Playing by the Rules Monica Murphy (Blair and Cam)

ABOUT THE BOOK

Camden Fields is the star quarterback of our college football team.

Quiet.

Smart.

Absolutely gorgeous.

He's the man all the women on campus rave about. And while he's had a few casual hookups over the years, it's never anything serious. Cam doesn't do serious.

He also doesn't do me.

See, I'm his best friend's little sister, and whenever we're around each other, he's always warning me that I'm off limits. That nothing can ever happen between us.

But I see the way he looks at me when he thinks I'm not watching. The heat in his gaze. The hunger. He can deny it, but that man wants me.

I want him too.

I'm tired of always being the good girl and doing what everybody expects. For once, I'm going to break all the rules that have restrained me my entire life.

I'm going after Camden Fields.

And no one can stop me.

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is book two in the series and easily stands alone, maybe too much so that at times I felt like I had read the scenes. The first book in this series features Knox and Joanna. This book is about Knox's sister, Blair and his roommate, best friend and teammate, Camden.

This story runs concurrently with the first book, up to chapter 33. This book has over 40 chapters, so it goes past the first book. For me the beginning was a bit slow because it was like I got to see the scenes I had read about in the first book but this time Blair and Cam's POV. Some were new scenes too that did not feature Knox or Joanne. But many scenes kind of had the feel of where it felt like I had read it before.

I loved Cam in the first book, and I loved Blair as well. They were adorable and funny and cute while you could tell they were into each other but hiding it from Knox. In this book I felt so bad for Blair, Cam did not treat her well. His fear of himself and Knox made him made him be very jerky to Blair. And while Blair knew he was being a jerk, to her he was this guy she could not resist, and she kept coming back for more. I would have given up on Cam, but she truly has the biggest crush on him, and she didn't know how to give up on the great guy that she knew he was under all the excuses and jerky behavior.

In truth Cam is a great and we know that, and Knox and Blair know it and his whole team knows that, but he has no clue. He is very down on himself because of his background. My heart broke a bit for him. He really was not ready for Blair and needed to see what the rest of the world saw about how awesome he was. This book was primarily about him and maturing, growing up, and he is at this crossroads where he has to decide to make changes or just keep on being the way he was.

The author did a phenomenal job writing this book. I felt it was very realistic on how college students feel about themselves. Even as Knox has these great skills in football, and the world thinks he is all that, we see him and how he doesn't believe the hype and he has to realize and accept himself as he is, and he is not his past. He can rise above it all. It was a really great message and I loved it.
