The Third Baseman by Lulu Moore (Marnie and Jupiter)

ABOUT THE BOOK

My name is Jupiter Reeves, and I am a fraud.

It's not that what's written about me isn't true.

I am the greatest third baseman of my generation, possibly ever.

I am surly and unapproachable.

I do have a constant scowl, with an armour of tattoos.
And to the outside world, I play my role as the bad boy of baseball like I was born to do it.

But when the doors are closed and you boil it down, I'm nothing more than a man who lost his heart too young, with no prospect of getting it back... especially as I still have no idea where its current owner is.

That was until I was offered an opportunity I couldn't refuse:
Leave the Los Angeles Dodgers—where I've played my entire career—and join The New York Lions in exchange for tracking down the one woman who's consumed me since the day I first saw her fourteen years ago.

Job done.

Now we're under the same roof once again; except Marnie Matthews wants nothing to do with me, or my heart.

So along with winning the Commissioner's Trophy, I have the added challenge of winning back the only woman I've ever loved before the season ends, and convince her to stay in New York with me.

I might have been stupid enough to lose her once, but I'm definitely not going to do it again.

Marnie Matthews is about to become the biggest achievement of my life.

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I have a confession to make, I have never read this author before. I love second chance romances and the description of this book sounded really intriguing and fun, so I read an ARC and I really loved it. So much that I now have a few more books to go back and read.

In this book I met Drew and Emerson (Drew is that book I need to read in the New York Players Series to get Emerson and Drew's story). Jupiter, the male lead in this book is the big brother to Emerson. They are pretty involved in this book as Emerson knew Marnie in high school and they were neighbors.

Other books I need to read is The Suit and The Show. In this book we meet Penn, Lowe, Beulah, and Rafe is mentioned. They have books in The Tuesday Club series, and they all are very heavily involved with Jupiter and Marnie in this story as they all run the baseball team that Marnie and Jupiter end up working for.

This story stars Marnie who is a 30-year-old woman who is approached by Penn, who owns the NY Lions and is building a baseball team. He wants to recruit Jupiter for his team. Jupiter agrees but only if he hires his ex, Marnie, who is married, lives in Houston, and works for NASA. When he does this, she agrees but doesn't start work until 6 months later because she realizes she needs a divorce first.

Marnie arrives in NY ready to work and discovers on her first day just why Penn offered her the job. Up to this point she has not seen or heard from Jupiter in the last 14 years. She is pretty mad about this, but she signed a contract, so she gets to work. The work that she did was really fascinating. It's part of why I loved this book so much. She comes at things and introduces new ideas I had never even thought about.

Jupiter realizes that he has a lot of making up to do and so he tries to get Marnie to give him his second chance. Some of those scenes totally made me laugh. He is a laugh riot with some of his scenes and plots he comes up with were hysterical. Marnie makes him really work for it. Giving him a second is this really huge things for her and I love that she made Jupiter suffer.

I loved this book so much. It's a wonderful romance at work and second chance romance. I found it really different than I had read before, and I thought a very original premise, using analytics in a baseball team and the other things Marnie comes up with.

I also fell hard for some of the side characters and need to read their stories too. But while I have never read the previous books, I also never felt lost and so this book easily stands alone.
