This is book 2 in the series and it easily stands alone. It stars Everly who we meet in the first book but who was graduating college at the time and in this book she is home to work with her ex football player, Hawk. Its a second chance at love as they were in love in high school but broke up when life got in the way.
Hawk and Everly have been apart for 9 years. She is now a sports psychologist with a new degree and Hawk's team agrees to hire her to work with him for a summer while they are both in Honey Mountain. Hawk is having some issues playing football and he wants her help with helping him enjoy the game. Part of that is about his coach.
Everly has been running away from life, her family and her heart for 9 years. Since she lost her mom and Hawk, she threw herself into her studies and has not been back home much in the intervening years. Losing her mother was very painful and she is still not over it.
For Hawk losing Everly was extremely painful. He never wanted to be apart from her and he still loves her but she hurt him very deeply and he is unsure about letting the pain go and opening his heart to her again.
Hawk and Everly start a professional relationship as she helps him with his sports related issues. I loved how equal they both are as they get to know each other 9 years later. They both have some really big issues they need to face and I liked that they form a friendship as they face the things that have kept them apart and hurt them in the past.
This is primarily a story about crossroads, facing your fears and pain and moving on. It is also a book about love for family, forever and friendship. The author did a great job showing us how losing her mother at such a young age impacted Everly and the choices she has made in the intervening years.
It was an awesome story. The only part I did not like was scenes with Darria who is an ex of Hawk. While they don't have romantic scenes they are close friends and they do text and she even visits. My heart hurt for Everly having to confront Hawk's past while on the mountain.
I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
