The Sound of Serendipity by Cynthia A. Rodriguez

 ABOUT THE BOOK

Emerson Kingsley fell in love on a Central Park bench. After months of watching serial dater Maddox Bailey from afar, the quiet heiress couldn’t help herself. She believes that the moment they meet will be spectacular—that she could be the one to slow him down—if she ever finds the nerve to speak to him. Until the day the universe places them in the same New York City taxicab and Emerson realizes that her daydreams are too far from her reality.

When she learns Maddox is her newest employee at her father’s recording label, she fights her desires and tries to ignore his disarming smile. But even Emerson can’t deny that real-life Maddox is better than anything she could’ve dreamed—sexy, passionate, and full of possibilities.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Cynthia hates writing her own bio. In her down-time, you can find her watching movies, ranging anywhere from classic to action flicks (she has a weakness for Marvel adaptations), and reading any novel she can get her hands on.

This is my first book by this author and I did enjoy it. It is well written, has very interesting characters and a fascinating story to tell. For me this stories theme seemed to be about her father. Emerson, the female lead has a VERY complicated relationship with her father. Yes their is romance and lots of sex with the male lead, Maddox but this story is in her POV only. We never hear from Maddox at all in this story. It is largely Emerson's journey and its about her growing up, finding love and finding acceptance from her father.

Emerson is a people watcher. She is shy, quiet and very young. She is 23 to Maddox's 34 and sometimes it felt like she was way too young for him. She is a runner. Some of that is her father sending her away when her mother dies and some of it is hurt from a previous relationship. Its what she knows and so when life gets  too much she runs away and she runs out on Maddox and her friend, Hollis a lot.

This story takes place in the music business. Emerson is the daughter of a man who has his own music production company. She adores music but her destiny is the run the company when her dad retires. Her best friend Hollis works and lives with her. He knows her best of everyone and he was a wonderful support system for her. At times I thought  Em suffered from depression. She locks herself in her room a lot and uses it to escape from life.

Maddox is someone she watches in the park. Not really like a stalker more of that  he entertains her.. He ends up sharing a cab with her one day and that starts their serendipity story when he ends up working for her at her company. At times I did not like Maddox. I felt he used her attraction to him to manipulate her. I also felt he tried to make her jealous with how he treats this other woman in HR.

But Emerson shines in this story and its what kept me reading this story as I watched her grow and change and decide what she needed and wanted in her life and her relationship with her father. I really found it a fascinating story and enjoyed it a lot. But it was more about chick lit for me than the romance angle.

“You’re not a dream, are you?”

His lips tip up in an arrogant smile. “Well, in what context are you

referring?”

Why is his accent so damn sexy? I mean, he looks like that, and he

sounds sexy, as well? Inconceivable.

“This is the most bizarre conversation I’ve ever had. And trust me

when I say I’ve had some crazy encounters. What are you doing here?”

“I told you,” he says, setting the rag on the counter and walking

around to me once more. “I want to take you to dinner. Or somewhere.

I’d like to get to know you better, Aspen.”

I lick my lips. He’s so close now, I can feel the heat of him. He

would scramble the brains of any warm-blooded woman.

But I haven’t flirted with a man in years. And I certainly haven’t

entertained the idea of dating one. Or, better yet, having sex with

one. But with Callum standing mere feet away, that’s precisely what

I’m thinking.

“You surprise me,” I admit in a soft voice.

“How’s that?”

“You cleaned those tables without batting an eye.”

“I’ve cleaned far worse, I can assure you.” I tilt my head, watching

him. I can see his pulse in his neck.

 “You’re a prince.”

He narrows his eyes and moves in closer, not touching me but certainly

crowding. He smells like mint and sunshine.

“I’m just a man, Aspen.” His lips graze my cheek. “A man very taken

with you, I might add.”

I swallow hard. Holy shit. My breathing comes harder, and an ache sets

up shop in my very core.

I want him.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so attracted to a man before. Not even

Greg. No one.

And if I ponder that for too long, the guilt will likely set in.

