“Let me do the dirty work from time to time. You’re mine, Ali

ce. That means I’ll protect you from anyone, even if you don’t want me to. I’ll protect you especially when you don’t want me to because it’s when you need it most.” Before I can reply, he steps right in front of me. “You understand? You are mine.”

I shake my head. “You’re stubborn and possessive.”

“Sounds like I’m a catch.”

“I didn’t mean those as compliments,” I inform him, crossing my arms over my chest.

“That’s how they sounded to me.”

“How do you figure?”

“You can easily rephrase that to determined and protective. Both positive traits.”

Despite my annoyance, my lips twitch with a hint of a smile.

“I won’t apologize for wanting to protect you.”

“I wasn’t really expecting you to,” I reply, disarmed by his passion and honesty. “But I’m warning you, I’m still mad at you.”

“I’m counting on it, darling. In fact, hold on to the anger until we get home. Unless you want to leave now?”

“No, the event isn’t over.” I’m a little suspicious of his sudden good mood. “Why do you want me to hold on to the anger?”

“Because there’s a kind of sex I’m dying to try with you.”

“What kind is that?”

He wiggles his eyebrows, leaning in. “Make-up sex.”

I have read this entire series and really like them a lot. I did not read the last book about the brother Christopher and I did not feel like I missed anything. This book can easily stand alone though I would suggest starting at least with the first book as that will help you know the bck history on the Bennett's and all the characters.

This story is about Alice Benett and her brother's best friend, Nate. Nate has not been featured in the series yet but he is a tv exec who grew up with the Bennett's. I loved the flash backs highlighting his and Alice's teen age years. Both Alice and Nate have had flirtation and crush for years and they never went there with the other.

But now Nate is in town, and well they decide to explore it when Nate seems to get a local job after his dream job falls through.Nate is very alpha and well Alice is too. She owns 3 restaurants and loves to feed everyone. Her and Nate, together are very sweet and romantic and the relationship does not bother anyone in her family.

There are some really fun and sweet family moments in this story and I really love this series because I love the family scenes. I love how natural Nate and Alice are together and how well the two mesh together.

You can see the writing on the wall with the whole dream job eventually falling into Nate's lap. What happens made for a wonderful way to make Nate face his real feelings and we see how much Nate loves Alice and vice versa.

While I mostly loved the story, I felt sometimes we were told more about the story than experiencing it. And I felt that time went by sometimes way too fast. Many chapters open with 2 weeks later or 3 weeks had gone by. But none of those things took away from Nate and Alice who were perfect for each other and whose story I really enjoyed.
