PLAY FAKE by Maggie Rawdon (Waylon and Mackenzie)

ABOUT THE BOOK

She might not like me, but she wants me.

I'm used to being worshipped like a football god.

Everyone on campus loves me, except her.

Which is why when her ex breaks her heart and her friends plot revenge, I volunteer to be her fake boyfriend.

She hates the plan, almost as much as she hates me. We can barely speak without tearing each other to shreds.

But sometimes when we fight, she looks at me like she might not hate all of me.

Any advantage on the field is a good one, right?

But then she asks me for a favor I don’t know if I can deliver on.

And I make a confession that could have this whole game falling apart

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Meet Maggie Rawdon:

Maggie loves books, travel and wandering through museums. She lives in the Midwest where you can find her writing on her laptop with her two pups at her side, in between binge watching epic historical and fantasy dramas and cheering for her favorite American (and European) football teams on the weekends. She loves writing dirty athletes and smart women and has a soft spot for writing characters who banter instead of flirt.

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a brand-new author and color me impressed that it's her debut. For me this was a mixed review as there were things I loved and things I didn't. But I really enjoyed the authors writing style and I could not put this book down.

This is a hate to love romance at least on Mac's side, and insta love/lust from Waylon's side. These two know each other thru their friend group. They are in college, and he is a football player with lots of female fans who pretty much throw themselves at him.

He is totally into Mac from the first time he meets her. She is not available then and so when girls throw themselves at him he takes advantage of that and I was totally good with that.

However when she is finally single, he wants her very badly and claims he doesn't have sex with anyone else then but what he does do is have them sit on his lap, he kisses them very hotly and they flirt and offer him lots of action. All this right infront of Mac, and not just once, over and over again. And the girls are shared so one night its him and the next a friend of his, and so on. It was a huge turnoff for me even if he doesn't ever have sex with them, seeing this in front of Mac over and over again , made me very uncomfortable reading this.

But aside from that he never gives up on Mac. He wants her badly and he is there for her no matter what. I will say he has extremely bad judgement and he and Mac are terrible at communication, but he wants her badly and pretty much will do anything for her because is into her that much and well that was what I loved about this book.

To some degree I felt the characters were very immature. They ran away a lot from each other and used jealousy a lot and played lots of games with each other. At times it felt very high school and not seniors in college.

That said I could not stop reading this book. I really could not wait to find out what they did next. The author did a great job creating characters that frustrated me but also that I really liked and I wanted to see them get their happily ever after.
