Mr. Casanova - Billionaire Bachelors #5 - by Lila Monroe

About the Book

Hot TV star Luke Rafferty is Hollywood’s newest bad boy… at least, according to the tabloids. He’s been steaming up the screens as Dr. Casanova for ten years, but thanks to his ex-wife, some tricky contract negotiations, and that incident with the stethoscope (don’t ask), he’s suddenly on an extended vacation - with his heartthrob career on the line.

Enter Stella Hartwick.

A Hamptons local, she’s trying to get her home renovation company off the ground; winning the job for Luke’s new beachfront retreat would be her big break. And when she just happens to overhear his agent suggesting a fake relationship to give his reputation a swoon-worthy makeover, Stella sees the perfect solution to both their problems.

What’s a little fake smooching between friend(ly professionals)?

Stella is determined to keep her eyes on the prize renovation and her hands OFF the hunky actor wandering shirtless through her construction site. But Luke has other ideas. Midnight skinny-dipping ideas.

If only he wasn’t so heart-stompingly, panty-twistingly handsome…

Soon, sparks are flying, and they’re both forgetting their kisses are just for show. But can this fake relationship weather a very real tabloid storm? Or will past betrayals and the Hollywood spotlight drive them apart before their romance has even begun?

Find out in the new hot and hilarious romantic comedy from USA Today bestselling author, Lila Monroe!

I have not read this series before, even with that I understood everything and want to read the other books in the series. This story is about Luke, a bigtime TV/movie star who is now divorced from his ex who is trying to destroy his career. He buys a house in the Hamptons as a fixer upper to escape her lies and rumors.

Stella also has an ex from hell. He is out to steal all her construction jobs. That is until Stella convinces Luke to hire her to fix his house and she agrees to pretend to be his girlfriend so the rumors die. That is how the two get to know each other and form a friendship that eventually leads to a romance.

Most of the book I truly loved, Luke was a fantastic character and I loved him, Stella had his back many many times. But then Luke believes a lie about Stella and they have the breakup and I was not a fan of Luke. He treats her pretty awfully and eventually he comes back to reality. My only issue is I wanted Stella to make him pay and I felt she forgave way too easy.

That said aside from this I loved all the characters and the story. I fell hard for Stellas friends and I loved how down to earth Luke was.

FALL by Kristen Callihan

ABOUT THE BOOK

The first time I met Jax Blackwood things went a little sideways. In my defense, I didn’t know he was Jax Blackwood—who expects a legendary rock star to be shopping for groceries? More importantly, a blizzard was coming and he was about to grab the last carton of mint-chocolate chip. Still, I might have walked away, but then he smugly dared me to try and take the coveted ice cream. So I kissed him. And distracted that mint-chip right out of his hands. Okay, it was a dirty move, but desperate times and all that. Besides, I never expected he’d be my new neighbor. An annoying neighbor who takes great pleasure in reminding me that I owe him ice cream but would happily accept more kisses as payment. An irresistible neighbor who keeps me up while playing guitar naked–spectacularly naked–in his living room. Clearly, avoidance is key. Except nothing about Jax is easy to ignore—not the way he makes me laugh, or that his particular brand of darkness matches mine, or how one look from him melts me faster than butter under a hot sun. Neither of us believes in love or forever. Yet we’re quickly becoming each other’s addiction. But we could be more. We could be everything. All we have to do is trust enough to fall.

