I have one goal: To be the best hockey player I can be. I’m not going to waste the opportunity I have. All my focus is on hockey. I avoid distractions like women and relationships during the hockey season, but when a quirky subway busker asks me out on a fake date, somehow I’m intrigued enough to accept.
Emerie Ross
I gave up my music dreams to look after my half-sister. I don’t want her to feel as alone and neglected as I did after our mother died. But my ex-boyfriend is still trying to win me back and now my stepfather is helping him. Gah! I’d rather drink bleach than marry Roman Moretti. If they think I’m involved with someone else, maybe they’ll give up on that idea. All I need is a man…a date for a party.
Owen
When Emerie introduces me to her wicked stepfather (ha) I realize I’ve made a huge mistake. He’s my boss—the man who owns the team I play for. And he’s not happy to see me with Emerie. Can you say career ending move?
Emerie
Oops. I hate hockey. How was I supposed to know who Owen is? How are we going to keep Vince from trading him away? How am I going to make sure I stay happily un-married? We’re going to have to keep up this pretense even if it means me going to hockey games. Ugh. Even if it means disrupting Owen’s rigid routines. Even if it means everything gets a lot more complicated…
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
About Kelly Jamieson
Kelly Jamieson is a USA Today bestselling author of over 40 romance novels and novellas.
Her writing has been described as “emotionally complex”, “sweet and satisfying” and “blisteringly sexy”. She likes black coffee, white wine and high heels…and of course cheering on her Winnipeg Jets during hockey season!
The author has written several hockey series. This is her second Bears series and its called Bears 2. It is the first book in the new series. What's cool is we see characters in this series from the Bears 1 series as well.
This story was really original. Honestly, I have never read another hockey book that was anything like this story and it was what made this story so interesting. The female main character in this story is Emerie. She has a half sister who is 12, Cat, and their mother died several years before. She has a stepdad and both girls don't spend much time with the dad Vince though they live with him.
Emerie has always felt very alone, and she never wanted that for Cat. She loves music and is very talented but because she takes care of Cat she never went to college and doesn't have a job, so she can take care of Cat. Instead, she works as a Busker. She plays music in disguise at subway stations.
And that's where she meets her biggest fan, Owen. One day she decides to talk to him, and she asks him to be her date because her stepdad is trying to fix her up with an ex, Roman. And that's when her stepdad, Vince, Owen and Em get a huge surprise.
Vince wants Em to date and marry Roman. Em wants to take care of Cat and date whoever she wants, and well Owen really just wants to play hockey. When Vince plays hardball with Em, I loved how Owen steps up. I also loved that Em ends up making some friends from the characters in the first Bears series. I love how they have her back no matter what.
This is really a coming-of-age story. All the main characters, Vince, Cat, Em, Owen, and even Roman really grow in this story. They mature and grow up and have to decide what they want their future to be. They have to let go of the past and move on and sometimes that is easier said than done.
