Hendrix: A Pittsburgh Titans - by Sawyer Bennett (Hendrix and Stevie)

★★ New hockey romance standalone from Sawyer Bennett! ★★

Ten minutes.

That’s all hockey hunk Hendrix Bateman is asking of biker bar owner Stevie Kisner.

Ten minutes to convince her to go out on a date with him.

Ten minutes that will change both of their lives forever.

Hendrix is a standalone contemporary hockey romance about finding love where we least expect it, learning from our mistakes, building trust (and keeping it), and some good old fashioned dirty talk.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Hendrix Bateman is one of The Lucky Three , a trio of players who were not on the Titan’s team plane the night it crashed.

Feeling as if he’s been given a second chance, Hendrix is determined to make the most out of his life, but that doesn’t mean he’s not suffering from scars that can’t be seen.

When I lost my Titan brothers in the crash, it was a mixed bag of emotions. I was devastated and grief stricken, but I was also grateful to be alive. Yeah, that might cause a little — okay, a lot of — guilt, but now I’m determined to live each day as if it’s my last.

A night out with friends puts me in the crosshairs of Stevie  Kisner — the devastatingly beautiful bar owner with a sharp tongue and a fire in her eyes that lets me know she has zero tolerance for guys like me. I’ve never been one to back away from a challenge, so I’m not dissuaded by Stevie’s tough as nails attitude or her big biker dad who looks like he wants to kill me. Fueled by too many shots and the raucous urging of my teammates, I set out to show Stevie I’ve got game both on and off the ice.
While I shouldn’t be looking for anything more than a good time, I can’ t help but be captivated by Stevie. She’s cool as hell and we burn hot together. But the more I get to know her, the more I can tell she’s holding something in reserve, and let’s just say I’ve got some trust issues after my last disastrous attempt at a relationship.
Now I need to decide if I’m going to let my past dictate my future or if I am willing to put my heart on the line to find out if Stevie is exactly what I think she is — my everything.

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is Hendrix's story and he is a well adjusted, happy go lucky guy who plays hockey professionally, has lots of friends, a great family and is bad at picking girlfriends. But he also is no quitter and wants a relationship over a hookup. His latest ex-girlfriend is a perfect example of him trying to make things works even is she was a total wreck.

Stevie is Harlow's (she is dating Stone) best friend and was raised by a biker single dad when her mother left her as a young child. She runs a bar and is a strong and independent woman but also has a bad mom, though she wants a relationship with her. She decides to give Hendrix a shot at her heart when he charms her and beats her at pool and so starts a beautiful relationship.

I felt this book had two themes. One was to cut out toxic people from your life. They are not worth the hassle when all they want to do is take advantage of you and hurt you. Even as a strong a person as Stevie was, she still was vulnerable to her mom, and it was a tough lesson for her to learn.

The second theme I felt this book featured was forgiveness, patience and opening your heart to the right person. That no matter how many chances you give someone, at some point you got to walk away or hear them out and give them the benefit of the doubt. Some people are worth forgiveness and others are just toxic and sometimes that means cutting them form your life.

I did not love the direction the author took this book. You can see where the author is going with the plot, and it totally gave me the willies and made me cringe. However, I felt it made the book more interesting and I loved how the author explored the two themes in relation to Hendrix and Stevie's relationship.