EXCERPT

The air between us shifts. I’m filled with a strange giddiness, wanting to laugh for the fun of it, but I’m also too warm, my limbs oddly heavy as if simple movements might be too much for me. His tone turns soft and cajoling, teasing the truth out of me. “Are you going to tell me what you do?” When I say nothing, the corners of his eyes crinkle. “I see. You’re going to torture me a bit.” The warm, fuzzy feeling grows as I shrug. “Torture feels apropos in this scenario.” He hums again, taking another step toward me. “What makes you think I won’t like being tortured by you?” The heat of his body and the scent of his skin makes my head light and my pulse pound. How did it get to this point where the highlight of my day is flirting with Jax Blackwood? Despite the thrill, I know I’m in over my head. I haven’t gone out on a date in months because I form attachments, I get emotional, and then I hurt when they inevitably leave. And this man will leave. He is as bright and fleeting as a camera flash. I’ll be left with the image of him seared into my memory and nothing more. I tell myself all of this, the voice in my head as stern as possible. But it doesn’t make me back away. It doesn’t stop my body from somehow straining toward his without even moving. Because it might be stupid of me, but I want to feel something that isn’t planned. Something, for however briefly, that’s real. He’s too attuned to me not to notice. John’s lids lower as his attention slides down my body before easing back up to my face. Slowly, he rests his forearm on the wall beside my head. “Tell me, Stella,” he murmurs. “No,” I whisper back, flirting, even though I shouldn’t. His biceps bunch as he leans in, a smile dancing on his lips. “Tell.” My breasts graze his chest, and I feel it in my toes. “You’re crowding me.” I hate how breathy I sound. “Can’t help it.” His voice is a rumble, the heat of his breath playing over my skin. He ducks his head, drawing close until our lips nearly brush, and when he speaks again, his tone is almost conversational, except for the husky quality that touches deep within my core. “You smell like strawberries. Fucking delicious.” My lids flutter, and I swallow hard. “Ordinarily, I’d call you out on that clichรฉ but since I’ve been eating strawberries, you aren’t exactly wrong.” His chuckle is slow and easy, as he eases back and his gaze slowly travels over my face. “Were they sweet, Stella Button?” He’s looking at my mouth like he might try to find out. My lips tremble in response, and John tracks the movement, his breathing getting deeper, faster. “You have two freckles on your lips. One on the top lip and one on the bottom corner.” Those damn freckles. They were the bane of my adolescence. I hid them with lipstick and silently cursed whenever someone mentioned them. Freckles don’t have any feelings, but I swear it’s as if he’s touching them. “You’re just noticing this?” I try to make it sound like a joke, but it comes out weak and thready. His own lips quirk. “Oh, I noticed. It’s distracting as hell. They’re like two little dots of butter toffee. Makes me want to lick them, get a taste.” Oh, God. Lick them, please. I can almost feel it. I want to feel it. No. Bad Stella. Behave. John’s lips part a fraction like he just might take that taste. “Back off,” I whisper. And yet somehow my traitorous hands find their way to his sides, running over the waistband of his jeans, holding him there. John makes a sound deep in his throat and tilts his hips, pressing them against mine. A distinctly thick bulge nudges my belly. Both of us lose a breath, and then he’s closer, his cheek touching my temple. “You’ll have to let me go first.” My thumbs slide under the edge of his shirt and find smooth, taut skin. A tremor goes through his body. I try to think, search for what the hell we’ve been talking about. His lips brush the crest of my cheek as he murmurs against my skin. “Tell me what you do, Stella. You know you want to.” My smile feels illicit. Somehow the action is directly tied to all my happy parts, making them draw hot and tight. “I don’t think I do.” Another hum. “Liar. You’re dying to.”

This book was beyond wonderful. It is well written and deals with some very serious subjects in such an incredible way. I am a fan of this authors previous work and I love this series as well. But this book took a few very serious subjects like depression, self medicating and suicide and dealt with it in a wonderful manner. Jax/John, our hero and a rocker has suffered from all at a point in his life. He is now all better and on medication but he still has his bad moments and days when he is his own worst enemy and while this story made him into a wonderful romantic lead, it also made him still suffer from the voices in his head that try to make him FALL.

Jax meets his leading lady, Stella at a grocery store at midnight before a big snow storm as they fight over ice cream. Then he finds out she is his new neighbor and that is when the fun starts. This story is about two extremely lonely people finding first friendship, acceptance and love. Not only of each other but of themselves and their pasts and it was told in such a beautiful way.

It is #3 in the series and we see a lot of the past couples in the series but we also get updates on the couples and lives. Though it is the 3rd book it also easily can stand alone as we  never got to know Jax before and this story introduces Stella.

