Code Name: Rook - Jameson Force Security, Book #6 - Sawyer Bennett

ABOUT THE BOOK

Being a highly skilled operative for a company like Jameson Force Security is exhilarating and important work…until it comes time to date. I like to keep my profession under wraps for a number of reasons. Some of what we do is top secret, most of what we do is dangerous, and more than one woman has tried to latch onto me because she was more enamored with what I do than who Cage Murdock really is.

And since I’m more of a ‘here for the night’ than a ‘here for forever’ kind of guy, what’s the harm in a little white lie about my job? My harmless deceit has never failed me. Until now. Because I met the most amazing woman and did the unthinkable. I married her. And now my beautiful, unsuspecting, probably-going-to-leave-my-sorry-behind-when-she-finds-out-the-truth wife doesn’t know that I’m not a used car salesman like I told her when we met.

As it typically does with lies, the truth is about to come out in a big way when Jaime unwittingly gets herself mixed up with some unsavory characters and I, along with the team at Jameson, have to intervene. Now I need to save my girl and hope I can save my marriage too. Let’s just say I have some serious explaining to do.

I am a HUGE fan of Sawyer Bennett's Hockey series. But I never really liked her sex club books and when I heard she was doing a bodyguard series I decided not to read it because I am not into the whole bodyguard is sexy romance stories. But when I read a description of this book I absolutely fell in love with the storyline and had to read it.

It was absolutely wonderful and I am so glad I got a chance to check it out. Being as I have never read the series and this is book 6, it easily stands alone. I seriously never wondered about anything and absolutely fell in love with all the couples included in this series and I might read more in this series as well. I really enjoyed it so much.

In this story we meet Cage and Jaime. They both meet in a bar and feel a real connection but Cage is a playboy and so he tells her a fake story about his real life job and as he falls for her he just lies more.

As time goes by they date and fall in love and she meets his friends and the lies get even more complicated. Cage is not a bad guy and I believe that Jamie would have forgiven him but on the night he is about to tell the truth, life stops him and I absolutely LOVED and adored this plot twist.

I loved that Jaime does not just accept his apology and forgive but she makes him really work for it. This was an absolutely awesome story. One that I felt was highly unusual and one that I loved so much I will definitely re-read.

ABOUT THE BOOK

What’s the actual last thing you’d ever want your executive assistant to see you doing the morning after you had hot, drunk, angry sex with her in a terrible hotel room? Dancing around your terrible hotel room to “Come and Get Your Love” like Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy—naked? Yeah. Me too.

And yet, here we are.

This isn’t even the most unprofessional thing that’s happened between us in the past couple of weeks.

The first was when I agreed to let her have Christmas Day off, but only if she goes with me to three family gatherings as my fake girlfriend.

The second was when she caught me belting out a Christmas song on stage in the awful hotel bar.

The third was the hot, drunk, angry sex that followed, but I do not regret it.

And she hasn’t even found out the real reason I need her by my side this holiday season.

I need to pull it together before I do the dumbest, most unprofessional thing of all—fall head over heels in love with the only assistant who’s lasted more than a month at the job and claims to hate me and my moods more than she hates eggnog.

And I’ve seen how much she hates eggnog.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Before writing steamy romantic comedy novels, Kayley Loring got a BFA in creative writing from a Canadian university and had a fifteen-year career as a screenwriter in Los Angeles (under a different name). She mostly wrote PG-13 family comedies that studios would pay her lots of money for and then never make into movies.

In 2017 she decided to move to the Pacific Northwest and write about all the fun stuff that she wasn't allowed to write about in those PG-13 scripts. Now she’s breathing cleaner air and writing dirtier words. It’s an adjustment she’s happily getting used to.

This is a stand alone romance perfect for the holiday season. It stars Declan who is a workaholic lawyer in NYC who has the best assistant, Maggie but who he drives crazy with his work requests, texts, and emails. All she wants for Christmas is a break from work and to spend it with her family.

All Declan wants for the holidays is to spend as little time with his family as possible and a date for his brothers wedding. So he decides to make a small proposal to Maggie. And so he takes her to his home for the holidays on a very short trip.

