 This story is told in two parts. It starts out when Carolina is 17/18 and West is close in age to her. They are both seniors in high school and it takes place the summer before high school and then continues during their senior year. Then it picks up two years later. If you love angst, then you will adore this book because their is a lot of drama,  angst and bullying (not really by West) and it was so good!

Carolina is 17 when they meet on a hot summer night in Paris. She is a dancer who has lived in Europe for years by herself to avoid the Lancaster family. She does not like to be touched and she tries to avoid excess emotions. Her escape has always been dancing.

West is the only child of wealthy parents. He attends Lancaster Prep in NY and knows Carolina's brother from school. He is a senior in high school but he lies when he meets Carolina and tells her that he has graduated high school. 

When their lives intersect one night in Paris they have a fun adventure. Things would have ended there if Carolina did not get sent back home to NY and to Lancaster Prep Boarding School. 

 On the first day of school guess who Carlina runs into? And she discovers West's lies and when she treats him badly, he treats her badly and she ends up becoming a victim of bullying from the popular kids. 

What's different about this book is that Carolina is a Lancaster and that means something. In addition she is one tough cookie and the kids at Lancaster have no idea what to do with her. There is drama, bullying, hot times with West, secrets and so much angst.

The second part of the book was my favorite part. It starts at Whit and Summers wedding where West is a guest because his mom is Sylvia Lancaster's new bestie. If you know anything about Sylvie, well she is bad news. This was not a wonderful reunion, but it is a starting point for West to try and reunite with Carolina. Can she forgive him for their past and what about her dancing career?

In this part of the book we also get to see all the Lancaster kids come together as they unite against Sylvia. I loved that we get to see some awesome moments with Whit, Summer and Sylvie.