A plethora of professional opportunities lay before her, but her secret past holds her back. Running into the only man who’s ever made her want more from life wasn’t part of her plan, but she can't forget the way it feels to be lost in his arms.

About the Author:

Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she’s called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She’s never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she’d probably choose the west coast. Kat’s a typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max).

When she’s not writing, she’s either scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) – traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible. She hopes to retire there one day so she can spend her days writing books on the beach. Kat has been a working freelance writer for nearly 30 years. She sold her first article–a review of a rock concert–for $10 in 1985.

Since then she’s been an entertainment journalist, waitress, bartender, legal assistant, food critic, magazine editor, substitute teacher, and sports writer. She also spent some time working at A & M Records in Los Angeles. As you can guess from her series, the Las Vegas Sidewinders, Kat loves hockey. She is also a freelance hockey writer, covering her favorite team, the Florida Panthers, and any other teams that have an interesting story. The rest of the time, she writes novels: sexy, romantic fiction that she hopes makes you as happy as it makes her. There’s something enticing about hockey players and romance…

This is book 3 in the series and it was beyond wonderful. It stars Jake/Jack, the hockey team Captain of an Alaskan team and Whitney who is best friends with Jake's friends. Her past is very mysterious but she comes to town to help out her best friend when she has twins.

Jake/Jack met Whitney four years before and they had some great times until he told her he was married. (he was in middle of a divorce). Now four years later the two are friends with the same people and now live in the same small town, so they run into each other a lot. BUT Jack is yes still in middle of a divorce, so that still is an issue for Whitney.

I LOVED Whitney sooooooooo much. Jake is pretty wonderful too even if at times I didn't understand why he still was sympathetic with his ex. His ex does make an appearance but she never comes between Jake and Whitney. What I didn't like about her was more about how she takes up with his best friend. She really was so icky that I hate that she is still around and causing trouble for another character, Sara.

But this book was kinda wonderful until Whitney's secret comes out and well Jake does not do well with secrets and Whitney and him struggle and my heart kinda broke for both of them. I am not spoiling anything, you will have to read this one yourself but it was pretty great. Maybe my top one in this series.

This is book 2 in a series about a family and it stands alone easily though I did review the first book as well.

This is a estranged husband and wife 2nd chance at romance story. Kyle is a famous screen play writer but years before he married his high school sweetheart, Ophelia who ended up hating Hollywood so she dumped him and ran home to run her families Inn.

Kyle needs to write their love story in a script so he goes home again and wants to crash t the Inn. This was a heart warming and wonderful story with two people who love each other but have to learn to put each other first.

I really loved it and cannot wait for Harper's story.

EXCERPT:

The bell dings, and I reach for my small handbag and answer the door. Brody’s eyes start at my face and slowly meander down my body to my sandal-covered feet, and if I’m not mistaken, his jaw clenches. Just friends, Brooke. “Hey.” I can’t help but take my own perusal of the man standing before me. Jesus in a basket, he fills out a suit nicely. His shoulders are broad, and his arms muscular. Yes, this does things to me. “Can I come in?” he asks with a small smile on his lips. “Of course.” I step back and he walks inside my small house. “This is nice,” he says, but his eyes are still on me. “Thanks. I’ve been here for a couple of years.” I glance around, wondering if Brody and I have the same tastes, and then I glance back to him and bust out laughing. “What?” he asks. “Turn around.” He complies, and I reach up to pull the tag that’s poked out of the neck of his jacket. His hair is soft against the back of my fingers, and I can’t help but wonder what it would feel like as I fist it while he does amazing, sexy things to me. I take a deep breath and hand it to him with a laugh. “Wear it every day, my ass.” He tucks the tag in his pocket. “I didn’t bring a suit to Montana. I had to improvise.” He bought it just for me. And according to the tag, it wasn’t cheap. Now I feel bad. I shouldn’t have pushed the issue. He spent a bunch of money that he didn’t need to, all because I gave him a hard time. “I thought we could eat at Ciao tonight,” he says as he leads me out of the house to his rented convertible. The sun broke out a couple of hours ago, and it’s the perfect temperature now. But I just did my hair. I think about asking him to put the top up, and then decide, fuck it. I reach into my handbag and pull out a hair tie, twist my hair on top of my head, and grin as I sit in the fun car. “I could have put the top up.” “And that would have been a waste on a day like today,” I reply smoothly and have to physically restrain myself from reaching over to brush my fingertips through that soft hair at the nape of his neck. We drive through town in silence. Rather than park in front of the restaurant, he drives past, and I frown over at him. “Having second thoughts?” “No.” He sends me a smile. “Before we go in, I’d like to know why you got so quiet.” I bite my lip and look out my window, then turn to him and say, “Did you buy that suit just for me?” “Seems I do a lot of things for you lately,” he replies with a grin. “It’s not a big deal, Brooke.” “I’m sorry,” I reply. “I was just goofing around this afternoon. I didn’t mean for you to have to do all of this.” “All of what?” “Buy that gorgeous suit, take me to dinner. I feel like I hijacked your day, and I feel bad.” He pulls over, whips his seatbelt off, and turns to me. “Look at me.” I comply. He drags his knuckle down my cheek again, and that’s all it takes to set my body on high alert.

