Heartbreaker Handoff - Varsity Dads #5 - by Lex Martin (Billy and Roxy)

BLURB

Billy’s not my baby daddy, but he doesn’t mind pretending to be…

I’m a Division 1 cheerleader with hopes of becoming a sports broadcaster. None of my plans for college include getting knocked up by a cheating ex who just got engaged to another girl.

When my father finds out I’m pregnant, he goes ballistic. That’s when my BFF, bad boy Billy Babcock, comes to my rescue and agrees to “take responsibility.”

Billy and I solidify our contract on a napkin—he’ll pretend to be my baby’s father, and I’ll help him clean up his image. The only problem is my father, the football coach, hates Billy. He warned me off dating players a long time ago, and he thinks Billy’s the biggest player out there.

Now that we’re in a “relationship,” Billy thinks we should spend some quality naked time together, but I’m worried about crossing that line. Because athletic guys with big muscles, intricate tattoos, and sexy smirks are my biggest weakness, and Billy ticks off all those boxes.

Can my football player “boyfriend” walk the straight and narrow for me?

Or did I just get handed off from one heartbreaker to another?

Heartbreaker Handoff is an angsty, friends-to-lovers, forbidden romance featuring a sassy cheerleader, who’s about to be a single mother, and a criminally charming football player determined to prove he’s the man for her, one sizzling kiss at a time. Heartbreaker Handoff is a dual POV standalone in the USA Today-bestselling series Varsity Dads.

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is book 5 in the series, but it easily stands alone. We see a few past characters in this story like Charlie but very occasionally. This book stars Roxy and Billy and its exclusively their story. But it also introduces two new characters, Nick and ---. Sorry I can't spoil the her because she is a major character in this story and this book introduces both characters.

What I really liked about this book was it easily could have been a duet. It's really divided into two parts. Each part was awesome, and I love that the author did not make it a duet because I hate those, the waiting kills me. So, for me that was really awesome that it's an all-in-one story. But it is also a long book that will suck you in, so make sure you have plenty of time to read it.

I also loved that the author made this book realistic in relation to pregnancy and especially the giving birth and what happens after. It's hard to have a baby and to go to school as well, it really takes a village, and it is very hard on relationships. The author did not gloss this over and make it all rainbows, she made it very realistic.

This story is about Roxy who is Hispanic, and her father and mother are very happy together. Couple goals I guess you could say. They live locally and she lives on her own at the start of the book. Her father is coach at her college of the football team, and she was a cheer leader until she found out she was pregnant.

So, who's the daddy? At the start of this book, we know its a football player she dated named Ezra who was not faithful and when she goes to tell him he is the daddy, well she gets a HUGE surprise. Sorry, this is a spoiler free review.

Billy is Roxy's best friend, and he also is a football player on her dad's team, but as opposed to Ezra her dad hates him, He has a major crush on Roxy and when she tells him her news, he is 100% there for her.

Things get very complicated very fast in the first part of the story and it was awesome. I cheered, I laughed, and I even cried a few tears with Roxy. The double date with Ezra was like the best ever!

The second part of this book takes place very close to Roxy's due date and I loved that it is realistic. So many books leave this out or make it seem like a baby is a piece of cake. It's not it's very hard, messy and complicated. Add in that you are in school. It's not easy and that's what Roxy and Billy discover.

I really enjoyed this story. There are no other third party in this book and I really loved that. This is 100% Billy and Roxy and I really liked that about this story.
