From Smoke To Flames - The West Brothers Series #3 - by A.M. Hargrove

About the Book

They say there’s a fine line between love and hate. Ours was a mile wide.

To put it bluntly, my life sucked.
When I finally got up the courage to divorce my jerk of a husband, never in a million years did I imagine his prick of an attorney would gain him full custody of my daughter.
My scant two weekend visits per month killed me.
And my ex made it as difficult as possible on me every single time.
So imagine my shock when said attorney’s name appeared at the top of the list at the in-patient substance abuse clinic where I worked as a counselor.
My list.
The first thing that occurred was I completely lost my Zen.
Then my blood boiled.
Then his chart flew across the room and slammed into the wall.
How could this possibly be happening?
Karma couldn’t be this cruel.
How in the world could I be an empathetic abuse counselor to the cocky Pearson West who destroyed my life?
I would rather become an addict myself, or better yet, strangle him first.

This story was VERY different than I expected and to be honest there were parts that turned my stomache and even gave me nightmares. It is VERY well written. Its plot is extremely intense and it is really a very different romance than any other in this series.

Some things to be pre-warned about incase they are a sensitive subject for you, Pearson is a drug addict at the start of this story and he hits the bottom before he gets help so if drug addiction is an issue for you, be warned. This story also features an abusive former spouse and he is very nasty in this story, he also has custody of the female lead, Rose's daughter so that's also something to beware of.

Pearson is our male lead and he is the brother of the other male leads in other books in this series. He is the baby and also a lawyer. He handles stress with drugs and he only gets help after he overdoses in the first chapter.

This leads him to a drug addiction program and Rose is assigned him as a patient as she is a drug counselor. SHE HATES him because he helped her abusive ex get FULL custody of her young daughter. And she hates him with a passion and I loved this aspect of the story.

Eventually Pearson and Rose come to ahead and they both realise they need help and each one can help the other. This was when the story got pretty great. It is a very slow burn story with them being there for the other and becoming good friends and even roomies.

Rose's ex is the devil and I don't say that lightly. I cannot spoil what happens but I HATED him so much and he gave me nightmares. How any judge could give him full custody I don't understand. That said this was an intense and wonderfully written with characters I fell in love with.
