AT FIRST HATE by K.A. Linde

ABOUT THE BOOK

A new stand alone enemies-to-lovers romance from USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde…

Derek Ballentine and I have always been on opposite sides of everything.

I went to a public Savannah high school. He went to a private Catholic school. I went to Duke on scholarship. He went to UNC as a legacy. When we both end up at Harvard for graduate school and we’re finally on a level playing field, I think it’s all going to change.

I was wrong.

The only thing that changed was ending up in his bed.

Now my grandma has passed away, and Derek is the attorney helping the people trying to steal her legacy. I’ll do anything to stop that from happening. Even take on my lifetime enemy.

I hate him at first sight…but I also want him at first hate.

This was a hate to love and second chance story. It looks like there is a previous book in the series which I did not know prior to reading it.

This story is told all in the female lead, Marley's POV, which is usually not the POV I prefer. I tend to like getting dual POV and this story only had one chapter from the male leads POV, Derek Ballantine. I really felt that this story needed more from his POV. I was happy we got that one chapter but I really wanted more from him and his POV of the past and his past.

This book also jumps into the past A LOT. It is told in five parts and starts in high school and goes through college and then after college and thru to the present. A majority of the book is in the past which is not how I like to read books but it seemed to work here for the story.  I enjoyed the present scenes and so those were my favorites.

The story begins after Maddox and Marley;s grandmother dies and leaves them her home. Then the door rings and its Derek, Mars ex sorta who she hates, Derek is her aunt and moms lawyer who are suing to get the house from Marley and her brother. And so starts this story..

This author knows how to write some good angyst and hate to love stories. She always packs a huge punch in her stories and this book was heavy on angyst. I felt like I understood Marley and her issues but Derek was vague for most of the book. I really did not know what to think about his actions.

If you like teen and college drama and angyst then you will enjoy this story. It is heavy on drama and a fast read that I found fascinating and couldn't wait to find out what would happen next,
