Country Gold - A Wilder Sisters Novel - by Heatherly Bell

About the Book

A second chance...

A scandal ended the careers of the Wilder Sisters, the chart topping country rock band. But Lexi Wilder is okay with that, thanks for asking. She's been on the road since roughly forever, and even if the scandal has followed her home to Whistle Cove, California, Lexi is going to enjoy the break. After all, there's quite nothing like the beautiful sandy beaches of Monterey Bay to calm a woman's soul.

Luke Wyatt never asked to trade fame and fortune for the only woman he's ever loved.

Now that he's finished a punishing year-long national tour, all bets are off. He's coming back to his hometown of Whistle Cove for the quiet, the beaches, the inspiration, and the girl. Not necessarily in that order. There's pressure from Nashville to deliver more country gold like the #1 song he co-wrote with Lexi Wilder.

But Lexi can’t forgive Luke for choosing fame over her…

“Lexi Wilder.”
She recognized the deep voice, the smooth sound of whiskey if it could speak. Lexi whipped around to face Luke Wyatt. Her heart hiccupped at the sight of his long and lean body braced against the side of her cottage. One corner of his mouth tipped up in a half smile and he studied her with those deep and fathomless dark eyes.
Her mouth was dry. Knees? Liquid. “W-what are you doing here?”
“Wasn’t going to give you the chance to say you don’t want to see me.” He moved away from the side of the house and took a step toward her. “Tour’s over. I’m home.”
Despite her churning gut, she found her voice. “We have no vacancy. You’ll have to stay somewhere else.”
He went brows up. “Just checked in.”
When she didn’t speak, but simply swallowed and blinked, trying like hell to regain her balance, he filled in the silence.
“Still mad at me. Still won’t talk to me.”
She was so not prepared to deal with this today. With him. “Why would I be mad? You mean because you wrote an entire album all about our private life? Every single private and personal thing about us. After everything I’ve been through with Sabrina. No, why would I be mad about that?”
“Baby,” he said, squaring his shoulders. “It’s what songwriters do. We write about our life, the pain and the joy.”
“I’d rather keep my private life private.”
“I’m sorry,” he said. “I was hurting. You wouldn’t take any of my calls. You wouldn’t come see me.”
“You didn’t seem to be hurting. You were all over my TV set, cozying up to gorgeous models and reality TV stars.”
She’d seen the woman practically on Luke’s lap at a televised awards show. And he was mad she hadn’t called him back? If he’d been hurt when she stopped taking his calls, he sure in the hell got over it quickly enough.
He took a step toward her making her take one back. No, no, no. Already she felt her body buzzing from being this close to him for the first time in a year.
“Give me a break, Lex. You know what this life is like. I didn’t even know that woman.”
Lexi did an internal face palm. No, no. It would not go this way. Check her out letting loose with all her pent up hurt and anger the minute he showed up, giving Luke every indication of how much she still cared about him. If she didn’t care at all, maybe the rumors of these women wouldn’t bother her so much. So she’d already blown her cover in the first twenty seconds of seeing him. Get a grip.
She’d expected to do much better than this if she ever ran into him again, say in Nashville while visiting Miranda Lambert to collaborate on some songs. Lexi would have another hit song by then. Maybe she’d be dating another handsome country singer not named Luke Wilder. She’d be over him by then.
Chalk it up to running into him so unexpectedly but this wasn’t how it was supposed to go. He shouldn’t still look so good to her, his beard making him look like a strong mountain man. Like a man who would take care of his woman.
For Luke, it turned out his career came first. Not her.
But the thing to do here was pretend it didn’t make a difference whether he stayed or left. Pretend he had that little effect on her. Maybe it wasn’t too late to salvage what little was left of her pride.
“I’m sorry.” She shook her head. “I’m being rude.”
He quirked a single brow. “Yeah?”
Score one for Lexi. She’d shocked him. Good.
“Of course. You’re a paying guest and I’m usually not so…so…”
“Pissy?” He gave her another smile, this one lifting both corners of his mouth and demonstrating he still had the power to render her speechless when he laid on the charm.
“Yeah. Pissy.” She let out a half-hearted fake laugh and waved hand in the air. “Rough day. You know how it is. Sisters.”
His brow furrowed. “And how’s Sabrina doing?”
Luke had a front row seat to the implosion of the Wilder Sisters. He’d been performing alongside them at the stadium in Oklahoma when Sabrina had her public mini-meltdown. Even though their demise as a band had meant his opportunity for stardom, Lexi didn’t doubt he’d been sorry about the way it had all happened.
When she’d been worried about Sabrina, whose entire life from the time she’d been ten had been the stage, Luke had held Lexi every night until she fell asleep, assuring her that Sabrina would survive this. They all would. And she’d fallen even deeper for the man. Luke reminded her there would be life after all the speculation and rumors. Because Luke Wyatt knew a lot about scandal. He understood what it was like to feel like you had to apologize just for being allowed to breathe the same air as everyone else.
“She’s okay. Still walks around with ear buds in all the time, singing and dancing. It’s in her blood. But I don’t think she wants to get back up on a stage anytime soon. None of us do.”
He nodded, as if he understood all too well. “And you. Are you still writing?”
Not with you.
Never again with you.
The wall was still up and there it would stay. If anything, she’d wallpaper it. But she was a Wilder first and foremost, and yes, they could put on a show.
She shrugged and got ready to lie. “Here and there.”
“I’m supposed to write a few more hit songs.” He held up finger quotes. “They want me back in the studio next week. So I thought I’d come here and relax. See if I can find some inspiration.”
His gaze took a slow slide down the length of her body and she almost felt…naked. She was so not going to be his inspiration. Not this time. He’d taken enough material from her already.
She took a breath and went for deep sincerity. “I hope you find what you’re looking for, Luke.”
And with that she opened the door to her cottage and closed it in his face.

