Faker by Christie Tegan

Marley:
For the right fee, I’ll pretend to be almost anyone

And there are lots of clients—mostly men—who require my services

But behind my confident exterior, I worry about getting called out

And then I do—and by the richest, handsomest, slickest alpha in all of Chicago

Fletcher:
She sank my sale with a smile, some cleavage, and a bat of her lush long lashes

My anger was eclipsed only by my infatuation with her

And then the perfect plan presented itself to me

I seized the day and I’ll get the girl

Marley Jacobs is a faker.

For a living, she pretends to be other people. It’s a job she fell into, and she’s doing well for the first time since moving to Chicago, but in the back of her mind, there’s always the worry that someone, somewhere, will call her out. Marley just prays it’s not the obsessive, crazy boyfriend she fled from almost six years before.

Fletcher Creed has a problem. As a successful businessman from a prominent Chicago family, he’s used to solving problems. But when a mere slip of a girl—make that an exceptionally gorgeous, talented woman—gets in his way, he sets out to turn a liability into an asset. And that asset has assets that happen to be spectacular.

When faker meets financier, sparks fly and trouble follows, but will the end justify the means?

Meet Christie Tegan
Hi, I’m Christie Tegan, and I’m so happy to introduce everyone to my debut romance novel, Faker
Although this is my first novel, I’ve always loved to write—short stories, poetry, songs, email rants, grocery lists, you name it. Having lived in various cities in the US, my plan is to set a novel in each one, starting with Chicago for Faker. After all, you write what you know.

I currently live in Los Angeles with my two dogs and a cat named Horatio. I’m hoping if things go well, I can give up my day job in the corporate world to write full time. That would be my dream goal.

Before I begin this review I want to mention that this is a debut by a brand new author on the scene and its a very original and wonderfully written story. It is a not a light reading type of story. It has a lot of pain but also a lot of triumph for the characters and at times the two major characters Marley and Fletcher don't have all the facts of what is happening, we the reading audience do.

I also want to give a warning to readers who might be sensitive to the subject of rape because the character of Marley is raped. Not inside this story but more in the past. The story describes how it happens and with who and even has her share her pain within the story. Though no rape takes place in the present in this story.

This is a fairly tame story sexually though at one point there is a spanking and its done infront of some bodyguards. To be honest it was my only complaint with this story. It has no elements of BDSM at all in it and no other elements of voyeurism at all, so this scene was really strange in the story and minus that one scene I highly enjoyed this story. I am not sure why it was included in the story and truly I felt Marley should have made Fletcher pay more for this when he apologizes later.

The story was mostly fun. It stars Marley who has a very original career. It takes place in Chicago and she attends high society events with men who hire her to pretend to be a character they invent, it could be anyone, a sister, wife, girlfriend, for a price she portrays a character and she also changes her looks to reflect that character. Hence the name of this story Faker.

Fletcher meets her as she plays a character that ruins a deal for him and then he starts to see her around town in her different identity. He is in  a difficult position because he needs a wife so he decides to hire Marley and marry her to get his inheritance.

There is no cheating in this story but Fletcher has a nasty ex and sometimes photos make the other jealous.

The main plot of this story is a fake marriage as the two main characters get to know each other and fall for each other. While Marley has MANY secrets and an ex who wants to destroy her. Fletcher does not trust anyone or anything and so has to learn to love and trust Marley.

It is an intense story and I really loved it but definitely not light reading. If you like action and drama you will  love this  fast paced story.

This was the first time I read this author but wow I was impressed. I loved the story and I loved the characters nd I loved the length of this story and how the characters really grow in this story.

This is the story about 20 year old Cassie who moves to Florida to nanny for a friend of her cousin. She meets the friends husbands younger brother, Tom, a 26 year old Neurosurgeon. This is the story how the two fall in love and face lifes trials together. It is NOT a story of instalust or love but more about a man who feels things for this younger woman and her him, but who take things slowly as they get to know each other and fall in love.

Along the way Cassie grows up and decides who and what is important in her life and sees who is worthy to be her friends and who is not. She learns what love, life, forgiveness and what friendship really means.

This is a VERY long book. 70+ chapters but it was also really fun and I really enjoyed every moment of this story.

The Billionaire's Fake Fiancee by Annika Martin

The Billionaire's Fake Fiancรฉe, a sexy romantic comedy by New York Times bestselling author Annika Martin.