This book is very short. It is novella size or maybe even shorter. It is about Brooke, a side character who lives in Cunningham Falls and who knows all the characters from the other books. None are super close to her, but she owns a flower shop and so we see cameos from them and updates on their lives as she delivers flowers to them and shares a moment in their life.

The storyline is that Brooke owns a flower shop owned by her former crush and best friend, Brody, who one day stopped talking to her and ran out of town as soon as he hit 18. He has not been back and is only in town now to sell the property his father left him.

Brody had a hard life, everyone thought his dad was this great guy but he abused him and his mom for years. He only has awful memories of the town he grew up in and he wants to sell and get out. But he cannot resist Brooke and so he agrees to work alongside her as she shows him why she loves Cunnigham Falls and why her flower store is so important.

It was a sweet romance and I liked all the characters. The big obstacle is that Brody hates Cunningham Falls and Brooke loves it. He also has a business in San Franscisco and that is a long way away from CF.

If you are looking for a sweet, 2nd chance romance that is a fast read then you will love this story. I really would have liked it to have been longer, and had a little more depth but it was still enjoyable.

Nick Balachov has zero interest in socializing, partying, or flirting right now. It’s not that he doesn’t like women. He loves them. It’s just that hockey, casual hookups, and hanging out at home are enough for him these days. Now Nick has a big problem—because the woman living in his empty coach house is a major distraction.

Big deal? The more Nick tries to keep his distance, the more Jodie needs him—around the house, that is. First he helps with the snowstorm, then the power outage. Nick even finds himself trying to impress her little girl. What the hell is wrong with him? Jodie represents everything Nick doesn’t want. But maybe she’s just what he needs. . . .

This is book 8 in a series and it easily stands alone. It stars Nick, a player on a hockey team, he is very anti social and has a painful past. He meets Jodie at a party and she is absolute opposite in that she is very social, is a single mom and is best friends with Nick's best friends (Max) new girl friend.

Jodie has moved to town from NY because her best friend is now here and in love. They own a sex toy company together. Jodie is also a single mom and her friends help her move into Nick's guest house. Which is how Jordie and Nick start to get to know each other.

The big issue between the two is that Jordie is a single mom and her daughter is her life and Nick feels he is not a family guy, in fact he feels he cannot take care of anyone but himself. So Jordie has to help him realise what a great guy he is and how blessed her and her daughter are to have him in their lives.

This was a fun and sweet romance and I really enjoyed getting to know Nick and Jordie.

ABOUT THE BOOK
The summer before my senior year of high school I had only one goal: to make Alden Warner see me as more than his best friend’s annoying little sister.

Finally, my wish came true and he noticed me. In a big way. Too bad that the next morning he had no memory of our night together, leaving me heartbroken, and as I later discovered…pregnant.