Instead, I turn my head and brush my nose over his jawline.

I want him to touch me. I want to feel things that have been missing

from my life for years. Suddenly, I want it with this perfect

stranger.

“Aspen,” he whispers.

“Yes.”

“Tell me you don’t feel this.”

I swallow again. “I can’t.”

He growls as he plunges his hands into my hair and closes his lips

over mine in the kiss of the century. His moves are smooth and sure.

Assertive.

That’s what Callum is: confident.

But before the kiss goes any further, he backs up and stares down at

me with intense brown eyes. “I can’t do what I want to you here. All

of bloody Montana could look through those windows, and I won’t have

you caught in a scandal.”

“Office,” I reply immediately. With his hand in mine, I lead him

through to the back of the café and my personal space there. It’s not

fancy, but it’s private.

“Brilliant,” he says as he shuts the door behind him.

He turns his head to the side and he’s looking at me so deeply, I’m trying to hide my true feelings from him.  “You think friends with benefits would be different? How?”
I shrug my shoulders.  “Well, because you’d know I’m emotionally messed up and that what we have could fizzle out, but at least we’d still be friends because we’d both know we are in it to… you know, help each other out.”
Austin laughs, and I’ve never been more grateful to hear it, but he sombers quickly and looks at me skeptically.  “I’ve never known you to be a friend with benefits type of woman.”
My heart is hammering in my chest.  “Well, you and I both know you’ve never been the settling down type anyway. Who better to try out the friends with benefits thing with than you?”
We’re still holding hands, and his thumb rubs over my palm in a slow, circular motion. We both watch our hands and when he looks up, I meet his gaze, holding my breath.
Finally, he mutters softly, “If that’s the only way I can have you, that’s fine.”

This is my first time reading this author and I adored this story. It is VERY HOT. Lots of sex scenes so you have been warned. But a really wonderful story about two besties who have loved each other for years but never realised it.

Austin and Laney are true besties no matter what. She has been in a relationship but when it ends she moves back home and needs a job and Austin gives her one. He also starts to feel attracted to her and so he dumps his current date and is all in with Laney. But he has to convince her...

This is a novella sized story but also a hot and fun romance and I loved all the characters except the exes.

Temptation on Ocean Drive, A heart-stirring novel of unrequited love and second chances by New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst is live!

Young widow Bella Sunshine-Caldwell is focused only on raising her daughter and running the family business, Sunshine Bridal. There’s no time for romance—especially with her fellow wedding planner, Gabe, whom she’s growing increasingly attracted to. He’s too enterprising to stay in Cape May for long, anyway. Every woman in town has her sights on Gabe Garcia. The only woman he has eyes for doesn’t seem interested. All he wants is to fall in love, be a father, and settle down. As he and Bella work together on a magical winter wedding, the distance between them closes, the nights grow warmer, and Bella might be seeing Gabe for who he really is: a man worth the effort.

He repeated the question. “I need to know. Why was it easier not to believe me?”

This time, she didn’t hesitate. “Because then I could pretend you weren’t the man I really wanted.”

“And do you? Want me?”

She jerked back. Her tongue slipped out to wet her bottom lip. Her voice was barely a whisper. “Yes.”

He muttered a curse. Then leaned forward, his hand cupping her chin. “I want to kiss you, Bella. I’ve been wanting to kiss you forever, but I need to know it’s okay.”

She stared at him, pupils dilated, ragged breaths panting from her lips, and he knew this moment would be carved out in his mind—the first time he saw her face reflect her open want for him. She gave a tiny nod.

He moved closer. His lips stopped an inch from hers. “No. You need to say it.”

“Yes. Kiss me, Gabe.”

His mouth covered hers.

This is book 2 in the series and it looked like it would be amazing and it so is. Gabe works at the bridal company with Bella. He fell in love with her the second he met her. But she is a widow with a young daughter and well she really loved her husband and so his death is something that she is having a tough time moving on from.