I’m no Prince Charming, and the last thing I want is a Cinderella.

My instructions were simple: scour the city for a fake fiancรฉe who’s not my type at all. Have her on my jet Monday morning, dressed appropriately for a yacht vacation.

I need a woman believable enough to convince a certain client that I’ve changed my playboy ways…yet nothing like the supermodels and socialites I usually have on my arm.

Somebody too annoying to tempt me—no emotional entanglements, thank you very much. This is business only.

If she’s unfazed by my looks and wealth, all the better.

Should be easy. Right?

Apparently not, because my people go and hire Tabitha. My hairdresser.

What were they thinking? Yes, I said annoying, but I didn’t mean her, the most frustrating woman in the world.

Tabitha is sunshiny. She has a pet hamster. She loves Hello Kitty, and she gets under my skin like nobody else.

As if that’s not bad enough, the minute we step on deck, she thinks that certain people on the yacht are up to something shady—based completely on her soap opera knowledge.

She won’t listen when I tell her she’s being ridiculous.

But as the days go by, I find that we’re actually having fun. And our fake kisses are heating up. And suddenly her wild theories aren’t sounding so strange after all…

Excerpt:
“We need a practice kiss.” My gaze falls to her lips and my mind goes blank. “Did you not read the contract?” I bite out. “This relationship is to be purely platonic.” “Oh, I know. And before you think I’m jonesing to kiss you, please know, I’m just trying to do a professional job at this, and the kiss is important. Because I can tell you right now, when people do the fake engagement ploy and get busted, it’s often because they’re forced to do a first kiss in front of suspicious people. Everybody can tell a first kiss.” “Have you been involved in other fake engagement situations?” I ask. “No, but, you know, it’s a thing. Trust me.” “It’s a thing?” I ask, incredulous. “Well, on soap operas,” she adds. I groan. “Jesus Christ, save me from your ridiculous soap opera wisdom.” “What? There is a lot of life wisdom in soap operas.” I give her a hard look. “And the fact is, with people who have never kissed, there’s a lot of trepidation. They’re like, How do I start off? Where do I put my hands? Which way should I tilt my head?” “Those are not questions that would cross my mind during a kiss. Ever.” “Please. Spare me from the knowledge of what crosses your mind when you kiss a woman,” she says. “I’m just telling you, people aren’t stupid. They’re capable of recognizing a first kiss. We need at least one practice round. Unfortunately.” I swallow. Somewhere down on Wall Street, trading is in full swing. I have rates to check, reports to analyze, spreads to monitor, but the idea of pulling her to me and kissing her crowds all of that out. My hands flex. A practice kiss. I can’t think of a worse idea. “We’re not a couple who enjoys public displays of affection.” She does her playful wince. “Okay, buuuuuut…what happens when they toast our engagement? We can’t exactly shake hands.” Will people do that? Gather around and expect us to kiss in front of them? I focus on the window. The whole idea here was not to be tempted or distracted. “If I decide we need a practice kiss,” I inform her, “then and only then will we have a practice kiss. And I’ll do the kissing.” “It has to be more than a peck,” she says. “Just in case that’s what you’re imagining.” “Rest assured, a kiss from me would be the opposite of a peck.” “The opposite of a peck,” she echoes, as though she finds it funny. “The polar opposite.” My gaze has gone back to her lips. They’d taste like some sort of sugary berry. Her dark hair would be thick and cool in my grip, her ass soft and firm. My mind won’t stop spinning on kissing her, now. “I’m trying to help you pull this off,” she says. “Think of the times you’ve had a first kiss. The wild rush of it. The buzz of it. It’ll be so obvious.” I frown. Who the hell has she been sharing these mind-altering first kisses with? “Don’t worry, I get this is business,” she says. “You’re not at all the type of guy I go for, either.” “No? Do tell—what type of guy do you go for?” “For one, he would scoff at the idea of a private jet. And he would never wear or even possess cufflinks. Or if he did, there’d be a string attached to the cufflinks because he would’ve made them into an awesome toy for little Seymour. That would be a guy for me.” “Sounds like a loser,” I growl.

This was a wonderful, fun, sweet and romantic story with a touch of insta trust and love between the good boy and the tattooed/pierced girl.

Kent is the football player we first meet in Chronicles of a Hot Mess and now he has his own book and we get to meet his entire family. In this story he meets Tabitha at a photo shoot right before her life goes up in flames. He offers her a place to stay and introduces her to his family while the two fall in love.

