Don’t Kiss the Bride by Carian Cole is now live!
ABOUT THE BOOK
I guess you could say I was a damsel in distress, and he was my knight in shining armor.
But more accurately, I was a girl with a lot of bad luck, and he was a guy with a lot of muscles and tattoos.
Jude “Lucky” Lucketti wasn’t just a sexy, brooding construction worker. He was my own personal hero who seemed to be in all the right places at the right times. Like when my car broke down and I needed a ride home, and when I face planted on the sidewalk right in front of him and had to be taken to the emergency room.
Those weren’t exactly my best moments, but they were his.
We became friends, and it didn’t matter that he was sixteen years older than me. We had a lot in common—like our love of old rock music and vintage fast cars, and our aversion to relationships.
When he approached me with a crazy idea to help me out, I couldn’t say no.
The arrangement was supposed to be temporary. A marriage on paper and nothing else.
It should’ve been easy, but it wasn’t.
Because here I am, eighteen years-old, still in high school, and married to a man I was never supposed to fall in love with.
We had just one rule—no kissing the bride.
But we broke that rule, and it sealed our fate forever.

I have never read a book by this author before and this book certainly blew me a way. First I should warn you this is not light reading at all. Its a heavy story, told extremely well with some hot scenes and awesome characters. The book also deals with some very serious issues in a very awesome way and I really learned a lot in this story.
The heroine in this story has a number of serious health issues, one is an eating disorder called AFRID. It is a disorder that really speaks to me because my 8 year old daughter has suffered from this for years. Its something that does not only affect the one afflicted but the entire family as we have to make adjustments for it. I loved how Jude/Lucky in this story also helps the heroine deal with this issue as well.
Sparkles or Skyler has had an extremely hard life at age 18 and in some ways she also is very blessed. One of those blessings is she has an amazing car her grandfather left her and also she has a wonderful best friend, Megan who is always there for her, and she has a wonderful job she loves. But her home life is beyond awful. Her father left her years ago when he tried to save himself and she is stuck living in one room in horrible conditions with her cat. Added to that she has health issues but no health insurance, her situation gets very dire.
Lucky/Jude is 32 and meets her while he works construction near her school and he ends up saving her in more ways than one. He has also had a sad life. His father is dead, his sister is missing and his mother is living her life in Paris. The only people in his life are his aunt and uncle and his dog. He meets Skyler and he wants to save her in a way that he was never able to save his sister. With her health issues, the only way to help Sky is by marrying her.
And so starts an amazing relationship with two individuals who are lonely and depressed and who find something thats pretty wonderful as they form a friendship that allows them to help and be there for each other. They become a family and it was beautiful to see this relationship from both characters POV.
Sky is 18 and Jude is 32 so its a very forbidden type of relationship. But I never felt like Sky was a teenager. She has been taking care of herself for years and is mature and extremely responsible. She knows she is unhealthy and needs help but she is also trapped by her situation. In some ways I felt she was the mature one and Jude needed to grow up a little.
The author did an amazing job with this story and at times I wanted to cry and other times I wanted to cheer for Sky. I absolutely adored her. At times Jude really frustrated me because he was wishy washy about Skyler. But in the end he really comes thru for her.