During the trip things come to ahead and it changes their relationship forever.

I really loved Declan and Maggie. They are filled with humor, hotness and lots of fun. The reason that Declan avoids his family, is a spoiler so I can't share that but I will say my sympathies absolutely laid will him. The fact that he even talks to his family said a lot because I definitely would not. Aside from this I absolutely adored this romance. Its told with a lightness and has lots of really light and fun times around the holidays.

She isn’t afraid to kick me out of my post-break up funk, nor does she sugarcoat the truth. Now that she’s agreed to be my fake girlfriend for an upcoming wedding, a weight has been lifted.

Pretending has never felt more real.
Reality has never been more complicated.

AUTHOR BIO

Aubrey Bondurant is a working mom who loves to write, read and travel.

She describes her writing style as: "Adult Contemporary Erotic Romantic Comedy," which is just another way of saying she likes her characters funny, her bedroom scenes hot, and her romances with a happy ending.

When Aubrey isn't working her day job, or spending time with her family, she's on her laptop typing away on her next story. She only wishes there were more hours of the day!

She's a former member of the US Marine Corps and passionate about veteran charities and giving back to the community. She loves a big drooly dog, a fantastic margarita, and football.

This is book three in the series but it easily stands alone. If you have read all three books this is Reid and Teagan's story and it was perfect. If you haven't read this series before its a boss/employee romance that takes place in Dubai.

Teagan has had a crush on her boss, Reid, for awhile now but he was engaged to a woman named Vanessa who lives in the Unites States. However he is broken hearted because she cheated on him with his brother, Chance. Teagan is tired of him being a mess and so she tells him to get his act together.

Thats when he confesses he has a wedding to go to and needs a date and thats how he and Teagan get into a fake boyfriend/girlfriend romance. The two have worked together but never been friends and this is the story of how a fake relationship turns into friendship and so much more.

Vanessa is the ex and she is a big mean girl and I actually kinda loved her. I know I wasn't supposed too. But as an ex she lost the best guy and I kinda felt sorry for her. The next book is about Chance and Teagan's sister, Tory and well I hope Vanessa is back because she was fun to hate.

This story is the third in the series and I have read them all. I think this one is my absolute favorite. Its definitely a fun and light read.

Peacekeeper - Montgomery Brothers #2 - by Laura Pavlov

BLURB

Harrison
I loved Laney Landers before most people learned to read.
Blonde hair, blue eyes that rivaled the ocean, and an invisible halo over her head.
She stole my heart the same day she threw sand in my face.
What started as a friendship grew into so much more.
I thought she’d be my forever.
But then life threw me a curveball and I changed course.
Laney moved on and found a different happily ever after...
While I wallowed in grief and regret.
And now she’s here, reminding me that I made the biggest mistake of my life.

Laney

I loved Harrison Montgomery since the first day he saved me a seat in kindergarten.

He was my best friend, my own real-life prince.
He taught me to ride a bike and showed me how to shoot a three-pointer in basketball.
He was my first kiss.
My first love.
My first heartache.
My first everything.
I don’t believe in happily ever after anymore.
Harrison forced me to write a new ending to my story.
But seeing him again after all these years—it makes me want things I shouldn’t.
Because that chapter of my life is closed forever.
Or is it?

This is book 2 in the series and its just as awesome as the first story. I absolutely adore this series. The first book was very intense with shall we say lots of drama . This story is a lot more romantic and emotional and a lot less violent. It also easily stands alone.

This is Harrison Montgomery's story and it is very much a second chance at love story. It features a few serious issues which gave it a little more depth. None of the issues were that intense and I think that really worked so the story is more centered on the characters rather than the issues.

For half the story Laney is engaged to this awesome guy. She doesn't cheat on him except within her heart which still beats for her ex Harrison. And Harrison wants her forever so he tries to fight for her heart.

Laney and Harrison fell in love at age 5 and grew up and dated through their years of college. That is until Harrison's father died and he decided to go to college locally and he breaks up with Laney so she would go to college.