I am a big fan of this author from her other stories so I was pretty excited to hear about this new series and it was a wonderful rock star/romance with some good small time and friends vibe. It is #1 of the Wilder Sisters series.

This first book is about Lexi and Luke. Lexi is the oldest sister and she has always helped take care of her sisters. They are all girl band that look was a roadie with. But then a scandal rocks them and they retire back home. Only Luke has gotten noticed and so as their careers in music are ending his is beginning and he picks the music of Lexi.

One year later, the story starts with Luke finally on a break and coming home and making things right with Lexi. I LOVED Luke. He was in a tough place and he made a very tough choice. But he is all in with Lexi and he has to show her that she owns his heart. This was a great 2nd chance romance and I cannot wait for more.

I LOVED this story. It is book 2 in a series of 3 books and each one easily stands alone.

This story is about the oldest brother Jack and he has two brothers, Connor and Sean. Sean has a bestie growing up, Grace and Grace had a huge crush on Jack but he never knew she existed, and in fact dated Grace's cousin.

One night at a function Jack runs into Grace and fails to recognize her, then he does as she spills drinks all over him. Hence starts their love/hate/lust/romance relationship. Grace's granddad sits on Jack's companies board and as Grace is unemployed he suggests they hire Grace and that is how Jack becomes Grace's boss.

Yep it is a boss/employee romance but also the forbidden brothers best friend thrown in as well. I really liked Jack a lot and Grace too and I am loving watching their relationship grow. One big obstacle in the story is that Grace is anti marriage and a big part of the storyline is that Jack's dad has died and he MUST marry within one year of his death - so he is also bride hunting.

I love Grace's dog, Jane Pawsten, he really is an adorable addition to the story. I will warn you that it is very slow moving romantically and is more inline with a slow burn story.

Marry Me - Lyrics and Love #1 - by Samantha Lind

About the Book

What do you do when you receive a wedding invitation from the one girl you always thought you would marry?

Sam- Lauren and her twin brother were my best friends growing up. She captured my heart from the moment I first saw her dancing through the sprinkler. I always kept my feelings hidden though, standing back as she dated other guys, afraid to cross that line and risk losing her. I even went out with a few girls myself, but no one ever measured up.
Then that dreaded day arrived, and I knew I’d lost her forever.

Lauren- Sam was always my constant. My rock. My best friend. That feeling, the one I only got around him, had never been matched by another man. But Sam never showed me he felt anything more for me than friendship, so I moved on...
Now, standing at the end of the aisle, ready to walk to my forever, my mind spins with what-ifs. Do I keep moving forward, knowing a man who loves me is at the end? Or do I risk it all, for the one man I’ve always wanted, and hope he wants me in return.

I am a HUGE fan of this author. I totally love her writing style and I really love the characters and stories she tells. It is sorta a laid back storytelling with no bad guys, where some weeks and months are summarized and so the book can reach well into the future. This story happens over about a year and it includes many scenes from the past and Sam and Lauren (Ren's) now.

