This book is #2 in the book series but also easily stands alone. It introduces a new character to Magnolia Falls, Ruby, who is the daughter of the towns local bar owner. She is in town to help her father run his bar while he recovers from a heart attack. River is a lawyer and also is very close with her father. He wants to help her with running the bar and visits with her father a lot. Thats how these two end up running into each other throughout the book.
River has a younger brother, Kingston and he is a big part of River's story. He was so cute and friendly and a real sweetheart. River is pretty awesome too but in a very grumpy way. He has a huge heart but he is not super trusting and so it takes a lot for him to show his heart and softness.
In Ruby River finds a matching spirit. Ruby is one tough cookie. She had to be. She has two younger brothers, a mom who complains, never has enough money and is pretty useless as a parent. Luckily for Ruby she always had her dad in her corner. So, she comes back to town with a graduate degree and wanting to help out her dad.
The couple from the first book is also featured in this book and if you read the first book you get to continue and see their very happy ending. The stars of the book are Romeo and Demi. Romeo is also connected the authors previous series about Cottonwood, and we get to visit with those characters too in this book. Demi is also a big part of this book as she and her friends welcome Ruby to town and befriend her.
I really loved this book. It was a lot of fun. Ruby is pretty much at a crossroads and finds a soulmate in River. But being with him means she has to stick around in the town and its not something she ever saw herself doing. I adored how tough she was but also how vulnerable she was at times. I also loved River, he was so cutely grumpy. I loved his relationship with his new secretary and how easy it was to drive him a bit crazy. His grandmother was a hoot and I hope we see more of her in future books.
