In the Beat of the Moment - Heart Beats #2 - by Breanna Lynn

/ABOUT THE BOOK

Love is friendship set on fire… but what do you call it when you fall for your enemy?

Meredith

Most people have never met the real me. No one needs to when I’m their favorite party girl. The one person everyone wants, but the one heart that can’t be tempted.

I’ve worked so hard to establish my footloose facade that even I’m starting to believe it.

So why can’t I stop thinking about Nick Rhodes?

Nick

The smart me would turn and run the moment he laid eyes on Meredith Pryce.

The strong me would walk away from her as easily as I do every other woman.

But the first kiss makes me dumb. The second kiss makes me weak. The third kiss makes me certain…

Being with Meredith for one night won’t do it. Maybe not even two.

But every night after the first is a chance to break each other’s hearts. The only question is which one of us will do it first.

In this story we get to know Meredith, age 22 and Nick, age 30. They do not get along. This is very much a hate at first sight story. But both have best friends in common and so they get thrown together a lot. Then Meredith offers to throw their best friends a wedding and Nick ends up as her co-planner and thats when they start to get to know each other.

Meredith is feeling lonely. Her best friends are married with a baby and she is ready for love but its not finding her. Nick is 30 and he was in love  12 years before until she died and now he just does flings. But after a hot kiss they both can't stop thinking about each other.

For a majority of the book I liked Nick a lot. But at about 60% he becomes this other guy and frankly I HATED him. I would have refused to go away with him and dumped him so fast. He was a bit split personality and a bit abusive with his words. Meredith realises this but she sticks with him and honestly I have no idea why. He apologizes and says he is sorry and she forgives him but I did not know why.  Then he does the worst thing and she still sticks around. I really respected her for staying because she wanted to support her friend and so when she finally leaves I was like FINALLY.

When he finally has this big insight into what a bad guy he has been to her I loved that she blocks him but when he does apologize she forgives him right away. HUH? What?  I did not understand why she forgave him. I would have liked to see him really work for it and be tortured more.

The ending was good but I never saw Nick the same again and what he did to her and said to her I could have never forgiven him. I felt that she forgave him more because she was lonely and wanted love than that she really loved him.