I loved this story so much that I had to read Chronicles of a Hot Mess and I am so glad I got to read both books because I am love with this authors writing and the characters in this story. Its a little unrealistic in that a football player invites a stranger to move in with him after knowing each other for an hour. But I absolutely loved this story and cannot wait for more.

Bring It Home by Toni Aleo

Bring It Home by Toni Aleo is LIVE!

The Story

Boon Hoenes only has three goals in life. To make Posey Adler his wife, to win the Stanley Cup for the second year in a row, and for Shea Adler to like him. The first, he’s got on lock. The second, he’s well on his way. And the third… Well, two out of three ain’t bad.

About the Author:

My name is Toni Aleo and I’m a total dork.
I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.
I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.

I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably Belle.
… and did I mention I love hockey?

This is NOT a standalone story at all. It is a continuation of the first book and starts right at the ending of the first book Power Play and Posey and Boone are now engaged. What I did not realise then is that their story was not done and this book really answers a lot of the questions I still had at the end of the book.

Boone and Posey are my absolute favorite couple in this series. So far we have three couples in this series and they are my absolute favorite because they are such a sweet and fun loving couple so I absolutely adored this couple. I did re-read the first book Power Play before starting this story and I am so glad I did because it was so much fun to read together.

It was a wonderful ending to their love story and I am so glad the author showed us their future. Power Play is a totally stand alone story, meaning you can read it without reading the other stories in the series but this book should only be read after Power Play.

Heartless King - Standalone book #5 in the Kings of Rittenhouse Series - by Maya Hughes

Blurb

Two blue lines. That means not pregnant, right? Right? Oh, sh*t.

Five years ago, Colm Frost asked me to marry him and I ran. I ran from my painful past too raw and fresh to escape. He was the only one who looked at me like I wasn’t broken and made me believe it. He made me feel it.

Now, he’s the hot, angry, hockey player on the mend.

I’m the physiotherapist who’s supposed to get him back on his feet.

I don’t think our night together was what his doctor prescribed, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t dreamt of him every time I close my eyes. I woke up beside him with my body still singing from the way he fanned the flames of my desire, but I couldn’t stay.

His lips on my neck. His hands wrapped around my waist. His impressive...ahem, touch leaving me breathless.

One moment of wild inhibition and it’s come back to bite me in the butt. Kind of like he did that night.

But a baby? Our night was supposed to be a one time thing, closing a door on the future I couldn’t handle.

Will this new bump in the road be everything we needed to find our forever?

Heartless King is a standalone friends to enemies to lovers, accidental pregnancy romance that brings all the laugh out loud, angsty feels!

Excerpt

The question had been running through my head all night: how could I get her to leave? But I didn’t want her to go. And now the maple syrup and cinnamon taste of her sent me hurtling close to the edge of my control. Those reserves were running on fumes.
Everyone else had been run off by my anger or blinded by my money, but not her. If anything, she battled me, pushing me like she knew I needed it. She wouldn’t let me hide the splintered and cracked pieces of myself that I was barely holding together.
She didn’t push me to talk, just slid in past my defenses and got me to say more than I should.
“Do you want me to stop?” I ran my fingers through her hair, tugging on the roots.
Her lips parted in a gasp and I deepened the kiss, needing to taste even more of her. She’d teased me, eating that French toast that smelled like a vanilla and cinnamon factory had exploded when it arrived at our table.
She stared into my eyes, heavy breaths shuddering past her lips. “Hell no.”

Author Bio

Maya Hughes, that's me!, can often be found sneaking in another chapter while hiding in the bathroom from her kids! :-) I'm a romance writer who loves taking inspiration from everyday life, namely my husband and biggest fan. Inspiration also strikes when I hear a song, meet someone new or daydream while at soccer practice.

I love writing stories that capture the possibilities of the paths less travelled and enjoy experiencing life through my characters’ eyes.

I'm the mom of three little ones, the wife to an amazing husband and also work full time. Some of my favorite things are cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, white wine, laughing until I can't breathe, traveling with my family and Jeff Goldblum.
This book is the last book in the series and it really brings the kings closer together. It also has lotsa angyst and my heart broke a few times for both Colm and Imogen. But it really brings this story full circle to that first book that started this series. The author did a wonderful job with this entire series.

