FREE IN KU! A FEARLESS MEMORY - Oil Knights #4 - by Marie Johnston (Vienne & Austen )
🔥Neighbors to Lovers
🔥Small Town Romance
🔥Single Mom
🔥Best Friend’s Brother
ABOUT THE BOOK
The only thing I admire more than the old farmhouse next door is the guy who owns it. My best friend’s brother.
I didn't mean to give my hot neighbor a full peep show when my puppy locks me outside in nothing but a towel. Yet Austen Knight pretends he didn’t see everything and offers me an interior design job—help him renovate the farmhouse I’ve adored since I was a kid.
I’m a single mom trying to run a business in a small town. I can’t be alone with Austen day in and day out without igniting rumors that could hurt the career I’ve worked so hard for. But I need the money, and he’s leaving after the house is done and goes on the market.
Turns out, renovating with him is fun. Working with him is addicting. And I look forward to our cold beer together after a long day. When works turns to pleasure, I should put a stop to what we’re doing, it’s not professional, but I can’t.
Austen reignites something in me that I left behind long ago. He’s become so much more than my friend’s brother and my neighbor, but he’s going to be gone soon. Guys always leave in the end. I’ll be a struggling single mom again, and he’ll be nothing but a fearless memory.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Meet Marie Johnston
Marie Johnston is a RITA® Finalist, and a best-selling and award-winning writer of paranormal and contemporary romance – and an avid reader of them both.
Several years ago, when kids started outnumbering adults in the house, Marie Johnston left her job as a public health microbiologist to stay at home. Settling into working part-time and shuttling kids around gave Marie the opportunity to think about what she wanted to be when she grew up. A die-hard science geek, she explored her previously thought to be non-existent creative side after much time spent making snowman crafts and coloring princesses. Having entertained thoughts of writing a book one day then subsequently deciding it would be too hard, she finally put the figurative pen to paper and began to type – and fell in love with story telling.
The Sigma Menace is the first series by Marie with Fever Claim being her first book EVER. She is humbled by the fact that people are willing to read to her books and looks forward to keeping readers entertained for many years.
Marie lives with her husband and four kids in North Dakota where the summers are gorgeous, the winters are brutal, and spring and fall are luxuries.

There are many reasons I should have handed in my resignation the day I met my new boss, Hudson Case.
First off, he’s the reason I lost my first waitressing job. Secondly, he’s gruff, grumpy, and another inconvenient g-word . . . gorgeous.
And to top it off, he’s my good friend’s dad.
Oh, and did I mention, he’s also my new roommate? Yeah, we’ll get to that in a sec.

Oh, and did I mention, he’s also my new roommate? Yeah, we’ll get to that in a sec.
It all started when I begged my friend to get me a temp position working as her dad’s admin until my big move at the end of summer. Little did I know, her dad was the same jerk who callously fired me from my previous waitressing gig.
He says I’m a walking migraine and a thorn in his side. So when I threaten to quit, why does his counteroffer include me moving in with him for business reasons?
But before we know it, we’re mixing business with pleasure.
A lot of pleasure.
Suddenly nothing feels temporary anymore. But it has to be, right?
Because one way or another, our time together is coming to an end.

I have read this entire series and love it so much. They are angsty romances and this one is even better because it's got a huge age gap, takes place at work and is a secret, forbidden romance between his new employee and his daughter's friend. If you are new to this series, its also a great book to start with because its
Very loosely connected to the series as we only see the other couples in the series a few times as they are friends of Hudson’s. I think this is the best book in the whole series so it’s a great book to start reading. It is told in dual POV, and I loved seeing into Hudson and Kavi’s heads.
In this book we get to know Hudson Case who at 17 had a daughter, Madison. Madison is now 29 and a college professor. Madison and Kavi are good friends and met in college. Kavi is a new graduate but very poor until she starts her dream job and so she needs a temp job. She asks Mad to ask her father for a job and that’s how Kavi ends up working for Hudson.
The book starts these two off as enemies as he got her fired at her last waitressing job at a restaurant he owns. But she never expected to end up crushing on the big jerk as she works for him, and he never expected to be so attracted to his new employee. In addition, they are not just connected through Madison but also, they become roomies. So, resisting each other becomes so much fun for the readers, not so much for Kavi and Hunter. I totally loved all the tropes the author ends up using in this book and I loved the dual points of view, so we get to hear what they are feeling.
This story has a huge age gap, she is 24 to his 46 but in all honesty its not a big deal in this book. They are book adults and Kavi is a driven and mature woman and Hudson grew up fast when he had a baby at age 17. The secret romance and hiding it from his daughter and Kavi’s friend was more center stage in this book than the age gap. I also loved seeing them work together and really start falling for each other.Friday, May 24, 2024
