This story seemed to be geared to fans on the old tv show Gilmore Girls and thats kinda how I pictured January and Wednesday as they walked around their small town of Duck Falls and interacted with the quirky friends around town. The author did a great job of really making me see Dusk Falls in my head and feel the charm of this small town.
January is the mom, she is 37 years old and is divorced from her daughters father. She is a carpenter with her own business. Wednesday is the 15 year old daughter who is very smart and into hacking and website creations etc. They have this awesome relationship of more like best friends than the typical mom/teen relationship.
Things get shaken up when a new guy comes to town and moves in next door. He is Liam and he is 39, single and never been married but dad to Ethan, a 10 year old that he only met three years before. He moves to town as his dad is going blind and he wants to help out more.
He also has an awesome relationship with his son. When Liam and January meet sparks fly and they have the cutest flirtations with words. They have a strong connection but they also really see each other. They feel a relationship between them is too complicated because of the neighbor thing and Liam wants marriage and babies and January is loving that all that is over for her.
This story is very light reading. Its about love, family, parenthood, compromising and what makes a family a family. Its full of cuteness and not much controversy or angyst. These two are at very different points in their life and have to decide if being together is worth giving up the future they imagined or is love worth changing your goals for when you find the other half of you.