Bella in this book has two issues.
1. She really loved her husband and while she knows she needs to move on, she was so devestated that its hard to open herself to that kind of pain again.

2. She believes Gabe is so great that he will never stay in their small bridal company and so she believes that eventually he will leave anyways.

What I loved about this story was Gabe. he is an awesome character and he wants Bella so badly. I loved how great he is with her, her family, her daughter and how much he loves his job. He wants Bella so badly and loves her so much and he really tries to get her to see that.

The only part I hated about this story was the side story with Dana but while it was a needed part of this story, to get Bella to move on, I hated those scenes.

Backup Plan by Emily Goodwin

ABOUT THE BOOK

Backup Plan by New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author, Emily Goodwin is now live!

When we were only kids, Sam Harris and I made a promise we'd marry each other if we were still single when we turned thirty. Well, my thirtieth birthday has come and gone and I'm still as single as ever.

And as far as I know, so is Sam.

But it's been ages since we've seen each other, and after what he did to me our senior year of college, I wouldn't put his ring on my finger even if he begged me to marry him. Never mind his devilish good looks. Or the fact that the playboy partier is a doctor now.

Nope, I'm sticking to my guns with this, and when I go back to my hometown of Silver Ridge for the first time in years, I won't pay him the slightest bit of attention. Well...until he convinces me to go out for drinks to catch up. I knew it was a bad idea the moment I agreed to it.

And then he brings up our childhood promise.

It might be fun and games to him, but it's not to me. Because as much a I don't want to admit it, Sam has always been my first choice. And I don't want to be nothing more than his backup plan.

I have been very excited about this book because I loved the Harris Brothers series. If you read Cheat Codes and End Game,  you know Sam as Archer’s roommate who likes to walk around naked.  This is his story. Sam and Chloe were really great friends as teens.

This story is their second chance but it ends on a cliff hanger and well I HATE cliffs. I am not good at waiting and so I want to warn you this book ends at a cliff. When I signed up to review this story, I did not know this. The second book will come out in late Oct/November.

This is a small town romance, and Sam is definitely swoon-worthy, he is one hot doctor, This story is also filled with teen angst and adult drama with some great chemistry between Sam and Chloe.

I adored Chloe, she is sorta a nerd with a huge heart and she had a major thing for Sam. This is an awesome 2nd chance at romance in small town with a hot doctor and friends to lovers storyline with a big cliff hanger and Chloe is so sassy but so real at the same time  that I loved meeting her. Can't wait for the next book Desperate Times to come out.

First came the director yelling, “Action! Next came the actual acting. Last came . . . the end scene.Or at least, that was what I liked to call my job as a publicist to Hollywood’s elite. If my client hit it big, I was the one who’d made that possible. And while being on call twenty-four seven meant I was chronically single, I was fine with that.

I’d been in a serious relationship once and had ultimately discovered that I wasn’t cut out for commitment or being tied down or living in a small town.I needed lights and excitement, paparazzi and enough traffic that the air always smelled faintly of exhaust.I definitely didn’t need one Aaron Weaver—my ex-boyfriend and current occupant of my former home and very, very small town in Utah—tying me down or making me feel like the world’s biggest jerk, just because I wanted my life to be something more than open fields and cow patties.

But then I had to leave L.A. and go home to my father, to my small town . . . to Aaron. And I discovered there might be much more to him than I’d ever expected. In fact, I discovered that I might have missed out on the best end scene of my life by letting him go at all.

This is book 4 in a series and the only one I have read. That said I easily followed the story and so I think it can easily stand alone.

This is an awesome novella sized romance with a 2nd chance at love 10 years later. Maggie and Aaron were high school sweethearts but he loved their hometown and she hated it. She asks him to go with her but he refuses and so they have not seen each other in 10 years until he calls and tells her that her dad hurt himself.

She rushes home but her dad treats her so bad that she gets angry and tells Aaron off and makes him start to really look and think about their past and he decides he wants a 2nd chance...bbut does Maggie agree? Is she even single?

I adored this romance and loved every second of it.

