This Much Is True - Marshall Family Series - By Adriana Locke (Luke and Laina)

When celebrity Laina Kelley bolted from her small hometown church on her wedding day, she ran to the first place that came to mind—to the home of the local farrier, a gorgeous playboy who just so happens to be her first love ... and biggest frenemy.

ABOUT THE BOOK

USA Today bestselling author Adriana Locke delivers a new “sweet and spicy!” standalone romance about a runaway bride who finds herself in the arms, and horse barn, of her deliciously handsome frenemy—who just so happens to be her first love.

This isn’t your average romance. It begins with me in a wedding dress, just not at an altar …

I never expected to be a runaway bride. I also never thought I’d end up on my ex’s doorstep to flee from said wedding. Now that I’m here, it’s easy to find the key in an old boot by the door and let myself inside. It’s not breaking and entering if I have a key, right?

It’s safe to say that Luke Marshall didn’t expect to find me on his couch in my wedding dress, my veil over my face in tears. He has no choice but to listen to my panic-induced plea for salvation. It’s only a matter of time before the tabloids get wind of my disappearing act, and my life is over.

Luke takes pity on me and says I can stay… on one condition.

I can’t sing for my supper—I have to earn it. I have to work in the barn alongside him, up to my elbows in horse manure. Oh—and because there’s only one bed, I get the couch.

This works … in theory. However, when sparks start flying, and the small-town farrier asks me to stay, I’ll have to decide between my life as a pop star or a second chance with my first love.

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the second book in the series and I really like it. In the first book Luke was dating someone named Alyssa and in this book he is now single. One aspect I loved about the book is how it and Laina is loosely connected to the authors other series.

Laina is a rock star and is engaged to a movie star with some toxic tendencies. When she does a runaway bride and goes to the only place she know she will be safe. She contacts her manager, Anjelica and she is an artist for Mason Music and deals a lot with Coy and Boone Mason who each have their own book in the author's Mason series. I addition when she does her runaway bride thing, she has bodyguard from Landry Security, which is part of the Landry Family series. I really adored catching the characters and the references as I was reading this book.

This is a second chance romance with a rock star and takes place in small town. This is described as frenemy romance and I am not sure it really qualifies. There is no hate or even anger on either side. Luke and Laina dated from 17 to 24. Now at age thirty she runs aways to his smalltown where she grew up. He was her first love and best friend until she moved with her father to Nashville. Luke and Laina didn't break up really, they just let love go, didn't fight for each other or to be with each other. But they did not hate each other. I guess you could say they were young and stupid and things got in their way.

Luke is also described as the town playboy. I am not sure I would describe he as one. In the first book he has a serious girlfriend, and, in this book, they have been broken up for six months or so. I am not sure that would describe him as a playboy. But he is the fun brother, I am not sure that makes him a playboy. He is fun, sweet, kind, a little bit cocky and is a total sweetheart.

This book really seemed to be about love, family and trust. Laina does not have a good family life. She wants so much to trust them but they use her. Luke has the best family. They support and love each other and their parents show their love everyday. But they are not rich monetarily but they are rich in family and love. Meanwhile Laina has a bunch of houses, travels around the world and lotsa money but she doesn't have love or family. This book really shows you which is more important.

It was an awesome story, and I loved the ending so much. I cannot wait to see which Marshall family member is next.
