Out of the Ashes by RC Boldt

Phoenix /fēniks/: (in classical mythology) a unique bird inhabiting the Arabian Desert that burned itself on a funeral pyre before rising from the ashes with renewed youth to live through another cycle.

This isn’t mythology, it’s war, and Hendy is left in the hands of Hell’s cruelest gatekeepers.
His team is killed before his very eyes, and despite his efforts to save them, he’s captured and subjected to merciless torture—losing virtually every piece of his identity but his pulse.
After his rescue, he returns home from Afghanistan, saddled with facing the daunting task of healing his physical scars as well as the invisible ones—his emotional demons.
Dr. Presley Cole isn’t one to shy away from a challenge. Embarking on a new journey, she makes it her mission to prove to Hendy that his life isn’t over; that he’s worthy of love.
Because sometimes even a phoenix needs help to rise…

Addicted 2 Romance Review

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This story was really wonderful. It primarily is a military romance though technically Hendy is out of the military because of his injuries. The author did an amazing job in writing about a SEAL who comes back from the dead, and who has to make a huge recovery .

Hendy is related to the previous books in the series as he is best friends with Foster. In the last book he was missing and presumed dead. In this book he is found alive but his body has been destroyed both on the outside and inside. Enter Dr. Presley Cole.

Presley is a miracle worker. She takes over Hendy's care with more natural medicine and chiropractor care. For a lot of the book they are just friends as Presley is engaged. But once Presley dumps her fiancee, thats when things really heat up between her and Hendy.

Hendy is a mess on the inside but he falls for Presley very fast. He won't cheat or steal another guys woman. So there is no cheating in this story. However, once Presley is free he becomes her friend (they love Jeopardy) and eventually they become more.

But Hendy has a long way to go to accept his new face, body and life and I loved that the author did not make that an easy fix. This is a really sweet romance and Presley was a really strong and wonderful character.

This book is told in dual POV and was a really fun read while still being a serious read as we watch Hendy deal with his past and the future he wants.

About the Author

RC Boldt is the wife of Mr. Boldt, a retired Navy Chief, mother of Little Miss Boldt, and former teacher of many students. She currently lives on the southeastern coast of North Carolina, enjoys long walks on the beach, running, reading, people watching, and singing karaoke. If you're in the mood for some killer homemade mojitos, can't recall the lyrics to a particular 80's song, or just need to hang around a nonconformist who will do almost anything for a laugh, she's your girl.
