Good Guys Don't Lie by Micalea Smeltzer

Good Guys Don't Lie by Micalea Smeltzer is now live!

ABOUT THE BOOK

I've been nothing but a failure to my parents my entire life. I know I'll never live up to their level of perfection, but it doesn't matter. Especially, when I'm about to fail the same class twice.

It seems like I'm doomed until my professor tells me he knows the perfect guy to tutor me—if he'll agree.

Cree Madison is the star player on the hockey team, bound for NHL superstardom, and my last hope. I'm willing to do almost anything for his help.

When I meet up with him, his eyes light up and he says, "I've been looking for you."

Only I don't know him, and I've never met him before now.

I'm willing to pretend to be whoever he wants me to be if it means I pass this class.

But lies have a way of getting out of hand and neither one of us is prepared for the fallout when everything comes to light.

This book was a really different one in the series and while it was a deep book and dealt with lots of heavier issues, it was also so well done that I really loved it.  The star of the story is Cree, who we met in other books in the series who in this book is a senior. Its sort of a part two for this series as the previous characters in the previous books have all graduated and gone off to lead their adult lives. So if you have not read this series before, this is a great starter book.

Cree is a star student and also a star hockey player. This is his senior year and he is wealthy and lives off campus with his friends and baby sister. The year before he met this girl and he has been looking for her, at every party and all his classes and he has never found her.

One day he looks up and there she is, but she thinks he is her new tutor and she has no idea she has ever met him before. And thats how he meets Orphelia.

Orphelia suffers from social anxiety and and is autistic. She has a hard time with college life and making friends and she desperately needs help in her English class to pass and so when she meets Cree and he seems to know her, she thinks he is her new tutor and a friendship is born.

This story deals with anxiety and how Orphelia deals with life as a college student. Honestly I did not see a lot of signs of her Autism, but she has a bad case of social anxiety. I love how she created a life away from home and she created a life that made her secure. I also loved that Cree is so accepting of her issues and he really sees what is important and what is not.

This couple just worked so well as friends and a couple. It also is a bit of slow burn as Cree really gets to know Orphelia and to understand her before he ever lets her know how he feels about her. And Orphelia is just such an honest person with Cree and has learned how to face life, that I loved her as well.
