ROUGHING THE KICKER by Emily Silver

ABOUT THE BOOK

Jackson Fields. Denver’s star kicker. Best friend since 9th grade. And love of my life since he moved in next door.

But what happens when I move in with him?

When an injury sidelines him, I step up.
Living with him will be easy. I can hide my feelings long enough to take care
of him. I’ve done it for 13 years. A few weeks will be a piece of cake.

Except he depends on me for everything.
Every touch, every move he makes has butterflies swarming my stomach. I can’t
fall for him. Because he’s my friend. And he doesn’t see me as anything else.

But when his situation changes, he starts
to see me in a new light. Am I willing to risk everything to see if we’ll be
good together? Or will we always be destined to be just friends?

Jackson and Tinley were neighbors and best friends growing up. In 9th grade she kissed him but he thought he kissed Rachel who has been his girlfriend from 9th grade to now, for 13 years. Meanwhile Tinley has loved and lusted for him through all those years and to stay in his life never told him how she feels and stayed friends with him.

The whole awful girlfriend and the 13 years  and since 9th grade were hard for me to buy and believe. Its a long time to be in a relationship with someone and its also a long time to torture Tenley with. Rachel never liked Tenley and treated her horribly, yet Jackson stayed with her. She also treated him awful too and he also stayed. This plot element was really hard for me to understand. A few years I would have understood but 13 years? I just had a hard time with that kind of time.

As the book opens Jackson is hurt and Rachel refuses to help him and so Tenley decides to help him out. This opens Jackson's eyes and he starts to see Tenley and how he feels about her and how she feels about him. This was my favorite part of the story. These two were just magic together and the scenes were just awesome and I found their relationship so beautiful and caring. Thats what I really loved about this book.

If you love second chance romances and besties falling hard for each other with a sports angle then you will love this story. It really gave me all the feels and I did love the characters and the story. I did not understand staying with a horrible girlfriend for 13 years and Tenley sticking around for those years but it was a minor part of the story and I loved everything else about Tenley and Jackson and their relationship.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
