ONE LAST SHOT by Julia Connors (Petra and Alex/Sasha)

ABOUT THE BOOK

Aleksandr Ivanov was my person. We helped each other through the worst of our childhoods. I thought we were meant for each other; then he ghosted me.

That’s when I learned that the only person I can count on is me.

Fourteen years later, the NHL superstar reappears in my life with an outrageous request: pretend to be his wife and help him adopt his orphaned niece, Stella. The twist? Apparently we’ve been married since I was sixteen.

I can’t commit to the relationship he’s asking for, but when I accidentally screw up his childcare arrangement before he leaves for the Stanley Cup playoffs, I end up as Stella's nanny for a couple weeks.

I shouldn’t put my life on hold to help him. I shouldn’t fall hard for his precocious niece. And I definitely shouldn’t let him into my bed, or more importantly, into my heart. Because if I do those things, I might start wanting things I can’t have.

There is no happy ending for us: I’ve got a company to run, and a contract to start filming a television show in Los Angeles. He can’t leave New York, and staying with Aleksandr would mean giving up everything I’ve worked so hard for.

Most importantly, I can’t put my very fragile heart right back into the hands of the one person who already destroyed it.

Meet Julia Connors

Julia Connors grew up on the warm and sunny West Coast, but her first decision as an adult was to trade her flip-flops for snow boots and move to Boston.

She’s been enjoying everything that New England has to offer for over two decades, and now that she’s acclimated to the snowy winters and finally found all the places to get good sushi and tacos, she has zero regrets.

You can usually find her in front of her computer, but when she stops writing she’s most likely to be found outdoors, preferably with a pair of skis or snowshoes strapped to her feet in winter, or on a paddleboard in the summer.

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I loved this story so much. Honestly, I adored every single page in this book. There is a big message in this story about girl/woman empowerment and learning how to stand up for yourself and be heard and I adored it so much.

This is book 3 in a series about best friends involved in snow sports who find love. This is Petra's story and it's a standalone, secret marriage, second chance romance and features a really cute six-year-old and a custody fight.

Petra's surprise husband is a hockey player, Sasha or Alex, who lives in NYC and who is guardian of his orphaned niece, Stella. The two were besties when they were young but at age 19 and her 16, he broke her heart, and she has not heard from him until 14 years later when he needs her help.

Petra was my hero. I loved her so much. The things she taught Stella about standing up for herself and her life lessons were so awesome, and I loved her so much. I loved that she defends and supports Stella so much even if it's from Alex.

In this story Alex has some really big secrets about things Petra does not know and I am not spoiling any of that. Alex was a wonderful character too, but he is holding onto some knowledge that hurts him to keep from Petra. I loved how much he cared for Petra and Stella as well and he had some tough choices to make.

This story starts a bit slowly as the plot builds and we start to see how much Alex cares about Petra and how wonderful Petra is for both Alex and Stella.
