For me this was a very different story than I was expecting and have read before. It was told entirely from Evie's viewpoint and the romance was not the focal point in this story but rather Evie and her moms love was the main story here. Its very much the perfect story for moms and daughters and its a bit heart breaking but also filled with love for moms and their special connection with their daughters.
First I feel that this story should have a warning because it deals with a very serious subject and that is Dementia. This story really does a wonderful job showing how Dementia effects an entire family and not just the one it affects. It also shows how hard it is to take care of someone you love who lives with Dementia. It definitely is a huge tear jerker.
At age 21, Evie's life is pretty awesome until she gets a call that interrupts her dreams. Her mother who is 46 is given the diagnosis of Dementia. She comes home to help her father out and spend time with her mother and this story starts 6 years after. Evie lives with her mother and she is taking care of her and everyone has abandoned her except for her best friend Maizie.
The only free time Evie gets is on Saturdays where she visits with Maizie and thats how she meets the new high school football coach, Butler. Butler becomes her escape, but they fall for each other. But everyone has left Evie and so she has a tough time confessing what her real life is to Butler.
I am very impressed with the writing of this story. The author did a wonderful job combining E's memories with her mother in such a way that it tells the story of E and her mom. It is told entirely from Evie's POV and I really loved it. It is definitely not a light story but it was a riveting story and I loved the ending so much.
