. It’s because I’m safe. Plain, quiet, shy, with more-than-ample curves, I won’t distract him.

What I didn’t count on was Dominic distracting me instead. I shouldn’t be so drawn to him. He’s too old for me, too closed-off, and definitely too angry, but I’ve been a good girl for far too long.

Why can’t I be just a little bit bad, especially when my rock star fantasy is so willing to corrupt me?

Our fling has an expiration date at the end of the tour. No strings, no feelings, no heartbreak when it’s over.

I tell myself I won’t fall. But I don’t know if I’m built that way.

This was a very interesting rock star romance story. It was very different than any others I had read before and I found it fascinating. I give it high marks for its originality in a trope series where many of them are very similar.

This story stars Dominic, a HUGE rock star but he is an aging rock star and in his 40's. He is on the grumpy side and very much set in his ways. He enjoys concerts and traveling but not so much the people and so he needs a publicist to travel with him to help him get some alone time. However his current publicist is his ex wife and they usually end up having sex and he is no longer interested and so he tells her to find a substitute.

His ex is pretty nasty but professionally doing well and so she decides to send her mousy intern as she thinks Dom will have no interest in hr. And that is how, 26 year old Claire ends up on tour with her crush, Dominic. Claire is just out of a very bad relationship and  is a bit broken hearted. She is beyond excited to be on tour and ends up enjoying the rock star life.

But Dom ends up fascinated by Claire and well Claire is crushing on Dom hard and so things happen and are said and well surprises and secrets are exposed and thats just part of the fun and angsyt of this story. It is not my absolute favorite by this author but it gets high marks for originality and being a fascinating and can't put down romance with a bit of an age gap and a boss/employee relationship.

STRAYS by Cora Brent

ABOUT THE BOOK

A man like me isn’t cut out to be a dad.
And if this kid had another option I wouldn’t try to be one now.
But for once I’m going to step up.
I’ll right the worst of old wrongs.
I’ll pretend this last name of mine is something decent instead of a legacy of hard-core criminals.
I don’t know if I’ll ever be free of my sins.
I do know it wouldn't be wise to get close enough to find out.
Into this chaos walks Isabella Gentry.
She was warned to keep her distance from me.
I was the one who warned her.
She’s beautiful. She’s headstrong. She’s spoiled as hell.
And she’s my freaking roommate.
Half of me wants to turn her world upside down in the cruelest way imaginable.
The other half wants to worship the ground she walks on.
This can go one of two ways.
Either I’ll decide to be the worst version of myself.
Or I’ll surrender the past in order to build a future.
And maybe along the way I’ll prove something.
That the guy everyone loves to hate might be redeemable yet...

“What are you gonna do about it, Izzy? Throw your wine at me?”
She does. She throws her wine in my face. Or at least she tries to. The flick of her wrist comes up short when I rear back and the wine splashes on the floor, leaving her standing there with a stupid empty glass and a puzzled expression. That should have worked, her pretty eyes say. Why is this jackass not covered in my wine backwash?
There’s no effort required to pluck the glass out of her hand. I toss it in the sink, where it promptly shatters.
“Hey,” she complains. “That was Waterford crystal, you dick.”
I chuckle and close in, aware that I’m hard and getting harder. “That’s your whole problem, Isabella.”
Her eyes flash. Her lips pout. In another second she’ll be stamping her bare foot. “What the hell are you talking about?”
“This.” I run a hand low, over the shape of my cock. She can see the rigid outline through my shorts. I know she can. She sucks in a corner of her lower lip and jerks her head to force her eyes away.
“You’re disgusting.”
I chuckle. “You wish you thought so.”

This is an intereconnected book with the Gentry family but it also is connected to Long Lost as it is the story about the brother of the hero in that story, Rafe Hempstead. I have read the Gentry family but not Long Lost, but I will be reading it soon. I absolutely want to learn more about the Hempstead family.

This book stars Isabella or Izzy from the Gentry family, she is Deck's lone daughter who is now moving on to a town in Texas as she is going to get a Master's so she can be a speech therapist. She arrives in town thinking she has a place to stay but ends up losing her apartment and has to find a new place. That is how she ends up with Rafe as a roomie and his new son, Oliver.

Rafe, is a new dad and by new I mean one day old with a 5 year old son and a new job in Texas as he follows his brother, Jay and Caris to Texas. He hopes they will help him be a good dad and have a place for them to stay. Rafe is a very bad boy who is trying to be a good brother and father. And I have never read Long Lost, so I fell really hard for him.

Izzy falls hard for Oliver who she adores and soon after becoming roomies she is very attracted to Rafe but he wants to be a better guy than he has in the past so he tries very hard to resist Izzy.

This was a wonderful story and I loved every character in the story. I fell so hard for them that I cannot wait to read Long Lost and learn more about all these characters. This book includes the Gentry's but in a few scenes, they are not a huge part of this story.

I am absolutely loving this series and cannot wait to see the next book and who finds romance. In this story is Braden Prescott, the doctor who comes back to town and takes a new job and has to work with his sexy ex, who he left behind when he joined Doctors Without Borders years before.

Willow is Braden's ex and she gets no warning that he is coming back. I LOVED that she has not waited around and was dating someone else when he gets back. But I loved that Braden wants her back and I loved watching him try and win her heart for the second time.

This was a wonderfully sexy and romantic story with a couple of great characters who have to learn to forgive each other and move on to a future that they want. It was a really fun story and very light reading and I cannot wait to see who the next story is about.
