ABOUT THE AUTHORS
This is Elizabeth Bishop's/Elle story and it starts three years before the present so we get to see her before she actually graduates as a Vet and through her internship and relationship from the beginning with her fellow doctor and Vet Connor Wallen.
I absolutely adored this story and one big factor was throughout this story even when Connor and Elle are not together, they crush on each other and never bring anyone else into their lives romantically. I really liked that about this story.
Connor and Elle start working together while she is in school to learn to be an animal doctor. It is right at the time that Connor is divorcing his wife, and she has taken his young daughter to live 4 hours away. He is fighting for custody and to keep her in his life. And Elle is attending classes 3 hours away from home but coming home for a few days a week to work alongside Connor as his intern and then his part time employee. They both are attracted but they each have very busy lives and have no time for romance or attraction. Connor fights his feelings so hard that Elle starts to think he is a big grump and that he kinda hates her.
Connor is a huge jerk to her but I still really liked him because he actually is this huge sweetheart inside. He adores his daughter and he misses her so much that it makes him grumpy and when she is around, he wants to spend every minute with her. This really made me love him so much because it was such a wonderful aspect of how caring a man he was.
Elle, has crushed on him a long time and she is at first busy with school and then graduating and getting her license. I loved how she really looked up to Connor and how much she respected him, even if he was very grumpy with her.
I also loved how the authors just highlighted time by showing us the important snippets over the three years as these two worked together and really got to know each other without romance getting in the way.
The first 50% of the book tells the story from the beginning and covers the three years they work together until their story really starts to pick up after she graduates. I loved when they started to open up to each other and how effortless their relationship was because they really know each other so well because of those years. They also realize how special what they have is and I loved watching them get romantic with each other and support each other.
It very much reminded me of Elle's parents relationship and theirs was my favorite in the Bishop family series and so it was fun seeing Elle and Connors relationship as they started to face their true feelings for each other. This was a wonderful story and I absolutely adored every moment of it. And I cannot wait for the next story in the series.