He never intended it to be forever, but she never came home and saw him again until her mother is diagnosed with cancel and it forces her to confront her heart and her future and decide who she wants it to be with.

Harrison just wants her back and so he starts a project to get her to remember how awesome they were together. This was an absolutely awesome and highly romantic story. I absolutely adored Harrison's relationship with Laney.

Excerpt

“No,” said the bodyguard.
“But—”
“Miss, do you have any idea how many people try to get backstage by claiming they have some sort of relationship with Mr. Dillon?” Face a careful blank, the man in the slick black suit stared down at me. He had a point. I’d pushed through a crush of fans, getting my toes stomped on several times, along with taking an elbow to the kidney, just to talk to this guy. God only knew what it took to get near the star of the show.
“I’d imagine a lot,” I yelled back at him. Necessary given the volume of the music filling the space. “The difference here is I’m not lying.”
“But since everyone says that, you can see from my perspective how that’s not actually a point of difference.”
Adam Dillon, rock star extraordinaire, gyrated his slim denim-clad hips like an Alt-Rock Elvis on the nearby stage. He pouted and crooned about the woman who’d done him wrong. Me. That’s right, I was the big bad ex who’d broken him and woke him to the dangers of love. Or so the song said.
The song lied and then some.
According to the lyrics he was currently wailing, I’d ground his heart beneath my five-inch heels before blowing him a kiss goodbye. From memory, there’d been a lot of shouting, but no blowing of kisses. And having just kicked off the flats I wore for work, I’d been barefoot, my legs and back aching. No way had I been strutting around in stilettos. Home from a hard day at the hair salon, I’d returned to find Adam on the couch. The same place he’d been when I’d left for work approximately eleven hours earlier. The same place he’d been for what felt like months as I worked my ass off to pay the rent. That’s when all hell broke loose. However, it wasn’t the only issue that had caused our relationship to bomb. Nothing’s ever simple.
But back to the here and now. I grabbed the slip of paper out of my front pocket, holding it up for his perusal. “My name is Jill Schwartz. How many of those people claiming to know him have one of these?”
His eyes widened as he scanned the name on the check, before widening again at the amount. And fair enough too. I’d had a mild panic attack myself when it had first arrived. When Adam decided to make a statement, he didn’t bother with subtle. If only I could figure out what it all meant. If it meant anything at all, of course. And that question was what had brought me here tonight.

This was a really fun story with the Stage Dive group. Its about a rock star, Adam Dillon that sings about his one lost love and his lost love, Jill who comes back into his life to return a check he sent her.

I absolutely adored this story. Jill is an absolute laugh riot and she gives Adam all her anger about his anger filled songs. Meanwhile Adam is just a lonely rock star and he tries to win her heart. He lives in the same building as Mal and Anne and some of the gang also make appearances.

Its a pretty short novella but I absolutely loved seeing the gang again and I loved the humor that Jill brings to this story.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Arrogant, charming and sexy as hell, Master chef Sean Kincaid is legendary both in the kitchen and in the bedroom. So of course it only took five minutes for him to get me overheated. My temper that is.

Because Sean Kincaid is my new boss. Who has strolled into my kitchen demanding I follow his rules. I don’t like taking orders from anyone but certainly not from a grumpy man who knows how to push all of my buttons.

And when a Best Chef competition pits the two of us against each other, it’s either going to be a sizzler--or a recipe for disaster.

