ABOUT THE BOOK

This time he’s playing for keeps...

Rugged hockey star Dax O’Day has always had a thing for his best friend and teammate’s twin sister, but that’s a line you don’t cross. Not in hockey, and definitely not in life. He just can’t stop thinking about her, and when she turns to him for help, there isn’t a chance in hell he can refuse her—even if it means getting his hands dirty.

Beautiful and brilliant, Isla Campbell is a physics professor who comes from a titled Scottish family. She’s loved Dax since the first time they met, but he’s never really seen her like that. With her grandfather trying to marry her off, who better to come to her rescue than the most uninterested, eligible bachelor.

Dax is torn between walking away from the only life he’s ever known to answer the call of duty and keeping his distance from the woman he can’t live without. The longer they put off the inevitable, the harder it becomes to choose.

About the Author:

USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she's called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She's never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she'd probably choose the west coast.

A typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max), Kat can usually be found scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) - traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible.

Kat's been a working freelance writer for nearly 30 years. She sold her first article--a review of a rock concert--for $10 in 1985. Since then she's been an entertainment journalist, waitress, bartender, legal assistant, food critic, magazine editor, substitute teacher, and sports writer. She also spent some time working at A & M Records in Los Angeles.

As you can guess from her Las Vegas Sidewinders series, Kat loves hockey and occasionally writes articles about her favorite team, the Florida Panthers. The rest of the time, she writes novels: sexy, romantic fiction that she hopes makes you as happy as it makes her. There's something enticing about hockey players and romance...

Connect with Kat:

First I need to share that I never read Ian. So Isla was a brand new character for me and I never felt lost or felt I missed anything. She is the twin sister of Ian who is Dax's best friend and team mate who plays hockey with him in Las Vegas.

Also you should know that this story features Lennox before she becomes a protector and then continues as that series runs concurrent with this book. I have read that series so I understood things that happen after and during. I don't think it really makes a huge difference in reading this story, its just nice to know the timeline. You will also see King Eric, Xander, Sandor and Natalie, Chains. It was great seeing them interact in this story.

Isla was a fascinating character. She is very close with her twin and her mother and grandfather and Dax as well. Her grandfather has been trying to matchmake and to get him to stop she says she is dating Dax.

Dax and her are close friends but a big issue is that she lives in Scotland and him Vegas because he is very into her. So he decides this is the perfect time to explore their feelings when he visits in the summer and attends Ian's wedding.

Isla is a professor who still lives at home and is not happy personally and professionally but she doesn't know how to change things. She is also fearful of change and so her exploring things with Dax is pretty huge for her.

Meanwhile Dax is an excellent hockey player but he is starting to think he wants more and he thinks Isla could be the more and his contract is coming up so he has some really big decisions to make.

I enjoyed this story and I liked both characters. I loved Dax a whole lot. But Isla at times really frustrated me. I felt she didn't realize how precious love is and how a job is just that a job. She had people around her who understood that and tried to convince her of that but she didn't really grasp that. I wondered if maybe thats a UK thing and as I am American, I couldn't  see a lot of her points.

Storyline wise I adored this book because I really loved Dax and I really enjoyed watching her decide what he needed to be happy and what he wanted his future to be. I really admired how he didn't know what he wanted but he was so open to explore what that future would be.
