Falling Hard - The Blackhawk Boys #4 - By Lexi Ryan

An NFL player with a secret past, and the one woman with the power to turn his world inside out…

Former actress Emma Rothschild is partying in Vegas in disguise. But I’m not fooled. Five years ago, I knew that body better than my own, and I haven’t forgotten a single detail—not the curve of her hip beneath my hand or the hitch in her breath when I kiss her neck.

When Emma’s unexpectedly left alone in Sin City, I agree to spend the weekend with her. As friends. Why not? If I can knock down the toughest guys in the NFL, I’m strong enough to keep my hands to myself, even if she is the sexiest woman I’ve ever met.

Emma is part of my past—years so shrouded in secrets that not even my best friends know the truth about who I am. I’m a single dad now and not interested in revisiting my old ways or trying to win back the only woman I ever let close enough to break my heart.

But this is Vegas, where all bets are off, and with Emma, nothing ever goes as planned…

EXCERPT

“You’re too beautiful,” I tell her. I run my thumb along her jaw. “Too fucking beautiful.”
“I’ve missed you. You’re the best man I’ve ever met.”
My stomach clenches and I shake my head. “Don’t think that. It’s a lie. It’s what I wanted you to believe. Don’t bring that lie into tonight.”
“How was it a lie?” She grins up at me, and I know a full confession would erase all the happiness from her face.
“When we were together before, I wasn’t the man you thought I was. I wasn’t good.” It’s the closest to the truth I’ve ever given anyone about my past.
“So you don’t want me believing you’re good?”
I pull her hips tightly against me as I exhale in frustration. She still thinks this is some kind of joke. “I’m different now, but then…”
She lifts onto her toes and flicks her tongue against my ear. “Don’t be so different. I like you a little bad.”
I groan and stop dancing. I don’t know how much longer I can do this without diving over the line. “Is that permission to stop being your friend?” I’m obsessed with knowing if she tastes as sweet as I remember. And if I swipe my tongue over the sensitive spot beneath her ear, will she gasp like she always did?

She shrugs and grins, and the dance floor tilts off balance. It’s crowded, and we’re surrounded by writhing bodies, cocooned in the crowd. I turn her in my arms so her back is to my front and settle my hand against the soft skin of her midriff. She arches her back and rubs against me.
I sweep her hair to the side, and when I press my lips to the long, smooth column of her neck, she trembles against me.
“Are you okay?” I ask against her ear. “Is this okay?”
“I—I’m not sure…”
“Tell me what you want. Not five years ago. Not tomorrow. What do you want right now?”
She reaches back and threads her fingers through my hair to guide my mouth back to her neck.
I don’t hesitate. I kiss and suck on that tender skin while we move to the beat.
The rest of the room fades and one song blurs into the next. A waitress comes by selling shots, and I buy two, one for each of us, and we lock eyes as we throw them back. At some point, I’m vaguely aware of Bailey checking on me, but my focus is one hundred percent on Emma, on this night that takes me back to when I was eighteen and so fucking in love it hurt. Tonight, Emma isn’t the woman who once broke my heart. She isn’t the girl who wrote me off with a simple goodbye note and apologies I didn’t want. Tonight, she’s a dream, my fantasy in the flesh, my reward for surviving the hardest year of my whole life.

When her face begins to blur, I realize I’m way more drunk than I ever intended. I need to sober up or I’m not going to remember a minute of this night. “Want to get out of here?”
She nods, takes my hand, and leads me out of the bar and down the hall to the elevators. My watch reads a quarter past two.
“Let’s get some food,” I suggest, but at the same moment, an elevator dings and the doors slide open.
Emma grabs my hand and drags me inside. “I don’t want food,” she says, punching a button.
I spin her around and press her against the wall. “What do you want, Em?” I drop my hand to her side to skim my knuckles over her skirt, and she widens her stance to part her thighs. “Fuck,” I whisper. I shouldn’t do this. Not here, not when any moment someone could join us on the elevator, not when we’re both so damn drunk it’s a wonder we can stand upright. But shouldn’t is so much weaker than want, and I want to touch her more than I want anything right now.
I’m faintly aware of the soft beeping of the passing floors as I slide my hand up her skirt and cup her between her legs. She gasps, and I rub my fingers over the damp lace of her panties, teasing her swollen flesh.
When the elevator stops and the doors slide open, she grabs my wrist and holds me still. “Please,” she whispers in my ear. “Please. Don’t stop.” Then she tilts her hips and rocks against my hand. I couldn’t refuse her if every person in the hotel was watching us.