Excerpt

The first time I met Sean Kincaid it was hate at first sight.
I didn’t know who he was at the time, but he annoyed me from the very first second he entered the same air space as me.
The feeling had clearly been mutual.
On my way to my friend Felicia’s engagement party, I was already in the elevator reaching for the button when a very tall, very attractive guy threw his arm up to stop the door from closing. The door bounced back open and he stepped in the elevator with a victorious smile on his face.
Then he stopped. Mid-smile, he just cut it off. Like once he’d taken in the view of me and made eye contact, he’d decided I no longer was worthy of his teeth being displayed.
It was so shockingly obvious that I had an immediate intense negative reaction in return. Boom. Insta-hate.
I had a reputation of being something of a cynic because I don’t think couples should jump into moving in together or say, get married after a couple of weeks. I believe in taking it slow and background checks, so sue me. Proceed with caution or get your heart shattered into a million pieces. Or worse, you wind up with a restraining order. But I wasn’t unfriendly. I liked people. I was open to giving everyone a shot. It was rare for me to dislike a guy on sight.
But that dismissive glance made me want to build a wall brick by brick between us so I didn’t have to look at his arrogant face.
“What floor?” I asked, to be polite, because even though I couldn’t shake that flicker of irritation, I wasn’t going to be a bitch.
“Four. I’m going to my brother’s engagement party.” He made a sound of disgust, shaking his head. “He’s marrying some psycho he met on a dating app a hot minute ago.”
We were going to the same party. Fabulous. I actually agreed with him that the engagement was too fast. Which it definitely was. Felicia and Michael had been dating all of three weeks. But that psycho was my best friend, and why was she the crazy one and his brother wasn’t when both of them had jumped into the engagement?
“I’m going to the same apartment,” I said, studiously staring at the numbers panel. Do not engage. Do not argue with a total stranger, I coached myself.
We were only on the second floor. Slowest. Elevator. Ever.
“Oh, you know Michael? Do you work with him? Can you talk him out of this ridiculous engagement?”
I had never met Michael (because as mentioned, Felicia and Michael had basically just met themselves) but it wasn’t reassuring that I would adore Felicia’s fiancรฉ if he shared DNA with this guy standing next to me.
“No, I don’t work with Michael.” I turned and gave him a hard stare. “Felicia is one of my best friends. You know, the psycho marrying your brother.”
Understanding dawned, but he merely grinned. He didn’t look even remotely apologetic. “No kidding? Small world.”
“How does that make it a small world?” I asked, unable to contain myself. “There are eight units in this building, two on the first floor, and we’re on the elevator together. Odds are we’d be going to the same party.”
His eyebrows shot up. “It’s called small talk. A non sequitur.”
Was that mansplaining? My vow to be polite disintegrated. “Small world, small talk… what else in your world is small?” I asked, giving him a questioning stare.
He just gave a laugh. “Wouldn’t you like to know.”
“No. I wouldn’t.” Because I doubted he had a small anything, in spite of my jab.
Because unfortunately, he was actually a hot piece of man candy. I could admit that. He was tall, broad shouldered, with a strong jaw. He had light green eyes that gave off an icy coolness and cheekbones that women spent hours watching YouTube videos to try to achieve with contouring. He hadn’t shaved recently, but it wasn’t a full beard. Just a few days of caramel-colored stubble that I had no doubt most women would enjoy running their fingers through.
He was gorgeous and muscular and probably had a cock to back up all that confidence. Which made me dislike him even more.
“What do you think of this engagement?” he asked. “Seriously. No offense, but there has to be something wrong with your friend.”
“Are you serious?” Because again, Felicia was defective, but that made his brother normal? I wasn’t going to be a bitch on my own behalf, but if you mess with my friends, I will bring it. I opened my mouth to annihilate him, but got distracted when the elevator jerked to a sudden halt.
“Why are we stopping?” he asked, looking up.
The second-floor button was still lit up. “Maybe someone is going up from the second floor,” I said, because duh. That’s what elevators do. They stop at floors.
“But the doors aren’t opening.” He reached out and jammed his finger repeatedly into the “open door” button.
Fighting the urge to sigh, I just stood there and watched him pull back from the panel and run his hand through his hair.
“Nothing is happening.”
No, it wasn’t. I unfurled my scarf so it wasn’t covering my neck. It was December and I was bundled up from the commute from Brooklyn to SoHo. It was getting stuffy in the elevator. I had my purse over my shoulder and across my midsection so I didn’t have to carry it and I shifted so that I could unzip my winter coat.
Michael’s brother turned to me, panic clear on his face. “What the hell do we do?”
“It might start up again in a minute,” I said, not really that worried. I’d been on enough trains that had stopped and started again without any reason or explanation. I’d also been trapped in an elevator once about four years earlier and that had lasted three hours. Once we got past ten minutes, I would start to get concerned, but for now I wasn’t going to freak out. “Push the help button.”
That seemed an obvious course of action to me.
But he dismissed that idea. “No one is going to respond to that.”
Okay, Mr. Elevator Expert.
“I’ll push it, then.” I tried to shift around him, but he wasn’t moving. “Excuse me.” I was determined to keep my cool.
He wrinkled his nose and frowned down at me. “What? Why?”
“So I can push the button.”
The frown deepened. His mouth was sensual, with lips that probably could do amazing things to a woman’s inner thighs, after he stripped her naked.