This is my first book by this author and she writes sex scenes very well. I felt there were way too many sex scenes in this book and at some point I felt myself skimming because it was sex scene upon sex scene. But then the book found a plot and I started to enjoy the story more. I just want to warn you not to get bogged down with all the sex scenes and that this book does have a story to tell.

Skye and Colt meet at a bar when she is out on a date with a dad at the school she works at. He is a BAD date and so she ends up going home with Colt and we get sex scene #1. Personally I did not like that about this story. Leaving with another guy after a bad date and having sex/one night stand seemed in very bad taste.

What Skye doesn't know is that Colt is a famous football player and so there are lotsa pictures. She works at a school where they care about image and so starts the issues with her relationship with Colt.

Colt in my opinion was a big baby. He seemed very immature and he didn't seem to grasp that she could lose her job over this. That said he is a good guy. He really cares about Skye and he is very loyal to her. But he also lives in a very different world than she does.

I had many issues with this story, but there is a character in this story, Gray and I adored him. He stole the book in my opinion and his book is next and while I did not love this book, I cannot wait for his story. We get a glance of it at the end of this story and it looks fascinating.

Royal Protectors: Axel - Royal Protectors Book 3 - by Kat Mizera

Royal Protectors: Axel by Kat Mizera is now live!

As a Royal Protector, I can’t resist a damsel in distress...

Being an official bodyguard to the royal family of Limaj, isn’t just my job, it’s who I am. With lives depending on me, love isn’t on my duty roster. Until I’m called in to protect a civilian. Smart, sexy and way too naïve for her own good... Solange is making me want things I shouldn’t.

When we’re together, I’m consumed. And now that I have her, there’s no going back. Getting lost in her blue eyes could lead me down a dangerous path... but I’m prepared to protect what’s mine. With a new enemy in Limaj and traitor among us... both our lives are at stake. The problem is my loyalty. I’ve sworn an oath to defend the royal family at all costs. What if the cost is her?

About the Author:

USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she's called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She's never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she'd probably choose the west coast.

A typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max), Kat can usually be found scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) - traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible.
Kat's been a working freelance writer for nearly 30 years. She sold her first article--a review of a rock concert--for $10 in 1985. Since then she's been an entertainment journalist, waitress, bartender, legal assistant, food critic, magazine editor, substitute teacher, and sports writer. She also spent some time working at A & M Records in Los Angeles.

As you can guess from her Las Vegas Sidewinders series, Kat loves hockey and occasionally writes articles about her favorite team, the Florida Panthers. The rest of the time, she writes novels: sexy, romantic fiction that she hopes makes you as happy as it makes her. There's something enticing about hockey players and romance...

Connect with Kat:

This is book 3 in the series but its more a thriller/adventure than  romance and yet I come to the author for romance. So while I did enjoy the book, it didn't give me all the feels that I typically want in a romance.

That said it was a wonderful story and I am really impressed with the author imagination and writing in this story. But if you want romance, this is not the book for that. If you want a really amazing adventure then you will adore this story.

This story takes place mostly in Limaj and various other cities around Limaj. We get a lot of Eric, Xander, Sander time too, and some of their women. We also learn more about the school that is being constructed.

This story begins when Solange, our 24 year old heroine, is hiding in a closet and calls Xander for help. Her brother and parents are being beat up and she thinks they might be dead. And so Xander sends her help in the way of Axel.

I really loved Solange a lot. She is one tough woman and she loves her family so much that she has given up her future by staying in Limaj and helping her parents in their cafe. Even after she is rescued, she doesn't abandone them.

That said I kinda hated her family. They treat her terribly. Her parents and brother are real pieces of work and so I kinda hated them. Axel and his friends are her savior and they really try to help her.

A lot of things happen in this story and it was a really fun adventure and so I am trying not to spoil it. It takes place in this make believe world the author created and I really enjoyed the story, but for readers you should know its more of an adventure with good guys and bad guys and some violence but I loved how the author concluded the story.