Addicted 2 Romance Review:

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This book is hard to rate because I feel this book should come with a few warnings. One is there is a rape and pedophilia is an issue in this story. If those two things bother you do not read this story.

Second, Keegan has had a baby with his ex but they are not really total exes. It gets really weird some of the scenes with the ex. His ex definitely sleeps around and that kinda made the whole think icky to me. I was really looking forward to the single daddy aspect of the story but it was more the ex and the baby plus daddy than what I expected.

All in all I read this entire book. It was definitely well written and I liked the two main characters of Emma and Keegan. Things are not always as they appear in this story and I would be prepared for a fe surprises in this story. I really do not want to say anything else.

Also their are small elements of cheating. In the situations it was not super clear cut so you will have to read and see how you feel. To some degree Keegan was a great guy, but some of his choices were lets say not what I expected.

This was a really great story with lost of twists and turns until the truth comes out.

 About the Book

RT Book Reviews proclaims that the O’Brien Family series from award-winning author Cecy Robson “has the hottest brothers ever!” And in FEEL ME, Declan, the sexy, driven powerhouse meets the one woman immune to his charm . . .

Declan O’Brien was always driven to take his place among Philly’s elite, working hard for everything he’s earned, including the title of Assistant District Attorney. He’s won seemingly impossible cases, so he’s furious when he’s assigned to lead the one unit he doesn’t want.

Melissa Fenske was born hearing impaired to a neglectful mother, finding solace when she was adopted by a young attorney, now Declan’s boss. As the current Director of Victim Services, Melissa’s livid when Declan is placed in the main unit she oversees. She can’t forget their disastrous first encounter. Or shake how he makes her feel.

Declan considers the assignment another step toward his political aspirations, despite that he can’t get Melissa out of his mind. Melissa sees Declan as egotistical and self-serving, kicking herself for how fast she’s falling for him. Someone as hot, smooth, and perfect as Declan isn’t supposed to want her.

In another situation with any other woman, Declan wouldn’t hesitate to take Melissa to bed. But she is the boss’s daughter, and for once, Declan finds himself wanting more than just a one night stand. Neither counted on each other. Both just met their match.