This story is a standalone but the prologue takes place in the midst of Forty Day Fiancee. It is the fourth book in the series  and stars the brother, Sean from Forty and Felicia's bestfriend from Forty as well, Isla. In the prologue they meet in the elevator before the wedding.

This is part of the author, Erin McCarthy’s contemporary, adult, rom-com series focusing on a group of friends in New York. Previous story line couples return as secondary and supporting characters, as mentioned Sean  and Felicia (Forty First Dates),  Grant and Leah (Weekend Wife) and Maddox and Savannah (Five First Dates). The only book I have read was Five First Dates.

This is very much a hate turning to love while at the workplace and they are both chefs. Isla and Sean meet when an elevator stalls and he is a MAJOR jerk for the first part of the book. Aside from how he treats Isla he also is into one night stands and has a horrible nickname. Even I hated him at this point.

But then he gets the job as Isla's boss and we start to see that he is not really that guy. and he starts to open up to Isla and her him. Thats when I fell in love with this story. It is sweet, hot, romantic and absolutely a wonderful story. It was an awesome read and I highly enjoyed it.

ONLY ONE CHANCE by Natasha Madison

From USA Bestseller Natasha Madison comes a brand new Hockey series The Only One.

Miller
They called me the pretty boy on and off the ice. Hockey’s most eligible bachelor.

When my teammate asked me to donate one date to his charity, I figured why not. Worst case, I’d spend the night with a fan. Best-case scenario, she would be hot. What I wasn’t expecting was for my dream girl to be the highest bidder.

For years, she brushed me off, and now, I finally had a chance to take her out and show her who I really was.

With only one shot at this, I really hoped I didn’t mess it up.

Layla
At the top of my career, I was riding the wave of my sports talk show having the best rating on the radio.

I also made it a rule to never date any sports players.

It was my one rule, and I was sticking to it until I bid on the only man who gets under my skin.

All it takes is one touch, one night, one kiss, and only one chance.

This is book 2 in the series but it easily stands alone. It stars Miller and Layla, both friends of the first couple featured in the first book in the series, Ralph and Candace. We get small glimpses of them throughout this romance.

Miller and Layla met 4 years before but he screwed up by flirting but then kissing someone else. So he has the major hots for her but she wants nothing to do with him. Until she gets drunk at a bachelor auction and buys him but can't remember any of it the next morning.

Miller knows he screwed up 4 years before but he has no idea how but he has been begging Layla for a date throughout all these years. He thinks she does not like him, until she wins him in an auction and that is his one chance and he plans to take it.

This was a wonderful story and I really adored it. I loved how Miller talks with his friends and they get him to see how big a flirt he is so he can change his ways. I loved that he wanted Layla enough to work at it and change and I loved Layla's courage in confronting him on his issue. I also loved Layla's grandmother, she was a total laugh riot and I loved how she is the one who ends up on a date with Miller.

There is a big secret that Layla has and to be honest I felt it was kinda a minor secret. I felt Miller super over reacted but I also felt that Layla was too devastated. She should have been a little more forceful with him and made him suffer over how he treats her after he finds out her secret. I felt that she was this tough cookie prior to Miller and she should have kept that tough girl image even after he hurts her. And I also felt she forgave him way too easy.  That said I still loved this story and I am glad at least the author did not drag it out.
