Rock On - Rock Harder #4 - by Kat Mizera (Harley and Tommy)

 ABOUT THE BOOK

She was the one who got away.
Slipped right through my fingers.
My crush, my muse, my wife.
When she asked for a divorce, I had no choice but to let her go, but my heart would never comply.
Not even after the shocking revelation that rocked me to my core.
I’ll never stop loving her, but I don’t know if I can ever forgive her.
Seeing her again brings memories crashing to the surface, feelings I’d rather stay buried.
Now I’m torn between the love we shared and the hate I’m desperate to feel for her.
It would make everything so much easier.
What happens when lightning strikes twice?
I have no idea.
But, we’re about to find out.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she's called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She's never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she'd probably choose the west coast.

A typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max), Kat can usually be found scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) - traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible.

Kat's been a working freelance writer for nearly 30 years. She sold her first article--a review of a rock concert--for $10 in 1985. Since then she's been an entertainment journalist, waitress, bartender, legal assistant, food critic, magazine editor, substitute teacher, and sports writer. She also spent some time working at A & M Records in Los Angeles.

As you can guess from her Las Vegas Sidewinders series, Kat loves hockey and occasionally writes articles about her favorite team, the Florida Panthers. The rest of the time, she writes novels: sexy, romantic fiction that she hopes makes you as happy as it makes her. There's something enticing about hockey players and romance...

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really wanted to read this book, but I knew there would be some plot points that I would not love. So, I want to state that point right away. One I do not read MM books and I also HATE threesomes. I try to avoid books and stories with these two plot points. But going into this book I knew there would be things I would not love. While this is Tommy and Harley's story, it was also very much Carter's story as well.

If you are new this series, it's a rock n roll second chance romance between a couple that loved each other but who is also divorced. There are some huge secrets in this story, not really from us the readers but between Harley and Tommy, the couple who was married, divorced and are now forced to interact.

Tommy is in a rock band and his best friend in the band was a bisexual named Carter. Carter lusted after Tommy but was in love with Harley. These three, Carter, Tommy and Harley had a threesome, ONCE, years before. Soon after Harley divorced Tommy, and no one really knew why. But Carter committed suicide three years before and told everyone he and Harley had a child. He pretty much left her in charge of his estate as guardian of his child, River. Which is why she is now in contact with the band. its members and Tommy again.

With Carter's death both Harley and Tommy are doing pretty awful. Harley is depressed and needs major help. Tommy is devastated by the fact that Tommy and Harley have a child. One aspect of this story is that Tommy cannot have children and Harley has always dreamed of family and children. I mention that because fertility can be a very sensitive subject for some readers, and it is a big part of this story. This is not a light read, as suicide, drug addiction and overdosing are also a part of this story.

Cheating is also a part of this story and in this story, we found out how River was conceived. I am not spoiling the how, but I will say that Tommy believes that Harley cheated on him with Carter. He feels very betrayed by his best friend, in addition Carter kept this huge secret. It's also hard to get mad at someone who is dead, so Tommy is in a very bad place as the book begins.

One aspect of the story that we know is that after his divorce Tommy had many threesomes with Carter and groupies. As a reader I had a huge issue with this as he knew Carter had a THING for him. In addition, the threesome they had ended up destroying his marriage. While he has no idea why it did, he knows his wife left him soon after. In my mind the fact that he had many threesomes after his divorce with the guy that caused his wife to leave him, made me feel icky about the whole thing. I would feel the same way if a guy cheated on his wife or had a threesome and continued to have sex with that same woman after his divorce. It would have been different if it was a different guy but with same guy it made it more of an affair than a romp. I never ever really got over this plot point in the story and in how I felt about Tommy because of his continued threesomes with Carter. This is a personal feeling, so not everyone might feel the way I felt.

What I did like about this story was how Tommy and Harley realize they need help, and they get it. This is a really hard first step and I really respected that they wanted to get better. I also really loved their honesty with each other and how much they really love each other and how Carter helps to bring them closer to each other with his final gift to them.

This was an extremely well written story that I really could not put down. While I did not love every aspect of this story, I loved how real the characters are and that they finally gain control and the life they want. It's not easy, it's a long road but the author told this story in a such a beautiful way.