My hands fall to my lap. “I suppose now is a good time to tell you what I’m looking for,” I say quietly.
“What you’re looking for?” he asks.
I tilt my chin, wondering why he seems confused. “Well, yes. I have certain needs that I’m hoping you’ll help me with.”
His grip to his pen tightens. “Needs? For yourself?”
“For my unit,” I clarify. I wish like his brother, Declan also understood American Sign Language. Then I could sign and not give away how nervous I sometimes feel around him. I roll my ankle, trying to shake off some of my anxiety. For all he drives me crazy, he’s doing a hell of a job making me feel self-conscious. That doesn’t mean I’ll cower or stay quiet. “It’s my understanding that the assistant D.A.s currently assigned to SACU are burnt out and requesting reassignment.”
“That’s right,” he says, his expression sour. “Just a few hours on the job and I’ve already received transfer requests in writing.”
“I’d like to help select their replacements.” “Excuse me?” he asks.
Okay, here we go. Boob appreciation hour is officially over. “I’m not trying to step on your toes.”
“But?” he asks, leaning back against his chair.
“But nothing. I respect that the decision is ultimately yours. I’m only asking for the opportunity to provide input.” He keeps his expression neutral, and I can’t be sure he’s listening. I force myself to continue. “There have been a few new hires, and a few D.A.s looking to be challenged. I’d like to observe them in court and see how they perform on their feet. More importantly, I want to observe how they interact with victims of the more violent crimes.”
Declan appears anything but pleased. Either I’ve pissed him off or I’ve pushed him into something he’s not ready for. “I’m going to lay it right out for you,” he says, his tone matter-of fact. “SACU is the unit attorneys least want. I’m surprised the A.D.A.s currently there have lasted as long as they have.”
All right. I did annoy him. “They’ve lasted because it takes a while to become acclimated,” I counter. “But once there, they realize their importance and how much the victims and their families depend on them to help them through the process.”
“I’m not saying the work or the victims aren’t important. What I’m saying is no one is exactly begging to work there.”
“I realize SACU is the last place our attorneys want to be placed,” I say, staring straight at him. “Especially those who enter this office strictly to make connections and jump start their political careers. But it’s one of the most important units because of the sensitive subject matter and the degree of violence we see.”
I don’t mean to be so blunt, and maybe he doesn’t either, but here we sit with our gazes locked and the tension between us escalating.
Damn it. Dad wants us to work as a team. But the more we speak, the more I’m reminded Declan doesn’t want to be a part of this unit, and nowhere near me.
I inadvertently trail my fingers above the collar of my dress, it’s a nervous habit, much like when women tuck a strand of their hair behind their ear. But I never tuck my hair with my hearing aids in place. Any sound that brushes too close to the receiver such as the movement of hair, putting on a hat, resting my head against a pillow, even an intimate whisper, creates back noise similar to nails on a chalkboard.
My fingertips stroke close to the swell of my right breast as I think our situation through. I freeze when I realize Declan’s stare is following each subtle movement.
This is too weird. No way can Declan O’Brien be eyeing me like he wants to take a lick.
I ran into him at a restaurant a few weeks back. I was picking up takeout following a five mile run, still wearing the shorts and sports bra I ran in. Of course I had to see him. And of course he had to look good . . . and so did the blonde on his arm. She was a total stick and all legs, wearing a dress I don’t think I could have shoved my left breast into. I’m so not his type. So then why . . .
“I’ll allow the input,” he says.
“I’m sorry?”
“I’ll allow the input,” he says, a little louder.
This time I don’t correct him. I didn’t hear him, too busy watching him watch me which is absolutely ridiculous―ludicrous even―and good God, why does he have to look so good in that damn suit!
“Thank you,” I say, tripping over the word.

Addicted 2 Romance Review:

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is only my second book by this author and I enjoyed it. The book is pretty fast paced and I liked that it is very law case centered and also very character driven. There are not really a lot of drama and not much violence.

This is Declan O'Briens story. I previously read Wren's story and not any others so this story easily stands alone. Declan is Wren's older brother and is very ambitious. His goal is to be the youngest DA in Philadelphia and then Mayor and Governor. Romance is really nothing he is into. He has one nighters and he is totally good with that. He saw his parents bad relationship and he does not believe in love for himself.

He has known Melissa for years. In fact her father is his mentor and is the current DA, but her father needs to take a leave of abscence and he asks Melissa to work closely with Declan as he plans to appoint him in charge of Special Victims and Melissa is a police/DA liason and will need to work closely with Declan in his new role.

Meanwhile Melissa lusts for Declan but knows she is too imperfect to date him as he only dates these skinny things. Melissa is very curvy, opinionated and is also deaf, so while she really likes herself, no one would call her perfect.

What she doesn't know is that Dylan always says the wrong thing to her and thats because he is in total lust with her too. But now that they work so close together, her father is his boss, well those are the obstacles between the two.

I really loved the slow build up of their relationship of them getting to know each other. But the real obstacle between the two is Declans lack of faith in love and then Melissa has issues with whether she can trust his motives in a relationship with her.

How it ends? well it was just so great. I had a few tears in my eyes by the end of the book. It really is a story that is sweet, romantic and poignant.

