Work in Progress (Love in Progress - Book 1) by Michelle Morgan

ABOUT THE BOOK

Publishing-house receptionist and aspiring writer Lindsey Deal spends her days dodging bullets: one insufferable boss, one sinister-looking spider, and, most daunting, a certain romance novel-in-progress that screams to be finished.

The first two are easy enough. The third requires…motivation.

Enter: Rian Harper. Mysterious. Cool. Sexy as sin. The rule-breaking, covered-in-tattoos musician may be just the motivation Lindsey needs to finish her manuscript—and test the limits of her comfort zone.

But he’s too old for her. Too afraid to open up. Too much her new boss.

Single dad, brooding artist, corrupter of women. What Rian Harper needs is a business partner, maybe a creative partner. Someone who can have his back. He doesn’t need her tempting him to fall in love. It could ruin them both—especially when the too-sweet, too-pure, too-young woman discovers his longest-held secret.

This is a new author and this appears to be her debut book. For a new author it was wonderfully written and has some really interesting characters. I really enjoyed reading this story and getting to know the characters.

We meet Rian and Lindsay in this story. Lindsay is a 24 year old receptionist in a publishing company and a would be author. She is sexually harassed by her current boss but  he is leaving and his son is taking over.

Rian is a 36 year old ex military, single dad (to a 14 year old teen girl)with tats and piercings who is taking his father's job when he transfers. Rian promotes L and tries also to resist her allure. They become close work associates and boss/employee and he really believes in L and her writing.

This was a slow burn story with romance in the workplace between an older guy and younger woman. It was well written and I enjoyed the romance between these two characters. At times I felt the book moved too slow but overall I really enjoyed the storyline and characters.

ABOUT THE BOOK

It's Cliffside Bay and beyond in this heartwarming enemies-to-lovers romantic adventure from USA Today bestselling author Tess Thompson.

Stone Hickman is the last of a dying breed. The former Marine believes in integrity, service to his country, a hard day's work, and taking care of his loved ones. When he meets the clever Pepper Griffin, their obvious attraction has him ready to count the stunning beauty among the people that he cares for. But Pepper doesn't share the instant connection. In fact, she wants nothing to do with him. And for honest, straightforward Stone, not knowing why only makes the rejection worse. Pepper Griffin is the epitome of scrappy.

For years she's struggled to make acting her career without any help at all from her famous father. While she's still accepting meager roles with little screen time, her best friend has steadily risen to the height of fame. To make matters worse, that very same friend is happily in love, newly engaged, and wants poor Pepper, whose love life is as sad and pathetic as her last film role, to serve as her maid-of-honor while Pepper's enemy, Stone Hickman, is sure to be the groom's best man. Though Pepper despises the best man, she loves the bride-to-be more. To keep the peace, Pepper willingly includes Stone in the wedding planning process.

When the unlikely pair find themselves stranded in a snowstorm while searching for the perfect venue, they'll have to work together to survive the chill even if that means thawing Pepper's heart.

This is part of the series, it is an offshoot of the original series but this is book 2 in this off shoot series featuring The Wolves.

If you are new to this series I highly recommend you start with the original series the book featuring Kyle and Violet (Kyle is Stones brother and their story really starts there.)

Then I would read the first book in The Wolves series about Rafael and Lisa. Lisa is Peppers best friend and in her book we really meet Pepper. Stone is also featured in there and we get to meet all the wolves and hear their back stories.

This series tries to stand alone but its more of a serial and all the characters are very close. Each book features a different couple but we still see and find out about the other couples from previous books. Kyle, Autumn and Stine are all siblings and they grew up in a very complicated environment and this book continues their storyline. The story does try to explain what previously happened but you might be a little lost as its very complicated.

Stone and Pepper met in the previous book but she found out he was a ex military guy and it made her hate him as she was attached by military guys when she was very young. He on the other hand fell into lust with her and he just wants one chance with her.

So this story starts with her hating him but also saving him and him just wanting her. Their two best friends are Rafael and Lisa who are getting married and they are tasked with planning the dream wedding and so that gets them to spend time together getting along.

As in these stories there are tons of surprises along the way and I loved every second of it. This story features Stone who I loved and Pepper who has to decide what she  really wants in life It was wonderfully written and I love this series so much.

About the Author:

Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she’s called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She’s never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she’d probably choose the west coast.
Kat’s a typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max). When she’s not writing, she’s either scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) – traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible. She hopes to retire there one day so she can spend her days writing books on the beach. Kat has been a working freelance writer for nearly 30 years. She sold her first article–a review of a rock concert–for $10 in 1985. Since then she’s been an entertainment journalist, waitress, bartender, legal assistant, food critic, magazine editor, substitute teacher, and sports writer.

She also spent some time working at A & M Records in Los Angeles. As you can guess from her series, the Las Vegas Sidewinders, Kat loves hockey. She is also a freelance hockey writer, covering her favorite team, the Florida Panthers, and any other teams that have an interesting story. The rest of the time, she writes novels: sexy, romantic fiction that she hopes makes you as happy as it makes her. There’s something enticing about hockey players and romance…

This was a wonderful older aged romance story. It is about the Sidewinders but more in the off season so not much hockey is featured in the story.

This is about Renee who we met in Nate's story, she is good friends/works with Chelsea who Nate ended up dating. Renee is a strong 39 year old woman with an 18 year old daughter and is a rich author. She married very young but he died when her daughter was 3. Since then she has had one night stands and a few romances but nothing serious. She really is happy with her single, childless life and her friendships.