The story opens up the night before Lauren is marrying her long time boyfriend, Brad. And Brad is so wonderful that I totally get why Ren loved him so much. This is a story about a woman who loves two men at once but one is the one she sees forever with and one she just loves.

Who she chooses well I am not spoiling that. I will tell you, I loved how she really takes her time to figure out where her heart leads her. And Sam well he loves her enough to give her that time to do that.

This story was really very special. As I mentioned it happens over a year period as we get to see the aftermath of the wedding and we watch as Ren really learns where her heart wants her to follow. This story is primarily about learning to follow your heart and sometimes that means you have to make some hard choices but to always to listen to the lyrics of your heart.

From Ice To Flames - The West Brothers Series #2- by A.M. Hargrove

About the Book

One Rule: No More Men.

Two years ago I walked away from a marriage I thought would last forever and all I got from it was Dick …

and I don’t mean the one between my stupid ex’s legs.

I’m talking about the one hundred fifty pound furry dog said ex dropped off at my doorstep.

But I’d take Dick over any man, any day.

So why did I resemble my dog, panting and drooling, whenever I ran into Hudson West, my sexy new neighbor?

True, the gorgeous veterinarian was hotter than sin.

And my new roommate only made it impossible for me to avoid conversation with a man I didn’t need.

Until tragedy struck and some jerk decided to run Dick down.

It was hotter than sin Hudson who came to his rescue.

Then it became impossible to ignore him.

It was only supposed to be a fling, a quickie, a one and done.

We both had reasons to keep it that way … my one rule and his five-year-old son.

Except things didn’t quite work out that way.

One turned into two, then three, annnnd you get the picture.

Before we knew it, he gave me a lot more than puppies and fairy tales.

And that stupid rule?

I should’ve stuck to it because now more than my heart was at risk.

This is book 2 in a series, of the West Brothers which I did not realize when I started reading it. But it is just as wonderful as the first book From Ashes to Flames. This book though easily stands alone.

This is Hudson West's story and he is a single dad to the cutest little boy. He meets his neighbor, Milly, who is a few years older than him and newly divorced but who has the HUGEST dog named Dick or shall I say Big Dick.

His son falls hard for Dick and that is really how the two start connecting and becoming friends and more. Milly is new to NY after dumping her ex and has a job as a fundraiser working with Hudson's mom and dad. So it was  fun for both to discover this familial connection.

This book was really sweet, romantic and extremely HOT!! Dick provided lots of fun and humor to the story and I loved how Hudson and Milly really are there for each other through life. The first book was beyond great and this book was equally as wonderful.

This book was simply amazing. I have read this entire series, this is book 10 in the series but it stands alone. That said it brings all our favorite characters back as the Sockeyes are eyeing the Stanley Cup. If you have read this series then you know what a big deal that it is.

This story features Marina who is an ice skater who failed at the gold and did it in a terribly humiliating way so much so that the American public hates her. Drew is one of the best skaters on the Sock Eyes but between a controlling dad and a lot of guilt about his deceased brother her has lost his love of the game. The problem is the team needs Drew to win the cup and that is where Marina comes in. She has been hired to teach the players figure ice skating moves.

This was a hockey intense story as we watch the team head to the finals. Meaning if you don't want to read about hockey you  will get a little bored. I loved how we also get to see the figure skating aspect and how it relates to hockey.

Marina and Drew are in heavy lust but their romance is very forbidden as she is one of his coaches and her past mistakes. But I loved how despite a relationship causing trouble the Drew decides he wants her and he goes all in. But Marina is afraid and she needs to learn to take the risk for love.

I loved this book so much and I loved the ending so much. I love how the series comes full circle in this story and kudos to the author for a wonderful story to end it all.