Duke of Manhattan by Louise Bay

Links

About the Book

Duke of Manhattan, an all-new contemporary romance by Louise Bay is available now!!!

I was born into British aristocracy, but I’ve made my fortune in Manhattan. New York is now my kingdom.

Back in Britain my family are fighting over who’s the next Duke of Fairfax. The rules say it’s me--if I’m married. It’s not a trade-off worth making. I could never limit myself to just one woman.

Or so I thought until my world is turned upside down. Now, the only way I can save the empire I built is to inherit the title I’ve never wanted -- so I need a wife.

To take my mind off business I need a night that’s all pleasure. I need to bury myself in a stranger.

The skim of Scarlett King’s hair over my body as she bends over . . .

The scrape of her nails across my chest as she screams my name . . .

The bite of her teeth on my shoulder just as we both reach the edge . . .

It all helps me forget.

I just didn’t bargain on finding my one night stand across the boardroom table the next day.

She might be my latest conquest but I have a feeling Scarlett King might just conquer me.

A sexy, standalone romance.

Addicted 2 Romance Review:

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This book is part of  3 book series and I have read them all. They are actually the only books I have red by this author.

Book 1: is the King of Wall Steet and I LOVED it. So much it stars Harper and Max. Max is a single dad and has his own company. He hires Harper and things go from there. In this book, book 3 Max and Harper are mentioned alot so I would definitely read this first book.

Book 2: is Park Avenue Prince and it was enjoyable but nowhere near how much I loved the first book. It stars Sam and Grace who are in book three for I think one or two scenes. So if you never read this book, you won't feel like you are missing anything.

Book 3 is the Duke of Manhatten and OMG it was the best in the entire series. I LOVED Ryder and Scarlett together. They have a marriage of convenience that I beyond loved. They became best friends and teamates and everyone can see as they fall for the other,. Only they have no clue. Yep they are the last to know and I loved this entire book. It is one I know I will re-read.

The story unfolds in a wonderful manner. We meet Ryder as he rushes to his grandfathers side after he falls. There he finds that in order to save his company he must get married so if his grandfather dies, he inherits the Duke title and he gets to keep his company.  He hates teh idea of marriage and until he meets Scarlett he doesn't even contemplate it.

Scarlett and Ryder meet at a bar. She has been divorced and her husband was the love of her life but he dumped her calling her boring. So we meet her as her and her sister are having a drink. That is where she meets Ryder and has a one night stand with him.

The next day they meet professionally and OMG those scenes were so terrific. Scarletts business loans are up and Ryder's compan wants to pay them off and buy her company, but she does not want to sell. And so a bargain is made.

These two, together well they become friends and have the hottest sex ever. There are TONS of sex scenes and they are HOT!!! But while thats happenin they are also talking and falling in love though they have no clue.

I loved watching them become friends and have each others back. This really is the best of the entire series and I beyond loved it. If you like a story with love, family, friends and finding your best friend then you will love this story.

Addicted 2 Romance Review:

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is book 2 in the series and I loved it as much as I did the first book. This book stars Finn, who is the twin brother of the heroine in the first book, Olivia. Olivia fell in love with Finn's best friend, Nathan in book 1 and in this story it is Finn's turn to fall in love or lust with Olivia's best friend, Cora.

Cora, Olivia and Finn grew up together. After high school Finn and Cora went to college while Olivia roamed the world. That first year they became very close and while they were attracted they never wanted to risk their friendship.

This story starts at Finn and Cora have sex at a frat party. They both are the type who do one nighters and so they try and go their separate ways but they cannot stop thinking about the other and they both still fear what a romance would do to their friendship.

This was a really great romance about besties finding lust and love. It also a college age novel. It is extremely well written and I could not put it down as I loved both Cora and Finn together. I loved seeing how jealous they each got as they tried to resist the other.