For the last four years, I’ve been rocking the single mom thing, making sure my daughter comes first. In fact, everything is going fine—until Alden storms back into my life, as my new boss.

His reappearance wasn’t something I planned for. Add my nosy, meddlesome three-year-old and an overprotective brother, and I’m obviously in way over my head.

My only hope now is that I can sway Alden to see things my way…but you know what they say about the best laid plans…

EXCERPT
There’s something in the air that feels charged. The kind of energy that says anything could happen. The song changes and I close my eyes, hoping like hell I’m not misreading him. Blinking them back open, I scan the room for my brother—he’s nowhere in sight—good.
I set off toward Alden, hips still swaying, and he noticed. Oh, he notices. When I get close, he takes two steps bringing us toe-to-toe. “Small Fry,” he murmurs, his voice a little slurred. Feeling bold, I run the tip of my index finger down his chest. “Dance with me?”
He too scans the room before spinning me and pulling me into him. With my ass nestled against him…oh, God…he’s hard. He grips my hips and we move together, every roll, every dip completely in sync.
I startle when his lips come down on my neck. “When did you get so fucking hot?”
My stomach—and things lower—clench. This could be it! He’s finally noticing you! The boy you’ve always loved is noticing you! my brain shouts at me.
I grind back into him and turn my face up to his. “It’s not my fault it took you so long to notice.”
Alden smirks down at me and steps away. I instantly mourn the loss of his heat. But then, he takes my hand and sets off for the stairs. Before I know it, we’re in the guest room he always stays in when he spends the night. He sits down on the edge of the bed and loops his index fingers in my belt loops, tugging me forward.
He flicks open the button to my jeans and I gasp, shocked and turned on by his boldness. A boy my age would never dare. When he begins pulling them down my legs, my breathing accelerates. Just as quickly, he strips me of my shirt, leaving me in nothing more than my matching bra and panty set—though, the bra doesn’t last long.
I think I shock both of us when I say, “What about you?”
He drags his hands around to my ass, squeezing it, before trailing up over my sides and to my breast. “What about me, Small Fry?” “Are you gonna take your clothes off too?”
He leans forward and takes one of my breasts into his mouth. I moan at the foreign sensation. I’ve heard Alyssa talk about how good it feels, but this…this is beyond anything I could have ever imagined. “Do you want me to?”
“Y-yes.” I can hardly get the word out due to the sensations rioting through my body.
He quickly shucks off his clothes and strips me of my thong. He kisses my right hip and then lower before rolling us so that he is poised above me. I’m not sure which has me feeling more drunk—the two beers and shot I took earlier, or Alden’s touch. “You sure, Small Fry?”
“More than ever,” I murmur, meaning with my entire being.

This book was pretty great but it starts off in a painful way. At the start of the story the heroine, Natalie/Nat is in love with the hero, Alden, her brothers bestie and a close family friend. She is 17 and he is 20 and they both get drunk and have sex. But he has no clue it happens and he pretty much breaks her heart. That was the hardest part for me for this story because I fell pretty hard for Nat. Then the story continues on and Nat watches as Alden gets into a long term relationship and she finds out she is pregnant. She makes some decisions trying to protect Alden and that is where the first part of the story ends.

The story then picks up 4 years later and Alden who has been engaged and living in Europe is heading home to run a restaurant that was in his family. It just so happened that Nat now works there. nd that is how the two fall into lust again. This time Alden is the pursuer and he wants Nat very badly but Nat knows he needs to know the truth and that is really what this story is about.

Nat has some really BIG secrets and it rocks not only Alden but her and his entire family. This was my favorite part of the book as everyone has to decide how to forgive her. She was a 117 year old girl who had some big decisions to make and I loved that she owns her decisions, good or bad.

This was wonderfully written and all the characters were pretty wonderful and I absolutely loved this story. The only part I did not like is that Nat never was with anyone but Alden and while I understood it to some degree I wish she had someone else as Alden was with this other woman longterm.
