Cease Fire By Marie James

 ABOUT THE BOOK

Making something off-limits will always make that thing more appealing.

Jules Warren, my sister’s best friend, was no different.

She has been the leading lady in every fantasy I’ve had since I was a teenager.

There was no way I was turning her down when she invited me to her room.

Those fantasies? They had nothing on the real thing.

I was given the weekend to make my dreams come true.

The ramifications, however, will last a lifetime.

Keeping a secret is one thing.

Living with the lies is impossible.

Meet Marie James

Let's see...where to begin...

I'm inching up on the BIG 4-0. The gray hairs are doubling what seems like daily, and the wrinkles and laugh lines are more pronounced than ever.

I have an amazing husband (Married just over 15 years.)

We have two boys we're doing our best to raise as respectful gentleman.

I have a master's degree in criminal justice which I used to work as a juvenile probation office until deciding to write full-time in June of 2019. So that means there's usually always some criminal/law element to my novels.

If I'm not writing; I'm reading.

My favorite genres recently are bully/reverse harem and enemies to lovers. Maybe I'm reliving my traumatic teen years through the girls who actually end up with the boys. (Not that I would change my history since it's gotten me exactly where I need to be!)

I love coffee. I miss carbs. Music is LIFE. I try not to be too serious.

At the end of the last book, Controlled Burn, we see Brooks and Kit with Kit's sister and his longtime crush, Jules at the security office. They are there to tell Brooks, who is Kit's best friend that Jules is pregnant with his baby. It was a HUGE shocker and I could not wait to see how this would play out.

This story takes us back into the past so we get a dual POV and see what and how it happens and who ends up with Jules that weekend. Then we get to see past this big announcement and we get to know Jules, who is the slightly older woman (only 3 years older) that Kit has crushed on since he was a teenager.

Brooks and Kit were awesome in this story. They have the best bro romance and I liked how defensive of Kit's heart Brooks was thru the plot in this story. He always has Kit's back and I really fell in love with both Brooks and Kit in this story.

Jules is the unknown in this story. She is a brand new character and we only have known her thru Kit's eyes and he has rose colored glasses on. In this story they are ripped off his face and he starts to see who Jules really is.

Jules was a very complicated character and at times I understood why she is the way she was. Jules is alone in the world and her only real connection is with her best friend. She really has no one else since her mother died years before. So her biggest fears is that she will lose her best friend forever and the only family she has left. In addition she knows her best friend is marrying and it will change their relationship as well. She is a woman on edge and is desperate to hold onto the only family she has. And she does things that I did not like and choices she makes but at the center of that is her fear of losing the most important person in her life.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
