This is book 2 in a series about a woman, Eden that inherits a hockey team from her grandfather. In the first book, The Rebel, she had been broken up with her ex from college, Alex who dumped her after 5 years and she falls for her new security expert. Alex is also is her new player on her team.

This book is about Alex, her ex and a hockey player who has been running around a bit wild since they broke up and her assistant, Aspen. This book is called the rival because, I guess he is the rival for Eden's affection that lost her.

In this book it is summertime and Eden is engaged and he has to go to her engagement party which is where he hangs out with Aspen. And he finds out she has broken up with her ex and is staying with Eden because she lost her apartment to the ex. Thats when Alex suggests she housesit for the summer at a place in Canada taking care of a house of his teammate, Saints and he will help her out as well.

And so starts their relationship. And I am not spoiling all the details. I really liked Alex a lot which after the first book, I found surprising. I found him vulnerable and sweet and very caring. He just was not right for Eden.

Aspen was a very different character. She is really sweet and kind and vulnerable. She also is very spontaneous and willing to try new things and not always sure where she will end up. I really liked that about her character.
