Southern Seducer By Jessica Peterson

Southern Seducer by Jessica Peterson  is now live!

I've done a lot of stupid stuff in my life. But sleeping with my best friend tops the list.

Annabel and I have been close since college. When I left school to play pro football, she was there. While I collected Super Bowl rings and cars worth more than the house I grew up in--she was there.

I always assumed we'd end up together. Everyone did.

But by the time I retired from football, Bel was married. I thought I'd missed my shot at love.

So I buried myself in my new job as CEO of Blue Mountain Farm, a five-star resort my family and I built in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. It seems like a good place to be alone with the secret I have to keep from her.

Now Bel is a divorced single mom, struggling to raise her daughter on her own--and it's my turn to be there for her.

So I invite her and the baby up to the resort for some much needed R&R.

Then, in a moment of bonfire-and-bourbon induced weakness, I kiss her.

And the fallout could ruin everything.

SOUTHERN SEDUCER is a full length, standalone novel. It is the first book in the all new North Carolina Highland series.

This is the start of a brand new series by this author who writes with southern settings. This looks to be a very fun series and we can start to see the couples that will come in future books and I am really looking forward to those stories.

This first story is not a light romance. It is very well written but it deals with some very serious subjects. It was a little too much for me and so while it is well written and I enjoyed meeting the characters for future books, I did not love this first story. To some degree I felt the main characters did not always appreciate what they have. Now I have never been depressed or had PPD so maybe I am not that sympathetic but as I said I look for fun in my romances and this was not a fun or light story.

Beau and Annabel met in college when they were young and have been friends for over 17 years. They have weathered Beau's NFL career and Bel's bad marriage and now she is a new mom and is facing a crisis with suffering from Post Partum Depression.

Her best friend Beau offers her a free vacation in North Carolina and she packs her mother and daughter for the adventure.  What she discovers is that she is not the only one facing fears and depression about the future. (Beau has a secret and I am not spoiling that)

The two have always crushed on each other but were never single at the same time  until now and she they embark and a very lusty relationship. But they have full lives in other cities and Beau cannot see a future to share with Bel.

This is my issue with this book, I felt Beau was awful to Bel. She is so blessed. She has this beautiful child and yes its hard. Its VERY hard to be a new mom. And yes she is depressed but she is getting the help she needs and I the author tackled this subject with dignity and touched on a very sensitive subject for many women. Had this been the only issue in this story I would have loved it.

My issue with this story relates to Beau's depression. He has a life and I felt he did not appreciate what a gift he was given. He refuses to make any plans to be in Bel's life and his final decision really floored me and made me feel that he did not appreciate all the blessings he was given. He only sees the bad and not the good and I had a hard time loving him for this reason. Had he been depressed about his entire life and business I would have been more understanding but its about the life he could have with Bel and her child that I did not grasp.

That said I Loved his whole family and I adored Bel and little Maisie. And I cannot wait to read Milley and Samuel's romances.
