The Sophomore by Monica Murphy

ABOUT THE BOOK
Jackson Rivers.

My not so secret crush.

He’s popular. Gorgeous. Talented.

Also my biggest weakness.

I’ve stood by him for years. Been a friend every time he needed one, but he doesn’t see me. Not like I want him to.

Move on, my friends said. Find someone new. Someone who sees your worth. Someone who gets you. I know they’re right. I’m only a friend to him. He’s never going to see me like I see him. So I take their advice, and try to move on.

But Jackson is always right there. In my face. Running to my rescue. And when I meet someone else, Jackson isn’t having it. For some reason, he’s suddenly determined to stay in my life. Right by my side.

Now he says he wants me, but does he want an actual relationship? Or is that he can’t stand the thought of losing me to another guy?

It’s time to find out what Jackson truly wants...and I’m going to make him work for it.

For me.

This is Ellie and Jackson's story and I have only read The Freshman and the last book in the Callahan series so these two were pretty new characters for me. I really liked Jackson and Ellie when I met them in The Freshman so I was excited to read a story about them.

The only thing I hesitated about this book was I hate seeing the leads romanticly with other people in books. But the only person that Jackson is with in this book is a groupie in one scene at the begining of the story. It was a major catalyst of the story, in that it opens Ellie's eyes to Jackson and makes her decide to check out other fish in the sea. When Jackson can lose her and he gets major competition, well it finally makes him see Ellie. And I loved that!!

This was a wonderful story and it details Ellie and Jackson's Sophomore year at college. It also includes Tony, Hayden, Gracie, Eli and Caleb's. Ava also visits and calls as Ellie is her bestie.

Jackson and Ellie are best friends. The truth is she is his best friend. He is friends with the guys but Ellie is the one he confesses all his dreams and his doubts to. But Jackson also doesn't have faith in himself and feels Ellie deserves better than her. He does jerk her around in this book so be ready for that. But not terribly, its mre about how confused his feelings for her are. But what endeared him to me is that no matter what, he is always there for her when she needs him.

Ellie has loved Jackson since day one, but he never seemed to see her until this year. But he jerks her around a bit and what I loved was that she stops waiting and she puts herself out there  at her job and also with another guy. She really grows up in this story and she grows away from Jackson which in turn makes him have to decide what he wants. He is a really mixed up kid and Ellie is his home and she really helps him see what he needs and what he wants for his future.

This was a fast read and its pretty light reading. There are some hot times but there also are wonderful characters and a really fantastic storyline. I positively adored this story.