Swear - Landry Family #4 - by Adriana Locke

About the Story

Ellie Pagan has a list of reasons to stay away from Ford Landry. It’s a mile long and was so much easier to stick to when he was a world away. Now that he’s standing in front of her—body hard and chiseled from a stint in the military, suit cut to perfection, and a smirk she could never resist—remembering all the reasons why just got a whole lot harder.

Ford gets Ellie isn’t his biggest fan. He just doesn’t care. Standing in front of him, giving him hell, she’s even prettier than he remembered. All he can think about is how she felt in his arms, the taste of her kiss, the sound of her giggle in the middle of the night. He may not know how to win her back, but he does know this: he may have let her go once, but that’s one mistake he won’t make again.

EXCERPT

Our breathing quickens, the blues of his eyes growing stormy. A chill tears through me as he accidentally-on-purpose brushes his arm against mine. It’s like muscle memory, my body remembering exactly what to do around his.
My knees dip, my mouth waters, and I fight the ache in between my thighs as he looks down at me like it’s me he wants for dinner.
“What if I throw breakfast in afterwards?” he prods. “Does that make me, I mean it, more appetizing?”
That’s all it takes, that one little hint of arrogance, that brings me back to reality.
I flip him a smile. “It makes it less, actually.”
His own smile wavers. “I get that you probably hate me.”
“You’re right. I do.”
“I want the chance to explain.”
“You have the same chances of getting the chance to explain as I do of getting what every woman wants.”
“What’s that?”
I lean in, like I’m going to tell him a secret. Whispering, I say, “Being able to eat all the pizza and not gain an ounce.”
Turning on my heel, I head to the back as his chuckle fills the room. “That was good. I’ll give you that.”
I shrug and keep walking.
“You can at least let me apologize.”
The authority in his tone, like I owe him something, stops me in my tracks. I whirl around to face him. “You don’t deserve a chance to apologize to me.”
“I didn’t say I deserved it,” he says earnestly. “But I would love the opportunity to do so.” He forces a swallow, my eyes glued to his lips. “I would appreciate the chance to get to see you again.”
The snicker that comes from me is unexpected by both of us. “So charming. I forgot how good you are with words.”
“Does that mean that’s a yes?”
“That means that’s a no,” I smile. “That means I’m not about to let you come in here and look at me with those bright blue eyes and make me forget what it felt like to have you rip my heart out.”
He flinches. “I didn’t mean to do that, Ellie.”
“Don’t act surprised,” I laugh angrily. “There’s no way you thought I just went on with my life after you left. I dated you for four years, Ford. And after what we went through …”
It’s me gulping now, the anger so palpable that I almost have tears in my eyes. My hands shake as I remember the fight that ensued after he told me he was enlisting.
“You left me,” I repeat, shaking my head. “So leave me again. There’s the door. Should I hold it open for you this time?”

Addicted 2 Romance Review:

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I have read this entire series and up until now Barrett was my favorite. Not anymore, now I am a Ford girl. I loved Ford before, but in this book he is hot, sweet and romantic and he fights for the girl he has always loved.

Ellie fights against him. They grew up together and were high school sweethearts but she felt he dumped her and ran away when she needed him the most to go in the military. Now its ten years later and she is opening a new business in town and she meets  Mallory (from the previous book) who decides to matchmake for Ellie and Ford.

The results are not pretty and I loved that Ellie makes Ford really work hard for it. I also loved how we get to see all the Landry's. We see Dani and Linc's baby being born and let me tell you it was so sweet I felt like crying. This book is big on romance and family and I really love that about the series.

In this book we get 2 weddings and a baby and I not telling you whose weddings. We also have a funeral and let me tell you that funeral really brought out my emotions. Half the time reading this book I cried, sighed at the romance and love and other times I just well loved it. It was a wonderful story with lots of ups and downs.

I liked that Ellie really has to work hard at not just forgiving Ford for the past but also to learn to really trust him. This story has ALOT of Landry's and we really start to get to know the girls in this story, which I loved.

This is a story that is really big on family and what that really means. From times of great joy to times when you really need to pull together. I really adored this book and I think its really one of the best in the series.
