This is book 2 in the series but easily stands alone. Its stars Mia and Jaxson.
The first book THE WRONG BROTHER starred Gabby and Dane. Dane was Gabby's boss and she thought he was dating her best friend. Mia. Mia was her best friend who begged her to see if her boyfriend was a cheater. Gabby went under cover and pretended to be his assistant while trying to see if he would cheat. But Mia was not dating Dane but his cheating brother, Champ. And Gabby was not an assistant but a cop and her partner was Jaxson, who has crushed on Mia for years.
Now this is book 2 in the series and its where we get Mia's story and Jaxson gets his chance with Mia, after crushing on her for 9 years.
Mia had a pretty tragic childhood. Her mother died of Cancer and she had a terrible father who abused her in all kinds of ways. In the end, she ended up killing her father to save Gabby. Jaxson has ALWAYS wanted Mia and in this story he finally gets a chance when they each are tasked with hosting party for Dane and for Gabby. Meanwhile Jaxson knows that Mia is very wishy washy about getting together and so he has to try and convince her to stick around.
This book also introduces some new characters that hopefully we will get to see in future books.
I LOVED the first book but while I enjoyed watching Dane and Gabby ride off in happiness, I had a hard time loving Mia, as she was into Jaxson but also trying to be distant with him too. He was all in and she was really not sure she was ready for everything he wanted.
What I did learn from this book was how childhood trauma can really affect an adult in their twenties in all kinds of relationships. In relation to Mia, it affected her relationship not only with Gabby but at work as well, and in her romantic history as well.
I felt this book was interesting and I enjoyed meeting the characters but the plot was kinda vague. It was Jaxson trying to create a relationship with Mia and Mia trying to decide what she wanted to do, while they planned a party together and she hid so many things from Jaxson and Gabby. Jaxson also hid things from Gabby and from Mia.
Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
