FAVORITE MISTAKE - Redemption Series #8 We - By Jessica Prince (Lyric and Holton)

He was the town’s golden boy, their all-American hero. But there was a side of him he’d only shown her.

When Lyric Jackson stopped for gas in Redemption, Tennessee, she wasn’t sure what to think of the small town nestled in the middle of the Smoky Mountains. Then she got one look at Holton Clarke, saw that charming smile, and fell instantly. One night with the man in uniform sparked an ember of hope, but things didn’t quite end how she’d expected.

All Holton Clarke ever wanted to do was protect the people he cares about. He thought he’d be able to do that better as a deputy for his hometown, but one call turned his whole world and everything he thought he knew upside down. Including what he’d hoped for his future with a certain sassy librarian.

But when danger from Lyric’s past comes calling, Holton has to put his fears and insecurities to the side in order to save the woman who has gotten under his skin, but she refuses to make it easy, or give him a second chance. Now she’s under his roof, sharing his bed, and throwing him attitude and dirty looks every chance she gets.

She might claim that nothing is ever going to happen between them, but that one night they’d shared was his favorite mistake ever, and he has every intention of repeating it for the rest of his life.

SLOW BURN

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That’s why God created central air, after all.

Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy–she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says.

In addition to being a wife and mom, she’s also a wino, a coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books–romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it’s a passion…there’s a difference. Not that she’d expect a boy to understand.

Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

We meet Holton and Lyric in the previous book featuring Deva, SLOW BURN. Deva meets Lyric at the library, and they become fast friends - best friends. They are both new to town and they both come from painful pasts and family members. We also meet Holton in that book as he kisses Deva, flirts with her and tries to date her. So, when I heard this book was about him and Lyric, I was wondering how the author would make it work.

These two share a one night stand and after that Holton is pretty horrible. He tries to make up for it but well Lyric makes him work very hard for her and a second chance.

There is a bit of suspense as someone is after Lyric and Holton as a police officer tries to protect her. In the process of doing that he also tries to get her to give him a second chance because she won't leave his head.

There is a side character in this story I LOVED as well. She was so awesome and I adored how Lyric welcomed her when they save each other.

This was one of my favorites in this series. It's one I know I will re-read over and over because I found Lyric and Holton's story so romantic. It really gave me all the feels.