Enter Jared, he has been a part of the Sidewinders as their coach because the former coach had a heart attack. He has been a part of the team for 10 days when he meets Renee and they end up having a one night stand.

But the two really like each other and so they become friends who also date. But R is going to Europe for the summer and guess who else is also. The book gets really fun in Europe and I am not spoiling what happens there. Life kinda gets complicated for these two and they have to weather some storms.

I really liked both characters and I even loved Zio and the daughter. But at times I felt the obstacles were too much for these two. I loved them a lot and really enjoyed seeing this series with older characters.

A side note R is 39 and Jared is 35 so while she is older than him, it was not by much and they both are in the same stage in their lives. I don't typically like older woman romances but in this case I really enjoyed it.

ABOUT THE BOOK

The day I saw Sylvie West standing next to the bride, something moved in me I was certain had died.
I’d known her since she was a pain-in-the-rear kid, but she was my best friend’s cousin, and off limits.

He also told me he’d strangle me if I ever laid a hand on her.

When she downed tequila like water at the reception, and then danced on the table, all bets were off.
She was my kind of woman, and forbidden or not, I was going to make her mine.

Only when morning broke, I woke up to a different Sylvie—one who didn’t remember a single thing about the passion-filled night we’d shared.

Now, I had to prove I was the one who was meant for her.

After she put up one obstacle after another, the time had come to pull every trick out of my hat.
And Sylvie had no idea I was one tricky bastard.

But the last thing I expected was for her to turn the tables and play the last trick on me.

Excerpt:

I was dabbing at my coffee stain when a knock sounded on the door. “Come on in, Grey.”
The door opened, and he walked in. “It’s not Grey.”
My head jerked up to see Evan standing there. “What are you doing here?”
“Sorry for the subterfuge, but I had to find a way to see you. You’re quite stubborn, you know.”
“So you lied?”
He shrugged. “With permission.”
I gawked at him. “What does that mean?”
“It means I spoke to Grey first. He said it was okay.”
“Oh, my God. You’re both conspiring against me.”
“Sweets, I only wanted to return something of yours and you gave me such a hard time of it, this was the only way I knew how.”
“What are you talking about?”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a thong. Then the bastard dangled it in front of me. “Recognize this?”
Shit. It was mine. I went to snatch it, but he pulled it out of my reach. “Oh, no. It won’t be that easy. In order to get it back, you have to go to dinner with me.”
“What? That’s blackmail.”
“Not really. What will I do to you if you don’t go?”
He really couldn’t do anything.
“See, you get my point. We can go anywhere you’d like, as long as it’s a sit down dinner where they have a great wine list.”
“And if I choose not to go?”
He smirked. “That’s easy. I get to keep this.”
Then the asshole put it up to his nose and inhaled. “Ahh, my favorite scent.”

This book was really awesome. It is part of a series but loosely so it easily can stand alone. It stars Evan and Sylvie. Evan is a billionaire and he is besties with Sylvie's cousin, Pearson. At Pearson's wedding he and Sylvia hook up but she can't remember a thing.

And so Evan chases her. And chases her and she tries to resist but he still chases her. It was seet and romantic and I absolutely loved how hard Evan works to get Sylvie to give him a shot.

This story was very romantic and very sweet and has characters you will love. There is some sadness too so make sure you have tissues handy as well. This author did an amazing job on telling this story and I loved every minute of it.

The Marriage Effect by Karla Sorensen

Logan Ward doesn’t want any more women in his life.
Being a football player and legal guardian to his four younger sisters means his playbook is full. However, one of them just landed in the hospital, which gives his brother the shot he needs to challenge Logan for custody.
Legal counsel says there’s only one thing Logan can do—find himself a wife.
Paige McKinney doesn’t always think things through.
Like walking away from her modeling career without a thought of what might come next. She really doesn’t think it through when she proclaims herself Logan’s fiancé at the hospital, simply because the sexy—albeit grumpy—football player forgot his cell phone at a party and security won’t let her pass. It’s not her fault it was overheard by the worst possible person.
A bargain is struck, and a fake marriage is the perfect solution. But the simple solution creates a whole new problem: they’re not as different as they seem. The reluctant groom has fire inside him, and his impetuous bride is about to light the match.

Well, let’s see ... I’m a wife and a mother. If the things that I write bring a smile to someone's face, then I've done my job. I am obsessed with Outlander (both the books and the show). I’m almost exclusively a romance reader, which means some people will never consider me a literary snob. If I could meet one historical figure, it would be Jane Austen. I received my Bachelors in Public Relations and worked in health care marketing before I had my babies. I hate Twitter. I do it, but I hate it. Also, if you want to get on my good side, bring me wine and I'll love you forever.

HOSTED BY:

This is book 3 in this series and it finishes the series. However there are more books coming in the Ward series and I cannot wait.

So who are the Wards? That would be Lucas' 4 sisters and he is the football player we have met in other books in the series and this is his romance with Paige who we met in the first book as she is Allie's bestie, the super model.

Lucas and Paige don't know each other well at the start of this story but when Lucas loses his cell phone and Paige comes to bring him the phone, well their lives get very intertwined. I loved Lucas' 4 sisters they are fun and a little nutty but very loveable.

Lucas has an evil brother, Nick who wants the 4 girls and so he and Paige come up with a plan to get hitched to stop Nick. Paige is looking for something and so she finds it with Lucas and his sisters.

This story was beautiful and wonderful and made me laugh and even tear up a little. It was a wonderful way for the series to end and to get glance into what the new series will be about.