The Kings of Rittenhouse is not really a stand alone series. Can each book be read without the others? Sure but you really need to read each book to see how events affect each character. This last book in the series more than the other doesn't stand alone as we get to see how Colm and Olivia's relationship has changed and how things come around. We also learn how Imogen's past has really affected her future and her relationship with Colm.

In this story Colm is knocked down. He has had two injuries and he is feeling very badly about life and hockey and his past with Imogen, as well as how betrayed he feels by his best friend getting together with his beloved sister that occurred in the pervious book. He has a very tragic life so he understands where Imogen is coming from.

Imogen lost her boyfriend 5 years before and she is still living in the past. To some degree I felt that she needed to move on and grow up a little more. She really needed counseling in my opinion. She has also had a very tragic life so to some degree, her and Colm really understand each other like no one else. I loved her character on one hand but at times I wanted her to just move on and to some degree she clings to her past.
I loved how Jules and Avery were used in the book to tie the authors two series together. While this is the last book in the Kings series I hope we get to see these guys in future series.

Texting the Rugby Player by Ariya Cox

Purchase: Amazon US | Amazon INTL

Mae Nolan is existing in Australia; that’s the only way to put it. She arrived with her ex-boyfriend, who promptly cheated on her, and ever since then she’s been too embarrassed to go home and face the family who warned her against him. Now all she does is work long hours, save her money, and avoid anything to do with the opposite sex. She’s just not interested. Until one night she comes across a passed-out girl, Ciara, and ends up taking a phone call from her very irate brother. Her brother, Jack, is rude, snappy, and abrupt, but when Mae and Ciara become friends and Jack continues to text her, she starts to see the real him.

Somehow she ends up looking forward to their chats and starts revealing more and more of herself to him. It’s a relief to talk to someone, and he feels safe because he’s on the other side of the world and she knows she’ll never see him. Then he comes to Australia. And she finds out he’s an international rugby star. And he wants to meet up. None of this was part of her plan, and she definitely wasn’t expecting what comes next.

About Ariya Cox

Ariya Cox was born and raised in the UK. She loves to travel extensively and this book was written in Latin America. Scenes throughout the book were written in Chile, Argentina, Peru, Mexico and Colombia. She’d probably write a lot quicker if she wasn’t constantly exploring but she has no plans to change that any time soon. Of course she’s also been to Australia a number of times and spent time on the East Coast in her early 20’s working in bars and cafes and basically living the backpacking dream!

I received an arc copy but I also bought it thru Kindle Unlimited and read the KU copy as the arc arrived on the late side.

This is a brand new author and it appears to be her debut book. Its written pretty well and I did not see any spelling errors. It takes place in Australia and all the characters are from England or Ireland. In this story we only see the heroine's voice, Mae, we never hear from Jack or his sisters side of things.

The first part of the story featuring the texting was wonderful. I loved the story and how Jack and his sister and Mae meet and get to know each other. The only thing that did not make sense in this part of the story is that Jack has his sister move in and live with a friend of his but when Mae first talks with him, he claims to not know where the friend, Phoebe lives. Yet she is supposedly a friend of his watching out for his sister.

The 2nd part of the story is when Mae and Jack meet. Usually everyone loves meeting after a text relationship but Mae is very resistant to anything with Jack and so her reaction was a little strange. This is when I felt the story goes off the rails and why its 3 stars or less. She does something awful to Jack and truly to herself as well. And I did not understand it at all. She does grow a brain but it takes her a few weeks to get there and when she sees Jack again, I felt the story just abruptly ends. The ending was super disapointing. I wanted some sort of epilogue or seeing them together finally and I just hated the way it ends.

Mae throughout this story seemed extremely immature. Her ex cheats on her twice and not just a bad decision but he cheats on her for weeks and she still says I love him and if he said I am sorry I would take him back. I felt she ran away from things way too easy and her attitude with the ex was just not how a 28 year old would act and was more like a silly 18 year old.

Jack was awesome. I felt her deserved a whole lot better than Mae and that he was always giving to Mae and she was never really there for him as he was there for her. I did not like how he kept secrets from her and how she was told that info but I felt her reaction was on the strange side and not how a 28 year old would react. I did miss hearing Jack's side of things as this was just Mae's viewpoint.

That said for a debut book it was written extremely well. I loved how Mae and Jack meet over the phone and I loved getting to spend time with Mae in Australia. The texting relationship was also really wonderful.