EXCERPT

I stopped in the doorway, propping my shoulder against the jamb. Then I did what I’d done every night for the past four and a half years. I looked to that picture on her nightstand, feeling that familiar swell in my chest at the sight of it. Then I turned my gaze to her and watched as she lay on her stomach, stretched across our bed with her feet kicked up in the air while she scrawled in that old leather-bound journal I’d bought her years ago. It was something she’d done every night since we found it in a box in that storage building, taking a few minutes to herself to recount her day on paper. It was her own personal quiet time that she loved, and I always made sure to give her the privacy she needed to do it. As if sensing my presence, she turned her head and hit me with a beaming smile. “Hey.” “Hey, baby. Am I interrupting?” “Nope,” she answered, using the ribbon to mark her page and flipping the journal closed. “All done. Will go down okay?” “Out like a light.” She bit her bottom lip and lowered her eyelids to half-mast as she pushed up and sat back on her haunches. The pale purple nightie she was wearing teased at all the beauty that lay beneath. “Perfect, ’cause I’m in the mood to play.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That's why God created central air, after all.

Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy--she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says.

In addition to being a wife and mom, she's also a wino, coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books--romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it's a passion...there's a difference. Not that she'd expect a boy to understand.

Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.

This is the final book for the rock star band and it ends wonderfully and ties up all the loose ends. This is Mace/Mason and Lyla's story and it starts in the beginning of their relationship. The two grow up together with Will and Lyla being brother and sister and Mace the best friend to Will.

Mace and Lyla fall in love young but he breaks her heart and she moves on to the man that she eventually marries. To be honest Mace is an idiot and he betrays her in a way I was so happy she moves on. But as the years go by, Mace falls harder and hurts a lot as Lyla moves in and even marries another man. To comfort himself he turns to alcohol.

Lyla meanwhile ends up in a bad marriage. And even an abusive relationship. At one point it gets really bad and I want to warn any readers that there was one scene which was hard to read as I really loved Lyla. That said she leaves her husband and ends up back home, single and living with Will, when a tradegy occurs.

None of these are spoilers as the story has played out in all the books in the series and Will's death effected all of them. Not as it does Mace and Lyla and let me tell you Lyla is one tough cookie. She has had a hard life and she is one big fighter, I am not sure I would have made it like she did. So be ready for lots of angyst in this book.

After Will's death Mace spirals to the point that the band calls in Lyla to help Mace and that is when the story takes off. I loved that Mace has to work hard for himself and Lyla helps him find a way to solve his own problems while supporting him and he has to learn to do the same thing.

These two always had love but they really have to learn how to love and how to forgive the past. This was a really amazing finish to the series and I truly loved every minute of it.

I have read this entire series and I really encourage you to read the whole series as some things you might not understand if you don't start at the first book. But that said this story goes through Mace and Lyla's past as if you are experiencing it, both the past and the  now and so it also easily stands alone.

Excerpt:

The force of his energy nearly sucks the life right out of me. “Hi.” “Hi,” I say in return, hoping my voice sounds calm. My breath catches when he unexpectedly entwines his hand in my hair and rubs the back of my neck. Lightening shoots through my body, the slight touch of his hands triggering a river of goose bumps all along my skin. His bold move only serves to turn me on even more. “Did you feel that?” he asks, his voice echoing my own surprise over my body’s reaction to his simple touch. I bite my lower lip, refusing to answer. I lock eyes with him. My reaction seems to annoy him, and he tugs on my hair, bringing his lips a breath away from mine. I gasp in longing. I want to feel those lips on mine more than anything. “Answer me,” he growls, his eyes feral. I still don’t want to. I know I’m playing with something I don’t understand—a chemical reaction…with a man I don’t even know. His grip slackens, and his hand begins to rub my neck. His long fingers move down the top of my spine to where the zipper begins on my dress. He grabs hold of it and begins to toy with it, like he might unzip me right there in front of the entire room. Not that they even notice. Or care. A quick glance around shows me the exact scene I glimpsed the second I walked in. Except now, Kerri is sandwiched between the two blonds, smiling coquettishly like she doesn’t know which one to pick. When I look back up at my mystery man, his smile is possessive. “You’re coming with me.” Wild_Teaser3.jpg

Beware this book ends on a cliff! This book appears to be a serial and I did not know that going in. If you love books with cliffs or where you read part one etc it was very well written and I really enjoyed it. But I typically try to avoid cliffs so I did not know it was coming.

This is the story about Wylder and Jamie Donavon. They meet without names at a sex club so she can lose her virginity. Then they meet again at work. She is 23 and he is 36 and she an intern and he is a world famous movie producer/director.

He chases her and she runs and lets him catch her. That is pretty much the book. I did enjoy it and as I mentioned it is well written and edited and I loved all the characters. We get to hear Jamie's thoughts a few times in the story but I would say it is 80% Wylder's point of view.
