ABOUT THE BOOK

Boone Rivers uses his fame and fortune as a professional hockey player to his advantage, but not in the way most people would think. Volunteering as often as his busy schedule will allow, Boone meets one brave young boy who turns his world upside down.

As a first-line right winger for the Pittsburgh Titans, I thrive on the thrill of the game. I live for the smell of the ice, the cheer of the crowd and the way my heart pounds whenever I step into the arena. But once I’m out of my skates, my focus is on giving back to the city of Pittsburgh.

It’s funny how life puts people in your path. I meet Aiden while visiting the children’s hospital and I’m struck by the strength and resilience of this 12-year-old kid fighting for his life. As my visits continue, we bond over video games and hockey until one day Aiden’s older sister walks into his room and I realize there might be a bigger purpose here.

Lilly Hoffman has the weight of the world resting on her slight shoulders. Aiden’s illness isn’t getting better, she’s at risk of losing her job and their father is looking for the answers to his prayers at the bottom of a liquor bottle. I find myself wanting to lessen Lilly’s burden and what starts as a simple act of friendship turns into so much more. As we grow closer, I can’t help but fall for this fiercely protective and independent woman with a tender heart and bruised but not yet broken spirit.

As we face a future of never-ending uncertainty, I vow to be Lilly’s source of strength and comfort. Lilly and Aiden have reaffirmed to me the importance of giving and receiving love unconditionally, even in the darkest of times. And no matter what happens next, no one can take that from us.

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book has three main characters. Boone of course, who is a hockey player on the Pittsburgh Titans and who we have met in other books in the series. In this book he is very close to a boy named Aiden, who is extremely ill with Leukemia at the Children's Hospital. He visits him a lot and that how he meets his sister Lilly. This is Boone, Lilly and Aiden's story.

This was an absolutely awesome story and maybe one of the best ones in this series but be ready to shed a few tears and fall in love with Lilly, Boone and Aiden. It is not a light story, there are some laughs but the topics in this story are very serious, and they deal with Cancer and Addiction.

Lilly is much older (age 22) than her young brother, Aiden (age 12). She pretty much helped her father raise him and has been there for him day in and out while also working hard at their family deli. If there is a hero in this book, it is NOT Boone, it is Lilly. For one so young she was absolutely amazing. Honestly, I have no idea how she could be such a brave person with such an amazing heart, but the author created an amazing woman named Lilly to be the hero of this story.

Boone is just as wonderful in this book and what I loved about him so much, is his really beautiful heart. He has a connection to Cancer and when he meets Aiden, he opens his heart to this amazing kid and I loved how there he was for Aiden, even before he got to know Lilly.

He really changes things for the entire family. I also adored his family and I loved that they sort of bond and support Lilly as well because she does not have much of a support system when the book begins. As Boone gets to know her, he introduces her to people who will become part of her support system and as you read this story, you will see how important support is when dealing with the ups and downs of Cancer.

This story will make you smile, laugh, cheer and also has some very sad and poignant moments. IT will make you feel and break your heart a time or two, but it also is beautiful. It's about the power of life and love and family and putting one foot in front of the other and facing each day. It ends in a really beautiful way, and this just made me FEEL.
