BLURB
Guess who gets cut off from her family's inheritance because she decided to dump her cheating ex?
Me.
Which led me to be on the lookout for a fake fiancรฉ who is filthy rich so he can impress my mother.
Luckily for me, I attended an exclusive masquerade ball hosted by the infamous American Billionaire Club and landed hot-as-sin billionaire mogul Jasper Barrett.
He buys me as his date for the night and offers me a deal I can’t refuse.
Be his wife in order for him to inherit his uncle’s business.
But he has two rules for our marriage of convenience to work:
Look pretty on his arm.
Play the happy wife in public.
We both get to use each other—sounds easy, right?
But every kiss sends a shiver down my spine, and every touch ignites passion inside of me.
We should stop this before I fall in love.
The only problem is… I can’t stop, no matter how hard I try.
My heart is on the line, and I’m afraid he’ll smash it into pieces.

This is Jasper and Poppy's story. It is a second chance, fake relationship, fake marriage story.
The story is a sort of slow burn. The two have had sex twice at the start of this book. They do not have sex until about 60% of the story. They do lots of other stuff but they don't get together until that point sexually. The slow burn and the actual sex scenes were extremely hot, well written and I really enjoyed seeing them connect that way.
The reason they get married or fake married is because of their horrible families. In truth I don't think I have ever read a book with such horrible families before. I did not enjoy this aspect of the story. There is abuse verbal, physical (off screen) and the things their families do for money is just horrendous. They treat their children like garbage, and it turned my stomach. So, you have been warned if this is an issue for you.
As for Jasper and Poppy, as characters I liked them. Poppy demands respect from Jasper. Even at times he tries to treat her as a business, she doesn't allow him to mistreat her. Jasper is terrified of real emotions, connecting with her and children. I did not like Jasper very much for a lot of the book. But I did love how he fights for Poppy even in relation to her horrible family. I also really enjoyed his relationship with his sister Lacey.
If you like seeing a HUGE jerk fall in love and change and grow, then you will adore Jasper. He radically changes throughout the book and love really transforms him. Poppy is a sweetheart with a kind heart and a very forgiving nature. In some ways this is a beauty and the beast storyline with Jasper as the beast and Poppy is the beauty who changes his cold heart with love and warmth.
